    Report on-board Mistress

Another absolutely belting day today here on ‪Mistress‬ ,

We started on the ground this morning and it was non stop until the tide eased and the fishing went off the boil.
So I had a bit of an idea that a move up the coast would pay dividends for us,and it did! not much showing on the ground but one of the wrecks on my plotter threw us some non stop action, the fish smashing the ‪shads‬ as soon as they hit the bottom with the rods bending into fish, drift after drift.

The best angler onboard today retained 18 cod and threw an amazing 20 back, bearing in mind most of the fish returned were well in size. All the anglers threw lots of in size fish back. everyone was over the moon again today.

Also a first - one of the lads landed a giant cock crab on a shad hooked in its claw joint!

So if you fancy a trip with me on Mistress, give me a call or drop me a message on my FB page Mistress Sea Angling Charters,

We have space tomorrow if anyones interested, its £50 per person for 10 hours fishing.

    Tight Lines - Rich

  • 20/05/2015 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

20 May 2015 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

May has been an excellent month so far with much more settled weather and a chance to get offshore. On the reefs bream have shown up in increasing numbers and size. With the bream are a few nice smoothies both common and starry into double figures. We are also picking up undulate and thornback rays which certainly put a bend into a bream rod.
Offshore there have been excellent numbers of cod – perhaps this will be another year link the “brittle star” year of 2008. Most have been in the 4-7lb range but there are enough double figure fish to keep life interesting. Best so far was our April fish of the month a 21lber which fell to Joe Noke. The cod are voracious feeders and don’t give the Pollack a chance to get to the lures leading to cod only wreck trips! Colin for Portsmouth hooked up what he thought was the wreck while drifting with a mackerel flapper near slack. It however turned out to be a 32lb ling which is a new boat record. Colin Low is now known as Coling to his mates!
We have now completed our first Alderney trips of the year. As well as the excellent wrecking on the trip over and back the fishing for flatfish was superb with good numbers of turbot. Although the size was generally 3-7lb there were enough 10lb fish to keep interest up with a good number of smaller fish being returned to fight another day. As well as the turbot we had some nice brill to 5lb. What promised to be a monster turbot turned out to be a large and very energetic blonde ray.
Silver Spray has been out of the water for a major refit which has included two new Iveco Neef 420Hp engines giving a top speed of 29 knots and a 2 knot increase in cruising speed while being much quieter than our previous Cats. We have also increased fishing space by a third by adding walk around rails on the foredeck. The livebait system has been increased to the same capacity as Silver Spray ll and we have invested in more large Iceytek coolboxes to keep fish fresh. To top things off the navigation electronics have been updated with the latest Raymarine digital displays and finally the galley has been refitted. Quite a project which was completed in 3 weeks and which we hope our anglers will enjoy during the summer.

21 May 2015 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

    Hi Guys,
well we had a lovely day today, weather was fantastic, fishing was very good, plenty of Skate caught, Smoothound, and LSD's....
We did pop offshore for the first of the flood to see if we could connect with any Bass, but we didn't get any, didn't really have the right bait, no king rag, all we had was Hermit Crab, and squid, but that only threw up Roker and Hounds...
But we moved back inshore and carried on getting Skate.
    Catch up soon guys..
    Tight lines............!!

  • 05/2015 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    May 2015 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Spot On has completed just 2 channel island trips so far this year, but I am pleased to say with great results.
Some prime turbot and Brill have been coming on board from the various banks around Guernsey, the biggest turbot going 11lb 6oz and the biggest brill hitting the net was 6lb 8oz.
I tried a favourite bream mark of mine to see if there were any resident bream around and although not many we did have a few, some nice black bream and a rare couches bream, along with gurnards, garfish, wrasse and doggies.

The wrecking also is still in full swing with Spot On again finding a another wreck loaded with Ling and with 8 rods and 8 ling on most drifts we soon had enough and moved on.
Plenty of small cod around and some nice summer Pollock make up the other species landed on recent wrecking trips.

A nice surprise was yet another novice angler on his first ever boat trip and using a hire rod hooked a beauty of a Bass on a rhubarb and custard 4" sidewinder hitting the scales at 13lb 8oz, not bad for the first bass of 2015.

I have not had any trips to the skerries recently, but I have a couple of trips coming up, so I will report again very soon.

The bookings have gone mad and I have opened my diary for 2016 as I now have a 2016 tide table

Remember there is only one premier charter boat in Brixham and she is the only Catamaran and I see still the only one who keeps up to date with catch photos and reports, even know I always seem to be at sea.

If you want a trip please see spot-on-charters.co.uk or call 07878668662.

June again sees Spot On booked every day and more Guernsey trips so I will keep you posted when I am next to the computer again.

Although we have yet again had some awesome fish this month, I just had to put a picture of
Lucas with his 13lb 8oz Bass, well done that man.

SPOT ON IS ALSO SPONSORED BY SIDEWINDER LURES SO NOW THE PREMIER CHARTER BOAT ALSO HAVE THE PREMIER LURES TO MATCH AND WITH NEW RANGES BEING TRIED AND TESTED ON BOARD PLEASE ASK FOR DETAILS.

  • 17/05/2015 Fishing Report by Rob Thompson on Phosphorescent 'WH1' (Lymington, Hampshire)

17 May 2015 by Rob Thompson

    Report on-board Phosphorescent 'WH1'

I arrived back from a month at sea doing the day job on Wednesday 13th May and headed straight to Phosphorescent to get her sorted for a weekend on the water. Although we have done some great trips between Xmas and now it is this month that I class as the start of our season. Bream and Bass are the main targets this month with Bass taking precedence over the coming weeks and a lot of lure fishing going on too. My Sandeel tank is almost set up and will be getting it's first residents shortly....off up there today to finish putting it together and then it's the struggle with 500 litres of fresh sea water to fill it up!!!

Anyway on to the fishing. As I said in my last report the Bream are now showing in good numbers along the coast and X'church Ledge produced some cracking fish at the weekend. Lots of fish over 2lb with some beasts in the 4-5lb Bracket too. Sunday saw us catch 45 fish in a mad hour and half when after a slow start the fish came on with gusto. The lads had enough fish for the freezer and were keen to have a go for a bass too. We tried unsuccessfully for mackerel but had our trusty FIIISH Black Minnows and a couple of live pout in a bucket from the mornings breaming. Conditions on the Bridge were far from ideal with a big sea due to the full ebbing tide and about 20kts of SW wind over the top if it. A variety of methods were deployed and it was Rod who came up trumps landing a couple of lovely fish...one on a Pouting the other and largest on the Black Minnow. Can't wait to get back out there this week after the weather settles a bit. There are plenty of Stingray, Smoothound, Bass and Bream along the Solent foreshore right now so if you are interested in an evenings super light tackle madness catching these species - Feel free to give me a call. All best, Rob - 07725 563562.

  • 19/05/2015 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

19 May 2015 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

The terrible may weather gave us another small window yesterday here at Whitby it was a bit of sloppy start with the fresh North Westerly, but we made the best of the day.

Other boats reported good fishing on the 5 mile recently, so thats where we started! we barely moved all day taking a steady picking, the fishing really hotted up as the tide eased and turned.

The lads were smashing the fish out for fun on shads . Sidewinder Sandeels, Rattlebacks and Minnows all taking the biggest bags. As always the conservation effort was great with plenty of fish returned, the best anglers landing the best part of 30 fish apiece

We finished up on par with one our best days so far this year the lads all beaming.
With all the fish we had to sort out, we made an early finish and got back to port around 3:30pm. Another absolutely top day!

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well off early tomorrow, weather looking good for the next new few days..!!!
The plan is to pick up Hermit Crab pot we put out on Sunday, then depending what is or isn't in it will depend on what we do for the day.
I have had a few messages from friends of "Terry Batt Fishing" unknown personally, but now I have made their acquaintance by email, and I find a great comfort in what they had to say to me, so thank you guys, I really appreciate you contacting me with levels of support of that of old friends..!!! .
But looking at reports from other web-sites it sounds like the Hounds are starting to show up all over the place..!!.
I will let you know after tomorrows trip what we did, and what was the target species....
    Tight lines...!!!!
