Fishing Report by LESTER BAKER

Report on-board Seawatch1
Hi guys,I'm sure that most of you reading this report already know that the Thames Estuary has been producing some fantastic spring fishing over the last few weeks.Large numbers of plump codling to five pounds are still close inshore in the area providing great sport, best bait still seems to be lug and squid cocktails.A few days of warmer weather will soon warm the water and these fish will be leaving the area,so if you want to catch a few more make your trip sooner rather than later.Thornbacks are moving on to the grounds in greater numbers now,one angler ignored the codling and targeted the rays with fish baits on one rod and caught nine rays to double figures. We had our first bass of the season on Seawatch two weeks ago and I have heard of a few just south of us,so they are coming, all in all a good time to be fishing the Thames Estuary.

Report on-board Vanishing Point-2
hi everyone, the weekend went well, with a shed-load of prime Codling boated..!!

It has to be said that most anglers lost a lot of fish until they got the hang of the bites....! but everyone on the boat caught more than enough fish.
Well I noticed the water temp was up again yesterday, so these little darlings will be getting ready to leave us,
So.. if you are going to get a last crack at them, you had better do it soon!!. weather it is with us on Vanishing Point-2... or, one of the other fine professional charter boats that operate with in the Blackwater area from either my port Bradwell, or West Mersea, or Brightlingsea, all of which can put you over the fish in a short time.
Ok guys we are looking for 1 or 2 people for tomorrows trip so if you fancy it just call and book you place.
Tight lines............... !!!

Fishing Report by G Derham

Report on-board Eastern Promise 2
Fourth time lucky!!! Having had the last 3 trips cancelled due to gales. This time we had a forecast of variable 3, When we arrived at West Mersea the water was flat calm and our hopes were high as Derek had said that the cod were still about so after our usual brew and a bacon sarnie in the car park we boarded Eastern Promise just before 07.30 and within a few minutes we were cruising at over 20 knots. Eastern Promise is possibly the fastest angling charter boat in the uk with a top speed of over 40 knots due to the hysucat foils under the boat I have been on this boat at 33 knots and that is shifting for a big boat, anyway back to the fishing. It wasn’t long before we arrived at the mark but then Derek started going round and round and up and down looking for something, he found it whatever it was and dropped the anchor then we dropped our Baits. Derek came out of the wheelhouse and asked who wants a cuppa well you know the answer to that one, before he made the tea I had the first fish a cod of about 4.5 pounds so I’ve got the pound coins to come. That fish was followed by several others around the boat I had 4 cod over 4 pounds in the first half hour. The fish just kept coming and coming there was more cod of 5lb+ several Big Roker good sized Whiting and a couple of dogs (I know but it does mean summer is on its way). So I’ve got the pound now were fishing for the fiver lots more cod came the average weight was over 3.5lb. Then Ron hooked into a Cod of 10lb 7oz a cracking fish, this fish was the biggest of the day and won the fivers. The day ended up with 6 good sized roker kept (females & small males returned) Whiting,Dogs, and 77 Cod 77 x 3.5 equals 269.5 lbs. I don’t always agree with reporting big catches as I know the Foreign trawlers read these pages. I have kept quiet about other Fantastic days we have had on this boat for that reason, so it’s about time I made another report. Thanks Derek for a cracking day, weather permitting we well be back next month and the one after that and after that and so on.

APRIL 2015

Brian Martin and crew joined Flamer IV for their first flatty trip of the year. How ever the first fish to come aboard was a superb 18Ib Spurdog caught by Mick Jeffery whilst drifting for Turbot. The big Spur is a Personal Best for Mick. The crew also caught their target species Plaice and Turbot during the day.Tony Jenkins caught the biggest Plaice weighing 4Ib (pictured). Andy Ellis a Carp angler at heart did well catching Plaice and a 5Ib Turbot. To the crews credit they returned all eight of the Turbot they caught back to the sea to grow bigger.
In April you can expect to see catches of Turbot and Brill on the Famous Shambles Bank and now is the time for that BIG TURBOT. Plaice will feature on the mussell beds and although they are a bit thin at this time of the year there is still a good chance of 5Ib plus fish.
The Reefs and Banks will produce Blonde and Undulate Rays along with Spurdogs,Bull Huss,Smooth Hounds, Congers etc and may be some Black Bream . The Wrecks should be good for Pollack, Ling and a Cod or two..

Well it wasn't a bad Easter weekend, and if you worked the fishing trips, timed with the tides so you had wind and tide together, even a 30 mph blow was no problem at all...!!

On Saturday, we had a whole bunch of our regular individuals from years gone by reunited, it was marvellous it was like we had never been away, the banter was flying (mostly at my expense) and the boys getting ready for another good fishing day with me and my wife Nicola.
So..... once on the fishing mark, which even against the hard run of the tide took just 45 minutes to reach, and all hooks baited, they were of..!!! within a couple of minutes the first of many fish swung over the gunnals, the landing net didn't stop all day, first I had the net then Nicola was shouting for the net, and so this went on all day...!!!! even over the slack water period, the Codling stopped, only to be replaced the the onslaught of Thorn-back Ray's, then once the tide turned to run again on ebb, the Codling were back...!!!!!! phew..!!! it was bloody hard work, but that is our job, eventually the guys just purely ran out of bait.
What a day, with all fish that were kept (we didn't keep them all) gutted and bagged, Vanishing Point-2 returned to her berth in Bradwell and after a good clean down, wheelhouse vacuumed, the boat was made ready for the next day..
These fish wont be here for much longer if the weather forecast is to be believed, with the weather predicted for temperatures to rise to around 70 degrees by the end of the week, this could spark the retreat of the Cod to leave...... that may not be a bad thing!! as like all things in life, everything needs to be done in moderation, and that includes giving the fish a rest, and moving onto other species.... the Codling have been hit hard over the last few months, so a rest is overdue in my opinion, and we will see the hopefully later this year with a few more pounds packed on over the summer period.!!
If you want to experience this outstanding Vessel .... Vanishing Point-2 you need to book your space, we have had many comments from so many people, like on Saturday..! this angler said to me,
" you know what skip, I have been charter fishing for over 40 years, and I have never seen anything like this boat, it is just mind blowing....!!!!!"
Well Nicola and I thank you for you kind words, and feel the £700,000.00 price tag on VP-2 was well worth it.!!
Call 0768 30 66 46 soon and join the winning team...!!
FACT: over 10 years the Blackwater challenge trophy has been fought for by around 5 of the best charter boats from our area, and Me and Nicola have won it 8 times, with all the prize money going to charity
See you all soon Guys n Gals...... Tight lines..!!!!!!!!
