  • 04/2015 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Apr 2015 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

The wind finally gave us a break for the first time in April 2015 so Spot On was full steam ahead out to the mid channel wrecks to continue where we left off in March.

The fishing again was superb with some great sized Pollock coming to the net and when the tide eased we put on a few baits to try for some Ling, we managed a fair few ling in a short period but unfortunately there were only a few over the 20lb mark to get a photo as I would be there all day if I photographed everything!

Most of the Pollock and Ling have now spawned which is great news for the future stocks but bad news if your after that 20lb'er for another year, although we have been having some great scraps from the male fish of 9/12lb mark.

April will see the wrecking continue and see a few more Cod in the catches as the month goes on.
It is also the time Spot On heads up to the shambles for a 3 day Weymouth trip in search of Turbot, Brill and Plaice.
The end of April is also Spot On's first Guernsey trip of the year which I am already looking forward to.

The skerries is fishing well for the start of the season and we are heading there Friday 10th April for Spot On's first trip to the famous banks.

Dates are filling very fast I have already been asked for 2016 dates! so book early or grab a last minute space and come and try the south wests premier charter boat with catches others simply dream of! and of course a fun, enjoyable day on board goes without saying.

Pictured is the biggest Ling to date for April which was caught by Steve Ford and a nice specimen of 26lb 10oz.

Remember there is only one catamaran in Brixham and there is only one Spot On! the only boat with up to date catches, reports, and photos as seeing is believing.

Local tackle shop Spot On fishing in Preston / Paignton is also getting even more stocked by the day and is continuing to grow with great local support and with the deals on the great tackle we use on board its hard to see it will do anything else.
Great fresh and frozen bait and well worth a visit, much more stock than others for wrecking and sea fishing.

    Report on-board Upholder

Thursday the 2nd of April was the first trip for 2015,Chris Mullarky caught the first fish a clean Codling about two and a half to three pounds (see Photo ). The fish was caught on an orange sidewinder on a flowing trace.
Ian Ragg caught 6 Codlings and Hilton Cox caught the biggest fish of the day a 41/2 to 5lb Codling on cooked prawns. In total there were approximately 20 Codlings between 2lb to 3lb average of which there were about 12 fish kept. Sea conditions were light North westerly winds with up to 2 meters of ground swell at times.
Although the fish were small at least we did not blank on the first trip.

    Saturday 4th April
The fishing was much the same as Thursday with the best fish being a 4lb 12oz Codling caught on Mackerel strip.

    Report on-board Phosphorescent 'WH1'

We have just been on a two day / overnight trip to sunny Weymouth. It's this time of the year that the famous Shambles Bank starts to throw up some lovely Turbot and the nearby Mussel beds fish for Plaice, there are also plenty of other species to catch too. 6 of us travelled and had a great night in the Sailors Return and local Curry House meeting up with plenty of other skippers and anglers alike. Everyone landed there target species with a couple PB fish for the guys too. Can't wait to go back.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

    April 2015
Spring Plaice fishing from Poole is the best it has been for many years and is well worth a day afloat enjoying this relaxing method of fishing, the offshore wrecks are producing good numbers of Pollack with a few Cod being caught as well, with the arrival of the Black Bream the season has certainly started well.Turbot trips are always a favourite and the catch numbers are starting to improve along with the quality

  • 04/2015 Fishing Report by Colin Penny on Flamer IV (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Apr 2015 by Colin Penny

    Report on-board Flamer IV

    APRIL 2015
The fishing on the Wrecks still continues to be very good, producing some excellent Ling and Pollack catches. Also the first Cod are starting to show.On a recent trip John Billett broke his Personal Best Ling record three times which finished with a 20Ib 15oz Ling as his best PB, John was using a Norwegian Herring Lure.Colin Gardiner age 70 something landed three Ling weighing 14Ib 8oz,16Ib 8oz and 18Ib 12oz in successive drops and understandably needed a little rest after pulling up that lot.Lady angler Nicky Trigg did well landing plenty of Polllack up to 12Ib and a 13Ib 8oz LIng,she also caught the first Cod of the year to be caught on Flamer IV during a wrecking trip. Trevor Lockyer had the best Ling of the day a 23 pounder (pictured).
Lures - Bubble Gum Pink Red Gills are out fishing any other lures for the Pollack and Ling are also being caught on them.

In April you can expect to see catches of Turbot and Brill on the Famous Shambles Bank and now is the time for that BIG TURBOT. Plaice will feature on the mussell beds and although they are a bit thin at this time of the year there is still a good chance of 5Ib plus fish.
The Reefs and Banks will produce Blonde and Undulate Rays along with Spurdogs,Bull Huss,Smooth Hounds, Congers etc and may be some Black Bream . The Wrecks should be good for Pollack, Ling and a Cod or two..

  • 05/04/2015 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

5 Apr 2015 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Spring is finally upon us despite the cold easterly wind persisting. Herring shoals are arriving along with Skate and Bass. The Codling are starting to thin out as they move offshore. Once the weather settles the fishing should improve with the shore crab peel.
The fishing to date has been hit and miss, one day plenty to catch the next being quiet. This weekend we have found plenty of fish with Lee's group from Essex landing Skate to just under 9lb along with a mixed bag of doggies and Whiting.
The recently introduced protection for Bass and Skate will hopefully improve fish stocks giving us good fishing throughout the summer so dust off the rod's and let's go fishing!

    Report on-board Flamer IV

    APRIL 2015
Simon Quickfall and crew on the annual trip aboard Flamer IV did Reef fishing at anchor and caught Thornback Ray,Starry Smooth Hounds and Dogfish. One of the crew lost a big Conger because some one did not tie his hooks on properly" oh dear".Also the group did some drifts over two inshore wrecks and caught several Pollack on mainly jelly worms.Star of the show was undoubtedly Sian who caught several good fish including the biggest a 10Ib 12oz Thornback Ray (pictured) and won the trophy.Simon how ever landed the biggest Pollack.

In April you can expect to see catches of Turbot and Brill on the Famous Shambles Bank and now is the time for that BIG TURBOT. Plaice will feature on the mussell beds and although they are a bit thin at this time of the year there is still a good chance of 5Ib plus fish.
