  • 02/2015 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Feb 2015 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Spot On was out wrecking again in search of Big winter Pollock on Sunday 15th February, the winds were due to ease as the day went on so we headed out to the mid channel wrecks looking for monsters of the deep.

We were greeted straight away with many fish hitting the net and the size of the fish were a healthy 7/10lb mark and all were in great clean condition.

After a few more drifts I asked the guys if they wanted to look for some bigger specimens, the lads said yes they had plenty for the table so we headed out for some larger specimens and we were not disappointed. The fish started coming in again fast and furious with some great hard runs from these sporting fish and many were dropped off due to the drags being set to high.

We did however manage some good sized specimens with the biggest going 18lb 6oz for regular angler Barry.
Barry was on fire all day and could not put a foot wrong but when his friend next to him pulled in a nice Ling on the lure of 23lb 8oz Barry was beaten for the biggest fish.

Top lures consisted of AWOL blacks, AWOL rhubarb and custard and the sidewinder rattleback's.

As forecast, the wind dropped and we had a nice steady 16 knots steam home filleting as we went with only a few fish left to do when we arrived back in Brixham.

A big thank you for to the lads for making it a fun trip as always and thanks for continuing to support Myself on board Spot On and enjoying the great fishing that Brixham has to offer.

Brixham's and the south wests premier charter boat with great all year round catches that are unrivalled by any other charter boat in Brixham.

  • 03/2015 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Mar 2015 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

February was another busy month aboard the ‘Galloper’. Unfortunately we have lost a couple of trips the last week or so which is unusual for us. Thankfully the weather in the early part of the month more than made up for it with some cracking days giving us a glimpse of early spring. the effect of the cold weather from last month has been lower numbers of thornbacks than we have seen at this time over the last few years. Although the slight rise in temperature has already got them moving again and I’m sure they will be back on track in the next few weeks. With the better weather we were able to push a little further than usual at this time of year and found a nice stamp of fish on our general trips. The average numbers were 20-40 codling a trip with several in the 3-4lbs range. There were a few whiting and the odd ray thrown in to make up the numbers. We did manage one offshore trip in search of some better cod. The cold weather had even had an effect here which resulted in far fewer dogfish than is normally the case. This was by no means a bad thing meaning our baits were left alone until something decent found them. We didn’t set the world on fire but found some nice fish. Arthur had the biggest ray of around 12lbs and Wayne had the biggest cod at 9.15lbs. to be honest the had the lions share of the days catch between them. As I mentioned the dogfish were thin on the ground with a dozen of them thrown in. I half expected to see a spurdog but we didn’t get any to the boat that day. Hopefully they will show on our next venture off there.
Over the coming weeks we should see the numbers of roker pick up as the temperature rises and these will undoubtedly be joined by the dogfish. The codling should be on the feed too before they move off next month. On our last trip they seemed to be feeding harder, with far more fish deep hooked. I update my site very regularly so for more information, available dates and reports please visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk or call 07956411528

  • 28/02/2015 Fishing Report by Paul Kilpatrick on Sea Otter 2 (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

28 Feb 2015 by Paul Kilpatrick

    Report on-board Sea Otter 2

Off uptiding saturday a small tide really more of a wrecking tide but the fishing was still good had a couple of lads up from norfolk they had a belter of a day on the cod the best for them lads was over 9lb they took home around 30 and all the other lads had a nice few cod so a nice day a lot more to come at the backend of this week as the tides lift the fishing should explode .

Been a cracking winter so far on the cod here at whitby the lads have some belting fishing the wrecking should kick off big style soon but if its anything to by last winter the uptding went right into april with some great fishing if you fancy a day the weather should let us go off again from thursday .

A nice fish for one of norfolk lads.
