Report on-board Galloper
After a belting start to January things proceeded to slow a little as we got into the month. The cause of this a mixture of the cold weather and sprats distracting the cod from out baits. We were hampered by weather occasionally but on the whole it was a good January. When we have got out there has still been some good fishing to be had. even though bites may be a little slower and finicky as the fish are already stuffed with sprat we have seen some reasonable numbers. Several days have seen 20-35 codling coming out along with a few roker too. the last few years January and February have produced some decent roker and whiting. This year has proved to be much the same with some decent fish coming out. Our biggest whiting was just shy of 2lbs for luke on his first trip. One of our regulars Barry Woods had a stonking roker of 18.12lbs which is a new PB for him and the ‘Galloper’. The big fish was a female so as with all females was returned after a few pictures. Barry had a good day with another roker and quite a few codling too. the sprats should move on anytime now which should help our catches of cod. The good thing is the fish pile on the weight while theyre eating them so when they go the stamp should be lovely. If and when things start to warm up we should see a few more roker getting about and it would be nice to see a few more fish like Barry’s grace the deck.

Report on-board Girl Mandy
Hi all well the silly season has started early this year this is again not a report as such but a number that needs circulating around so that nobody else gets caught, the number that needs to be wary of is 07974875737 the mans name is Brian when you talk to a skipper over the phone and sort a date and a price then that date is agreed and held for you but in this instance that is not true. On ringing this man his excuse is he didn't realise that's what it means just say its only a enquiry then if you do take a booking from another group it then his is own fault , fair enough if you enquire then it doesn't mean you book it would have been nice to say I cant make that date not to leave it till for the skipper to run around after certain people in this world I say again if you only make an enquiry that's all it means, if you book that then it is a contract to go unless there is a valid reason ( BRIAN 07974875737 ) PLEASE MAKE SURE TO TAKE A DEPOSIT FROM HIM AS WITH MOST THINGS YOU DO NOWADAYS cheers Trev / Matt

Report on-board Osprey
Happy Dangler's were out again with steve on the winter cod quest, things had been quiet before christmas, then there seemed to be lots of fish about over the christmas week, so were looking forward to getting out and stuck in, but unfortunately weather didn't play ball so had to cancel, but all was looking good last sunday as we pulled up at minehead harbour for a 10.30 start.
View Boats Page
picked up some nice fresh worm from the kiosk on the harbour wall then boarded the Osprey.....Steve gave us the option of going for the cod, or if we wanted to go down channel to try for some ray as well, but it was cod we were after so we headed up channel and got set up. majority of us were using 2 rods a downtider and uptider with various baits squid, worm, hermit crab, large fish baits, and prawns.
We hadn't had our baits in the water long before the rods started knocking and some nice codling in the 2 -4lb mark were coming over the gunnels......but after the first flurry things died down and fishing proved hard for the rest of the day.
Steve stuck it out for a few hours while we caught the odd fish, but then pulled the anchor and turned down channel. again it wasnt long before we hit the first fish a nice looking 3 bearded rockling of over a lb in weight, followed by more codling, whiting, thornback and blonde rays, conger and finally he who must of stepped in dog poo hooked into something nice........
As mike's rod bent over we all shouted encouragement as you do and after a short battle the fish broke the surface and it was a lovely looking cod that steve swiftly netted. As it was de hooked we could see it was full of roe so mike quickly agreed to put her back after getting a quick weight, 22lb 4oz. and after a try at putting her back with the net, but failing due to the stregth of the tide we torpedoed her back, she bobbed back to the surface and we all thought she wasnt going to make it, but then with 2 swift kicks of her tail she was heading back down into the murky depths.......
on a high and with the fishing slowing up again steve took us back up channel where lots of codling had been coming in both to the boats and from the shore......but again fishing was hard with just a few small conger and coddling coming to the baits.......But an hour later than scheduled steve gave us the bad news that it was time to go back in......
So codquest completed we were all happy and already debating the next trip with steve next month where big rays should be on the menu........... -

Fishing Report by Les Jones
on White Maiden II (Lymington, Hampshire)

Report on-board White Maiden II
What a mixed bag of trips this week. Thursdays short two boat competition with ATR Winchester found two good fish in the huge tide, amongst the Whiting, Pout and Dogs. Ian above fishing on 'White Maiden' caught and released this cracking 'in-pup' Bull Huss that weighed a hefty 14lb. One of Johns crew on 'Last Laugh' caught a cracking 20lb Cod to win the biggest fish trophy.

On Wednesday an Individuals crew started outside the Light in an uncomfortable beam on sea for a few fish including a Bass, a 20lb Conger and some reasonable Whiting, Pout, Dogs and Poor Cod before the sea got to 50% of the anglers. Common sense prevailed and we ducked back inside Alum Bay for a well marked Spotted Ray for Bob and a nice plump Codling for John plus lots of Dogs.
On Tuesday David huddled in the cab keeping me company for the whole trip wrapped in a sleeping bag rather than disappoint his two 'not so young lads' ;-). One son fished right through wearing shorts in a good match type competition with his brother, who had only landed at Heathrow that morning at 6am, in from New Zealand. It was very cold day but a very sociable short session! The two brothers laughed all the way through and recorded an Edible (Brown) Crab each, a couple of Whiting and 15 or so Dogfish, a well matched competition.
On Monday we had arguably the best day of the week. We anchored up nicely only for a mate to anchor in what would be our stem in the ebbing tide. Not very close but yes it happens to all of us. As I was experimenting with long distance floated balloons in the ideal tide I had to move away. We tried hard for a Ray and a Conger at 2 miles and 3 miles plus we caught the occasional nice Whiting but compared to the previous day, it was an anti-climax but what a cracking January dayUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Report on-board High Flyer 2
This report is to cover the weekend of 24th/25th January one i would rather forget to be honest! As we know we cant have great days every trip and thats fishing but few factors came into play last week affecting every boat i talked to as far down as essex . Unfortunately for us we have been plagued with vast shoals of sprats making our cod fishing rather difficult apart from them gorging themselves on the feast it also tends to make them rise midwater leaving our bottom baits alone resulting in the obvious , poor weekend for us and everyone else and me needing my haircut after pulling most of it out! We ended up on Saturday with few whiting and about dozen dabs and Sunday in the strong tide just pin whiting even after moving around five different spots it was just not going to happen. Hopefully change this week in the weather with strong northerley forcast midweek it should break the shoals up. Even though we had rough time of it the weather was sunny and calm and to see thousands of gulls feasting all along the bank and behind every vessel churning up the fish for them was truly a remarkable sight which i wont forget. Big thanks to both parties for a slow but still enjoyable day can only console ourselves by knowing they wont be here long and hope things get back to normal. All the best . Jon. High Flyer.PS< Didnt bother with any fish photos as we passed by the seals at Scroby here the little buggers are!

Report on-board Cleveland Princess
Took Antony's party out on Saturday24th with a big spring running i decided to keep inside of the stanford and go after some Dabs but todays tide was very strong and it was a job to keep baits on the bottom but we did manage to find a few fish an hour before slack then wind picked up so ran into the Claremont as the tide just started to ebb a few more small Whiting and a couple of Dabs, these sprats are certainly keeping all the fish occupied at the moment, see you all again soon,bp
