    Report on-board Rocket

    Dear all
Rocket's winter fishing season is getting off to a rather slow start. Cod our main target seem low on numbers, but this is likely to improve over the coming weeks. Despite lower numbers of Cod than this time last year, catches of other species have been up. All of our trips have produced good size Bass, Congers and an abundance of Channel Whiting. Also Thornback rays seem plentiful, along with Bull Huss and a bonus 18.5 lb Turbot .Rocket came third in the Poole Sea Anglings Centre, Cod Comp fished on Nov 16th. Our Cod was a very small fish, but a Cod and that's all that counted. This time of year can produce some very exciting sport, and often produces a lifetime fish for anglers taking part. Good luck and see you soon.

    Regards Trevor Small
    Rocket, Poole

  • 16/11/2014 Fishing Report by Steve Eastman on Kittiwake 111 (Gosport, Hampshire)

16 Nov 2014 by Steve Eastman

    Report on-board Kittiwake 111

On Sunday 16th it was raining with light south easterly winds.
We made our decision to venture into the Solent as there had been reports of cod being caught by a local angling club.
This paid off for the Portsmouth Dockyard angling club as they boated a total of 24 cod, including in excess of 150 channel whiting .
It rained and the wind blew but nothing stopped the constant flow of fish.
The biggest cod was caught by their youngest member Alex, well done !!

  • 15/11/2014 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

15 Nov 2014 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    Hi to one and all,
Firstly I must apologise for not putting any reports up in the last 6 weeks or so. This has been due to me not sailing because of a broken rib !!

I am now sailing again and this last weekend saw our first trips since the beginning of October.

The weather fell very good for us over the weekend and so too did the fishing. Due to the amount of strong winds we've had over the last few weeks a lot of the more offshore marks haven't been touched and the fish certainly seem to have re-grouped!!

Our first drop on Saturday was on the 9 mile ground and this is where we stayed all day long. The fish were plentiful and everyone on board went home with a very healthy bag of cod.

Size wise, no monsters really. The best cod falling to Martyn Leck at 11lb 2 oz and the best ling of 14lb also falling to Martyn.

The weather has again turned for the worse with the winds coming out of the North East. Hopefully the water will remain the same gin colour it is now and we can get back out for more great sport as soon as possible.

Pictured is Martyn with a lovely winter cod!

  • 16/11/2014 Fishing Report by Gareth John on Hurricane (Isle of Sheppey, Kent)

16 Nov 2014 by Gareth John

    Report on-board Hurricane

At last the fish have returned to the estuary now all the years of disturbance have stopped.
The main reason is the shrimps have returned and the fish are having a great time feeding up.
The good news is there are good catches of codling along with lots of thornbacks big whiting dabs and the return of the pouting.
I had a trip today on a very small tide of 4.7m usually not a good omen but i managed to find a good bag of fish for my customers.
We had 15 thornies 12 nice codling 1 massive tub gurnard loads whiting up to 2lb plus and some nice dabs and the welcome return of the humble pouting which tells me that the eco system is good.
Oh nearly forgot the usual spooy dogs .
All in all a brilliant day and a very happy bunch of lads .
And to top the day a large pod of pilot whales were in the area and a couple of the local boats escorted these away from the shipping lanes and the coastguard issued a radio warning to shipping.
All in all it seems that everything is getting in on the abundance of food in the estuary and it can only be good.
What a welcome releif us skippers have struggled for long enough.
