    Report on-board Bite Adventures

got treated to a birthday sharking trip from my kids last week so made the journey down to penzance on a very wet friday morning, made really good time and reached the harbour for 7am. Parked in the train station car park as you can no longer park on the quay, at only just over £3 all day its not a biggie, just remember the ticket machines are located right in front of the train station entrance if you dont want to spend 10 minutes looking like an idiot while you look for one. Went and sampled a perfectly cooked fry up at the cafe opposite the car park, then made my way to the boat looking forward to a day afloat with the cornish fish magnet.....even the rain had stopped and the sun was threatening to make an appearance......
after a short steam dropped down some feathers for some fresh bait, and one of the lads brought up a Bonito.....this was quickly followed by another bonito for myself, along with some nice mackerel......so wasn't long before we steamed off to the sharking grounds........but despite perfect conditions the sharks didnt want to play, though we did manage to land 2 and i had a little tussle with one before it spat my bait......
Now sharking is a waiting game so spent this time bottom fishing where whiting and my first ever megrim were taken on strips of fresh mackerel fillet......i also took along my LRF rod and used a 5g spinner to have some fun with the mackerel until the i noticed a long slender shape chasing one which announced the arrival of the gars so quickly switched from a spinner to a float, and if you have never had a gar on very light tackle you really are missing out, they gave a great scrap, jumping out of the water and tail walking, my only regret was not catching any of this on film......and chippy assured me the gars get even bigger in the next month or so.....but before long the day was over and we headed back into port. I hadn't landed a shark but was a very happy man......

  • 28/09/2014 Fishing Report by Colin Cooter on Emma Jayne (Chichester, West Sussex)

28 Sep 2014 by Colin Cooter

    Report on-board Emma Jayne

McLaren boys came out today and we decided to go bass hunting. The tide wasn't quite right when they boarded the boat so we went and did a bit of bottom fishing to start with where the boys brang up plaice, squid, cuttle fish and two good sized bream. We then went on to set up all the rods with lures ready for the tide to be just right to fish for the bass. In no longer than 5 minutes of drifting the boys had already caught 5 beautiful keepers for their dinner. The rest of the trip was spent fishing drifting the same piece of ground and the boys went home with a cracking haul from the days fishing with everyone taking home at least 5 bass each.

The bass are definitely in and anyone looking to go can book on the Emma Jayne with various weekend and week day dates available. Lets make the most of this brilliant bass fishing while we can. Call Colin on 07779 654 022 to book.

    Report on-board Reel Deal

me and my good friend nial fished a spur of the moment overnighter aboard reel deal with skipper dan .
the weather looked spot on for a trip down to sillary bay in search of tope. we left the marina at 11 oclock thursday night and the sea was flat calm with a forecast of 6 mph winds.it turned out to be completely wrong.by the time we got to foreland point the calm weather had deteriorated somewhat and we was being blown around by wind averaging 20-30 mph !the mark we wanted to get to was totally unfishable as a result of a small tide and the wind constantly swinging the boat around.we tucked in close to sillary bay and immediately started catching huss, dogs, codling and pout.the conditions made it impossible to present a bait confidentlydue to the gusting wind and swinging boat. so dan decided on a move further up channel to try to get the boat to sit better.we caught steadily until first light when we agreed a few drifts using jellys on the foreland ledge might throw up a bass or two,.fish were showing on the sounder but just wouldnt bite.we then moved further up channel to another reef for a couple of drifts but these too were fishless so we agreed that a steam back towards porlock in the hope of hounds , huss and rays was a good call.unfortunately on the flood the sea had a large swell rising and we headed further up channel in the hope the wind was calm enough to get to the 3 mile bank to catch some blonde ray.bloody weather just wasnt on our side this trip and the swell was even bigger further offshore so we tried a few marks around dunster and kilve.we caught more conger and thornback and small tope but no cod.dan really tried his hardest to find some cod but apart from the few keepers we had at slilary the day was to end on a sunny but somewhat windy day.
we caught some quality fish again and dan kept the coffee and the banter going all night and day.a thoroughly enjoyable night fishing trip with great company.
until next time, which wont be too far away.....
    tight lines all.
if you are looking for a skipper with a vast knowledge of the channel and who works hard for his clients then give dan a call and book a trip.

    Report on-board Skerry Belle

Well who's a Happy Chappy then !!! Great day On the Skerry Belle Charter Boat with skipper Roger Lennon and John Barnes plus a great crew David Zippy Long and weather for shorts and T shirts in October how good is that. I was on this trip to hone my uptiding skills and hopefully christen a new uptide Bass rod and some new uptiding weights, well I couldn't have asked for a better result than this 7lb+ Bass and everything well and truly came together so well pleased. Got to be honest I can't take all the credit for catching this fish as John showed me a baiting option for the pennel rig in a string of yellowtail lug and strips of squid on each hook so a joint effort ! However It's All Mine and I even tagged it just in case anyone wanted to run off with it !!! Great day with many other fish taken amongst the crew, Whiting, Codling some nice size too plus Dogs, Pouts. Image taken by Roger on his New Sony Xperia phone and in landscape format so when you catch quality fish on his boat you even get top Quality Happy Snaps for your albums how good is that.

  • 02/10/2014 Fishing Report by Steve Harris on Dentex II (Chatham, Kent)

2 Oct 2014 by Steve Harris

    Report on-board Dentex II

    Hi Guys

DENTEX II is now here and available for hire.

Well guys, a bit of a shock. I had ‘The Dentex’ all sprayed up, looking great and ready for the season ahead. I got her back in the water and things all changed.

I made an offer on a new boat including a PX for ‘The Dentex’ and it was all systems go. Within a week I had a another cracking boat. I’ve decided to call her DENTEX II. I’ve had all the logos done and she’s looking great. The web site will soon be reflecting this superb craft but if you want to see her go onto the Facebook page by taking the link from here.

The boat is a Portland 10 which is 35ft long with a beam of 3.7metres, so there is loads of fishing area and there’s seating under cover for anglers to get out of the bad weather. She has 2 engines which are caterpillar 300hp giving a top speed of 29 knots and with an easy cruising speed loaded up of 18 knots. So less time in traveling to the fishing grounds just more time fishing – happy days.

Since I have had her the fishing has just carried on as before with the ‘Dentex’ with lots of fish coming on board.

This season is looking great with lots of skate, whiting, doggies, bass and also there are a great number of codling about 1lb to 3lb at the moment so the season is really looking good.

All in all for ‘Dentex Charters’ things are looking bright with lots of new customers coming on board to enjoy a great day out in comfort and style.

Weekends for the rest of the year are almost full so be quick to get in but midweek sailings are ok.

Evening trips are getting busy with doggies and whitings there and maybe the codlings will push up the Medway soon.

    All the best

    Skipper Steve
