Report on-board High Flyer 2
Been a bit slack on the reports lately mainley due to the fact we have lost a number of trips with these strong North easterlys , trips we have managed have been mostly inshore due to the wind very testing this suppossed summer so far here on the east coast. Unfortunately the mackerel came in just before these winds last month and then totally dissapeared again now coming back thank god with tremendous amounts of sandeels most i ever seen i reckon. Lovely to store as bait some so huge you think mackerel are on the string. Smoothounds still hanging about decent sizes now, skate moved a bit further off i found and thank god the spotty dogs seemed to have followed! Looking forward to some more eveng trips with a bit of calm water, also as the mackerel return the tope too so will target them on the further banks weather allowing. Anyone interested in a offshore tope or bass trip let us know as exploring some new ground heading north normally puts about £25 extra on our normal trip price to cover fuel.Leaving you with a picture of the weather lately for you to enjoy. Hope to see you soon. Jon. High Flyer

Report on-board Skylark
We had the Same unsettled weather today as we had yesterday, so we decided to cancel all the 3 hour trips we had planned as we couldn't reach a spot for sheltered fishing in 3 hours. instead we decided to run a 6 hour trip running through the weather to reach sheltered waters we fished yesterday.

Again we had a great day catching the thornbacks only 3 anglers fishing we had 20 landed and several lost.
the heaviest was 101/2lb.

we decided to target cod and Pollock, but the cod that were been caught were only a couple of pound where the Pollock were all over 5lb.
so we quickly changed tactics to targeting Pollock with lures. in a few hours we had a good amount of Pollock about 30 in total then the weather deteriorated and the area we were fishing became unfishable so we decided to have a go on the sand and shale hiding from the winds.
this was defiantly the right move as we had been drifting 10 minutes and suddenly started to get good bends in the rods, fist fish wasn't a massive thorn back ray just about 41/2 lb. great fun on the light gear we were using to target the Pollock.
by the end of the trip we had 11 Thornback rays landed then we had the uncomfortable hour steam back over the grounds we couldn't fish due to the strong Northerly wind.

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Another Summer festival done and dusted for another year and what a scoop the lads had aboard the Shy-Torque this year!!
View Boats Page
The first good fish aboard the boat and one which led the way in the comp for the first week or so was a beautiful cod of 20lb 3oz caught by regular angler on the boat, David Laine from Richmond.
Paul Siddle from Patrington nr Hull was the captor of the next good cod on the boat. His hitting the scales at 19lb 1oz. A personal best for Paul !! Well done mate.
Of course, John Wilcock, regular on the boat and (winner of more big money comps here at Whitby than anyone else), had to make his mark on the leader board. John was fishing over a period of 9 days with some close mates of mine, when, on his last day, hooked a cracking ling at 20lb 5oz. . When we boated the fish we were sure it was going to take the lead in the comp. Sadly upon weigh-in at tea time it was a mere 1lb off the leading fish. It did look a damn sight bigger than the leading fish though and had it been full of food instead of air, would surely have taken the top prize!!
A cracking competition again this year with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th overall top prizes falling to these 3 lads on the Shy-Torque.
John Wilcock's ling taking 2nd place overall winning £1000.00
David Laine'scod taking 3rd place overall winning £500.00 plus another £500.00 for heaviest cod caught in the comp.
Paul Siddle's cod taking 4th place overall winning £250.00
The boat took a good number of daily prizes too on top of these bigger fish.
The big cod and ling are here for you on the Shy-Torque!!
I would like to say a massive thankyou again to all who sailed with us in this years event and hope to see you all again in the not too distant future.
Pictured is 2nd place winner John Wilcock from Bradford.

Report on-board Galloper
Thought I’d best do a report for june/july as ive been so busy I missed last months report for CBUK. As I mentioned its been busy with good weather for the most part and plenty of fish about. June saw us targeting tope, smooth-hounds, bass and thorn-backs .
View Boats Page
As is often the case this time of year, there was a lot of variety about and a few less common species coming aboard. We managed to get most trips out with very few cancellations. although the weather has stopped us getting right off on some occasions we have still been able to find some good sheltered fishing.
The tope fishing seemed busier this year than it has the last couple with good numbers of smaller fish about. There weren’t loads of big fish caught here but one or two came out on other boats.
The smooth-hounds have been steady in numbers and the odd double has been mixed in here and there with a few more showing the past couple of weeks.
the bass fishing has been ok, don’t expect loads on every general trip but were seeing the odd good fish here and there along with a few smaller ones.
We have done a few bass trips over the last few weeks with mixed results, some lovely fish have come out. Pictured is Glenn who has done several bass trips over the years. He had a lovely brace of fish in two consecutive casts, the first went 7.8lbs and the next went 8.13lbs! don’t expect this every trip but as this proves it can and does happen.
There are still numbers or thornbacks in places, many are small fish which we generally find this time of year but some are a good size and the males make good eating.
We had a bass trip booked last week, unfortunately there had been a storm over night which hadn’t completely cleared by the morning. So we stopped inshore for a couple of hours to let it clear before we headed off. We started well with a few hounds and rays to start the day. Martin hooked a screamer of a hound that fought like a fish twice its weight. It was still a decent hound at just over 10lbs. we had a nice stamp of rays too for the time of year before heading off to catch the flood tide. The first mark started with the odd fish coming through from most parts of the boat. As the tide got going Barry and Lindsey hit a shoal which were taking their baits as fast as I could cast them back out! Another 10 minutes and it was over with just the odd fish coming through again. We made a quick dash to another mark for the rest of the day and this time it was martins turn. He had a bite a cast for most of the rest of the day here. It has to be said that most of his catch were small codling but he started with a few nice bass. He had a couple of bass around the 4lbs mark at the same time with one on each rod. We had a few more rays, some dogfish and a couple of dabs here too. We finished the day off with 21 bass, 8 smooth-hounds, 11 rays, loads of codling, a few dogfish, a couple of dabs and a pouting too. Not too bad following a breezy start to the day.
Over the coming weeks we’ll be doing a few more bass trips but on the general trips we should see the odd bass mixed in too. The smooth-hounds should still be showing and we hope to find some decent girls amongst them. For the bass I’d try worm and the hounds I’d use crab but as ever squid will pick most things up.
