We left the marina at 5am to headed out into the bay to try a few of the wrecks, the forecast was ok,but as we moved out of the river the wind was starting to gust, some of the gusts where 20 knots which with wind against tide it was to much to head offshore, so we had to resort to the back up plan fish in the river for an hour or two and then try the rock channel as the tide backs off,we set the anchor at a mark in the river and everybody caught whiting,Dabs,Dogfish and small thornbacks. We then moved into the Rock channel and started again,Taking more whiting some nice Dabs and plenty of Dogs,so another move was offered ,the Skipper was out voted so the skipper persuaded a majority vote in the end we moved to another mark where we dropped on 7 Thonback rays ,two Smoothounds and the fist Bass of the year which was returned for another day being undersize overall a great day with the Sun shining all day. nice to see Smoothounds and Bass making a return signs of summer.

Fishing Report by Les Jones
on White Maiden II (Lymington, Hampshire)

Report on-board White Maiden II
The Bank Holiday weekends settled weather was fantastic for us all.

Saturday's crew were after the bigger fish with Rays our first target species. We had one decent 7lb Small Eyed Ray caught on a bank and lots of Dogs. We moved off to a wreck for Congers to 20lb before Billy nailed a cracking 10lb 3oz Bass on squid, at the end of the trip and the start of the ebb.
On Sunday the Dyer family had another great forecast which enabled us to head for the Bream grounds. It was all very competitive as Ballan Wrasse, Bream, Bull Huss, Whiting and Dogfish took the various small baits offered. The snaggy ground caused a few problems at the end of the flood so after a short move we avoided the snags and found more Bream. Left is Becka and Bee all very happy on LSD. That's Lesser Spotted Dogfish! It was a sociable but busy day for me but the lovely weather sealed it for all.
My original Monday crew of two were cancelled due to low individuals numbers. I then contacted Tuesdays 'windy forecast' half day crew to cancel when they asked to be moved forward to the Bank Holiday Monday and an early 0630 start. This time was fine by me so we snuck out in the morning for more Bream and Dogfish. Most Hen Bream are in spawn and are dropping eggs so they went back. Young Eddy on the right is holding a nice hen Bream.
Interestingly an Oceanography expert advised that it takes 3 to 4 male Bream to fertilise one female Breams eggs successfully. We release the females and some males too, if the crew agree. It would be good if some guidance could be introduced for all of us to follow! Come on Anglers Trust, what are you going to do?
Another conservation argument this week in the news was the release of 10,000 helium balloons to celebrate a special occasion. The argument against was the littering effect and although latex does bio-degrade, if a fish, bird or animal swallows them before they bio-degrade they will die a slow death. So there's another moral option for us.
With plenty of fish starting to show and lots of dates available give me a call if you fancy a full or half day or evening trip. Tightlines, Les.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Fishing Report by Nigel Lihou
on Optimist (Brixham, Devon)
3 May 2014 by Nigel Lihou
Report on-board Optimist
The last few trips have found Plaice, Plaice and more Plaice on the Skerries with the inshore wrecks producing some Pollack of between 3lb to 10lb. We still seem to be lacking in baitfish as mackerel are still fairly few and far between but those caught of a good size. After the winter of storm after storm things are starting to settle down with spring species starting to reappear but fishing is still a bit hit or miss they are either feeding in which case we are catching or they are there but not showing an interest. Plenty more trips planned and as things settle it will get better.

Plenty of Thornback Ray around now, getting double figures most trips now, all good fish 8-10lb+ along with loads of Doggies, some Cod and the odd Bass. Smoothounds starting to show so all looks quite promising, you never know what you will get next. Stingrays starting to appear and although we don't specifically target these, they do come into some of the marks we fish so there is the odd chance of hooking a beast..as we did last year...but lost it an hour into the fight...

one of the customers from the 3 hour trip joined us for a relaxing fishing trip.
we steamed to Filey Brigg in unsettled weather and braved the south easterly wind which was uncomfortable.
fishing at anchor with the boat lifting and rolling we managed to get a few nice cod around the 2-3lb mark.
apart from the wind we had lovely sunshine throughout the day. -
