Report on-board Sea Otter 2
Yesterday i had Glenn Hill and his group onboard they were on the east coast on glens stag do non of them had been boat fishing before and they just wanted a day on the water and to all catch a few fish .
View Boats Page
We normally sail at 7am but glenn said they didnt want to start till 8am and said they didnt want to be out all day i did say it was probably going to be the last day in the spring festival the lads said put us in you never know you have to be in to win it true is the words.
I did give the lads the option of uptiding or wrecking they just said we dont want to go to far ok i know just where we will nail a few a 20 minuite steam from the harbour the lads had plenty of worm and squid which has been the prime bait this winter they had a little sweep amoung themselves my hope was they would all catch a nice few and that would make there day once again as it has been all winter the uptiding just keeps throwing fish out in numbers even this late in the year the fishing was steady and the lads were loving it .
The lads at the end of there fun sessionUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Otter 2

April Monthly Report

It’s now Easter bank holiday weekend and It’s that time of year when the variety of species we see throughout the summer have started to arrive. I decided to skip the report in March because there just didn’t seem anything new to write about, there is only so many ways to say that the weather is terrible and is making most of the fishing hard work. Things have certainly come a long way since then with the first plaice, turbot, pollock, bream and mackerel of the year all hitting the deck. Temperatures have picked up and the south coast has enjoyed some settled weather for a while now which has allowed the visibility in the water to increase dramatically, in turn this has brought a lot of those spring species on the feed.
Using the usual method of a short trace baited with rag worm and prawn the plaice fishing down to the west has been just as good as the last couple of years. The fish are well fed already and most tip the scales between 3 and 4lb. On the Shambles Bank there has been an abundance of herring which have proved brilliant bait for the turbot. It’s not been uncommon to see half a dozen or so fish during the tide up to about 10lb, nothing monstrous just yet but there is still time. Offshore we have finally seen the first pollock come off the wrecks, be it about 2 months late, good plump fish up to 15lb have been a regular occurrence. One of the most important species we target during the year is the black bream, once they arrive they stick with us until September time and really make fantastic fun on light tackle. I had the first hit of bream this last week, some years they can be a little small to start with but the average fish seemed to be around the 2lb 8oz mark and most of them males. Looking forward to another good season after such a positive start, off to Alderney for the first time tomorrow, hopefully the turbot are on the feed on the other side of the channel.

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Took a mixed group off yesterday. The weather was on our side with just a light Easterly blowing so we had a run out to the wrecks on the 20 mile and then onwards to the wall.
View Boats Page
To be perfectly honest it wasn't the best of days fish wise. The lads probably had around 40 codling and ling mixed. I was wondering whether the swell the previous couple of days maybe had had some impact as the clarity was down on the previous week.
Anyway we had a great laugh as always and the lads were pleased with the day.
100% effort as ever. Some are winners and some are just ok!!

Report on-board Hard Labour
So far the spring has been kind to us. The weather has taken a turn for the better and the summer species are starting to show, not long now and the Bass and Hounds will be in full force. Skate fishing is the name of the game at the moment with catches of 20 to 30 fish common place, although on a good day such as yesterday 60 plus fish can be taken on a single tide. Yesterdays crew managed circa 65 fish, 40 plus of which swam off happily. No massive fish yesterday the biggest going about 8.5lb but the average stamp was about 5lb. The fish were quiet happily taking squid and herring baits nailed tight to the bottom.

Report on-board Optimist
The Skerries are producing some really nice Plaice as confirmed by the second trip of the week but the following day a short trip specifically for Mackerel failed to produce any significant fish although the water is now a lot clearer than of late. Friday the 18th and a half day to inshore wrecks proved that the Pollack have returned or at least have started to bite with some nice fish showing the biggest of the day at 7lb 2oz falling to Jamie from Poole. More trips planned in the next week or so phone for details.

Had a great day out with Andrew we had 8 Bass to 4lb and 4 Rooker to 8lb plus a few Whiting/Dabs and loads of Spotty Dogs it was a bit lumpy but if you go to the marks that produce you all ways get a nice lot of fish but the conditions have to be good enough to do this for safety reasons thats why we dont take any chances when we are chartering but if its just a mates day out we tend to go and look at differant areas to see if they will fish when conditions are ok to take a party to them the photo is of a ball we picked up 4 mile off it came from Germany that was a good crossing ,BP.

The weather recently is playing havoc but when we are able to get out the fishing is still good over the last few days the uptiding has been the option and yes its still fishing well considering its mid april we are normally right into the the wrecking by now.

The fish arent as big as they were uptiding but the numbers are still there and the condition of codling uptidings are in slightly condition than those in the deeper water but that will all change shortly all in all its looking a grreat year on the cod here at whitby the wrecking this year looks like been a bananza.

Report on-board Flamer IV
APRIL 2014 - the water clarity is a lot better now thus the flatty fishing has got going now with some good catches of Plaice being made. The biggest Plaice on Flamer IV so far was caught by Andy Wheal who is known as Pixie, funny name that as Andy is almost 7 foot tall, who landed a 4Ib 10oz Plaice, the successful bait being Ammo black lugworm and squid strip.Mark Laker from Kent had two double shots of Plaice and is pictured with one of them. The Turbot have also showed up with a few Turbot virgins getting the first Turbot. Some big Undulate Rays are still being caught with the latest one weighing 16Ib being caught by Roger Knight. Some summer species like Mackerel,Black Bream and Herring have also been landed. It loks like there are some Pollack and Ling now showing on the wrecks.

Report on-board Spot On!
Wrecking is still good at the moment with great hard fighting Pollock that are really in great shape for the time of year, already the first few cod have been caught so they will not be long to show in numbers, Ling are still again taking lures as well as baits to give the anglers a good scrap, jumbo whiting are still being caught with 3lb+ fish being landed in numbers on all trips.

Skerries banks now are showing good numbers of plaice with Spot On's last trip pulling out 45 fish with 30 being returned.
Remember Spot On is Brixham's only catamaran and is the ultimate charter boat in the south west.
