  • 15/04/2014 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

15 Apr 2014 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

A big swell generated from the high winds to the North of us came through last night and has somewhat hindered the more inshore fishing marks here at Whitby.

However, Paul on Trot-On and ourselves with the faster boats had a run out to the wall today where our cruise was rewarded with some excellent cod fishing. Again, nothing big, but a couple of daily prize winners (1st and 3rd) on the Shy-Torque made it all worth while for the lads.

If we have to go distance to find you a good bag of fish then that's what we will do, as ever!!!

    Cheers

    Rich.

14 Apr 2014 by jon old

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Just a quick report so as to bring us up to date, had alot of small fish previous month, tiny undersize ,
codling, pesky whiting stealing the bait and dabs a plenty when the fishing slowed up. We have persevered over these weeks and now the end is in sight the start of spring!!!!! The spotty dogs are back inshore, few skate now showing up along with a few early smoothounds so my guess is after easter its all forward steaming. A couple of decent bass been caught inshore as well, still patchy fishing but it always is at the start
On the commercial side our longlining taking huge numbers of spurdogs in the deep water all returned as by law protected, will make great sport on the charter boat if we can find them on the day. Nice few blondes showing up too, but mostly looking forward to the tope arriving when we will be doing specialist trips, please book early as the list is quite long at the moment and not forgetting this year we will be doing more evening trips as Dave Pike has now joined the team now doubling our boat cover. Dave is keen to hear from anyone interested in long range bass trips obviously prices go up due to fuel costs but thats expected. looking forward to the summer season hoping you can join us look forward to hearing from you. Until then, tight lines everyone.
    Jon. (High Flyer)

    Report on-board Escape

Another great day today, we took the Boat fishing monthly editor an photographer out along with a couple of local anglers.
Plenty of Thornback again, along with the dreaded dogfish, whiting, codling and the first smoothound of the year.
We only need a bass now to complete all the summer species, and it is only early April.
    It should only get better.

  • 13/04/2014 Fishing Report by Alan Milford on Moonstone - now Why Worry! (Littlehampton, West Sussex)

13 Apr 2014 by Alan Milford

Report on-board Moonstone - now Why Worry!

Sunday 13th was out first charter since annual maintenance and tidy up.

Jim, Terry and the lads (regulars on Moonstone) had rolled over from the previous weekend due to poor weather.

This turned out to be a result as the fishing during the week seemed to have picked up nicely.

So it was a choice between looking for bass or bream....handily all in the same area.

When we arrived at the mark it was a little busy to say the least so instead of drifting for the bass I decided to head slightly east and drop the anchor.

Within half an hour we were into some nice bream.....and this is how the day went on.....good bream falling steadily all day.

The sun was out....the crew were catching....what more could we ask for?

  • 04/2014 Fishing Report by Peter Everett on Amino (Shotley, Suffolk)

    Apr 2014 by Peter Everett

    Report on-board Amino

After the very windy winter where it was almost impossible to get out at all for the last 4 months, the last few weeks of more settled weather have allowed us to finally get out.

Fishing this winter was very poor (when we got out!) with an abundance of sprats and herrings keeping the Cod feeding mid-water and not at all interested in anglers baits. Those we did catch were small but the positive part is that this is a good sign for the future.

The last few trips have seen us after the large numbers of Thornbacks that are appearing along the coast as they look for a mate to have some fun with ;-). as well as any early Bass and remaining Codling. Once we get through the damn Dogfish, the Thornbacks are feeding well and recent trips have seen us land upto a dozen up to 11lb, some Whiting, the odd Cod to 5lb and tonnes of Dogs!

With water temperatures very high for the time of year, who knows if we will get a spring run of Cod, lets hope so, but if not there will be plenty to go at with some Smoothounds arriving already to give us some fun on sporting gear.

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The fishing remains very good here at Whitby lads. Plenty of codling showing on the ground and wrecks as close in as 4 mile.
Dave Wright and his mates from York joined us on the 7th of this month and enjoyed a really days fishing on the ground on the 9 mile.
No really big fish but enough codling to please everyone on board.
    The lads are pictured.
