Report on-board Skylark
Brilliant 6 hour trip on the wrecks this morning.
View Boats Page
Everything was perfect with ideal neap tides, hardly any wind and the lazy swell from yesterday had fallen away.
Nearly every wreck we went too produced and overall the customers had plenty of fish to take away.
Best fish today was a 13.6lb ling
Fresh mackerel seamed to take the better fish today but unbaited hokkais and shads caught the majority of the cod.
Great to see kids enjoying the trip and getting stuck in

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Like a roller coaster at the moment for us with the fishing, with good days and not so good days.

Yesterday’s group had a lovey day on the fish with Cod into double digits.
We picked away on the first wreck for a good couple of hours with barely 15 yards movement on each drift. Perfect conditions for working the scrap.
The very first fish aboard was a Cod of 12lb 7oz caught by one of our regulars, Chris Siddle (past competition winner) sharply followed by another good Cod of 11lb 6oz. That one caught by Steve Eaton from Holbeach.
Steve hadn’t been fishing for 20 years and was well pleased with his new P.B!
Well done to him and Chris.
After we picked the wreck clean we just had time for a few drops on one more wreck which to be fair, in comparison, was crap!!
Just half a dozen from that one.
The lads said they wanted some fresh Mackerel to take so we ran back to the local grounds to try for them.
Luckily the afternoon tide was just as fruitful as the morning and they got loads to take home.
All in all a great day on the water with great weather and the usual good humour and giggles.
Cheers lads and see you all again soon.
The leading fish in the Shy-Torque fish of the month still stands with Chinese Henry’s 13lb Cod caught last Tuesday.
Cheers
Rich

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Catch report aboard Sea Urchin for Wednesday and Thursday……
View Boats Page
Wednesday was our first day out this week, there was still 3-4ft of lazy swell hanging around and Westerly winds for us on the 4.9m tide. A great group of mixed experience anglers, came for the day out. After catching Mackerel for bait on the three mile ground, we saw a drift speed approaching 1.5 knots, which was a bit quick for the wrecks, so we covered some rough ground for an hour or so. We got a few fish each run through, but no great shakes.
Once the tide eased, we spent the remainder of the day wreck hopping. Despite the best efforts of the lads, we just picked up odd fish here and there. I believe the water wasn’t quite clear enough on the closer inshore wrecks we tried, as we moved out to the six mile stream for the last hour and picked a few more fish up. I was disappointed that we didn’t do better, but thanks to the lads for their perseverance.
Armed with yesterdays experience, we did almost a repeat, but pushed out a bit further where I was confident the water would be clearer.
Thankfully the wrecks we visited yielded much better results. One in particular kept us entertained for over two hours with 3-5 fish every drift. Everyone caught a few today, but long time Sea Urchin angler, Carl Madin, played an absolute blinder. He was top rod by a long way, filling his fish box with some great fish. Lots of Ling and a smattering of Codling, with his biggest going 15lb 12oz.
It was nice to get amongst a few fish today, but as I always say; irrespective of the fishing, I will only stop trying when the anglers do. Thanks to all the anglers for joining us the last two days.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Unlike Tuesday this week, yesterday’s efforts weren’t rewarded well for us at all.

Seldom two days the same at present and that’s why it’s called fishing, not catching.
100% effort from all on board but a struggle really from start to finish with just a few fish here and there.
The best drop of the day was on a wreck just 3 miles East of the harbour on our way home.
On the first drift the lads boated 6 fish!
After that, just a couple more.
The Shads didn’t work very well for us either yesterday. The swell running from the North definitely hindering their performance at present with nearly all todays fish coming up on the fresh Mackerel baited rigs. I reckon the clarity isn’t so good on the bottom.
Around 25 fish for the day.
Hopefully a little better for us today, fingers crossed.
I’ll report on the not so good days as well as the good ones and you’ll be able to see your fish in the catches section on here, be-it a small fish or a “lunker!”
Always best to be open and honest about things in this game!
Cheers
Rich

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
When we should be having a good run of weather / trips this year is the exception with record temps in the med we are suffering from endless strong winds. When we can get out the fishing has been good with plenty of big Mackeral to start the day then off to the Ray and Tope marks for some real fun on light spinning rods which gets the best sport out of the smaller Tope and challenges the angler on the bigger fish. Drifting inshore has produce some nice Plaice to 3lb along with some good Gurnards and 100s of little Bream. Yesterday’s trip produce several cracking Undulates to 16lb, a few Tope to 12lb and 3 very nice Bass on a mark not usually associated with big bass, Keith had the best .

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Yesterday started out on the fresh side with the breeze coming down from the NW at the back of tide, the drift was a bit quick for us.
View Boats Page
We gathered the Mackerel, which, after the Northerly over the last couple of days were a pleasure to see.
Enough for the bait stocks in one 5 minute drift.
As the speed of the drift eased down towards 11.0am we dropped on a bit of scrap and the lads benefited from a good 2 hours fishing with a good number of Ling to just under 9lb coming aboard and Cod to 13lbs too!
The bait fishing was the best today with the fresh Mackerel doing the business.
Henry, one of our Chinese contingent landed the cracking Cod of 13lb dead and jumps into the lead for the free trip offered on the Shy-Torque III this month and each month until October. Well done and good luck to him!
The better of today’s fish coming up on the baited rigs. The Shads taking a few, but after the last couple of days Northerly’s I think the water is just off clear on the bottom.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)
25 Jul 2023 by Scott Belbin
Report on-board Galloper
As I'm sure you have noticed the weather has been quite unsettled of late. It's not what we have come to expect from summer the last few years. To be honest this weather can be better for the fishing than blasing heat and endless calm weather. Fortunately we have remained busy and haven't had to cancel a single trip aboard Galloper. We have used the shelter of the river blackwater and surrounding areas to our advantage. Luckily the fishing has been great with lots of small bass inshore as well as some keepers. At times there have been some cracking smooth-hounds as well which really pull our strings. It's been nice to see a few eels making an appearance too. These much moligned fish used to be a pain when I was younger before being overfished. We have had some nice Dover sole too along with several other odds and sods. Thornback ray numbers might be down on a few years ago but they have been making up our catches too. They come in all sizes though from postage stamp to double figure fish. I often say that I enjoy the challenge of finding a few fish in adverse conditions. it means that I fish marks that I fish marks I would otherwise Steam straight past on calmer days. It also means we are fishing in stingray territory which again I would usually be fishing outside of. I fish these marks in constant anticipation that the next fish could be a stinger. With a run of windy trips it was inevitable that we would get one and Alex was the lucky angler who caught our latest one. It's nice to have seen several this year already and hopefully there's more to come.
