Finally we got a break in the weather to get out and have a crack at the Uptiding at night.
View Boats Page
The conditions werent the best with dropping tides and water clarity alot clearer than we thought it would be.
and drizzle all night!
sailing at 5pm and returning at 10pm gave us most of the flood tide to work with.
We took fish at every place we stopped but not in the numbers expected.
All in all it was an enjoyable evening doing something a little different, everyone caught fish to take home, the more experienced lads taking more than others.
we finished up with 23 Codlings, a whiting and a strap ling (which was instructed to come back when in double figures!)

Well the Happy Dangler's were out again with Steve on what had been booked as the last cod trip of the season, we got a break in the weather and was able to get out for a 10am start .....We knew that there hadn't been a great deal of cod being caught, but plenty of rays had been showing, so Steve gave us the option of what we wanted to target......
View Boats Page
with the majority wanting to target cod we steamed up the channel to a mark just off Dunster and were joined by boats from Watchet and even a welsh boat was there....
Steve got the kettle on which was gratefully excepted as it was pretty chilly as we baited up with a mixture of the usual baits and cast out......but the fish had obviously not read the script and while we were busy stuffing down bacon and sausage rolls, the fish were simply not feeding.....the skipper called round a few of the other boats that were out and it seemed everyone was having the same problems.....2 hours in we had only managed 2 doggies so steve suggested that we move down channel and go for the rays, so pulled his anchor and off we went.
We arrived at the mark a short while later with an hour or so before slack water, upped the weights to 1.5lb as the tide was really flying and down we went again......as soon as the tide started to slow down the rays started to feed, with derek hooking the 1st blonde ray.....that did its best to take his rod over the side while he was having another of steves coffee's.....only derek performing one of the quickest boat dashes we had ever seen saving his pride....lol
Over the next few hours we managed another 9 or 10 blonde rays with the best coming in at a healthy 20 and 22lb before the tide started picking up and the fish going off the feed again. With the bites having stopped steve took us back up channel to see if we could find that cod we all wanted.......in the end we did manage to find 2, with a combined weight of about 10ozs...., but steve had found our target species yet again.....but before long it was time to pull the anchor and head back into minehead and as we pulled into the harbour we were already thinking about our next trip with steve... -

Report on-board Becca Marie
After it seems weeks of strong winds there was a gap in which we could get out. The sea was calm as we steamed for the first wreck towards the sunrise. First Wreck Produced a few Pollock at 5lb, so we headed out a bit further where the fishing was steady. Biggest Pollock was 9lb 1oz, although we lost one that was easy double figures. As the Day went on the wind returned making the Fishing Difficult.

With a weather window yesterday conditions looked good still a big tide thick colour it was fingers crossed for another good days fishing the fishing was steady in the morning but it was late afternoon when the flood tide came through that the action reallly came on 4 lads on the boat and over 50 cod in total.

There was a lad onboard who has never boat fished before so he a got a lovelly introduction and good bag of cod fillets to take home he was well chuffed we did have a few problems with sammy the seal yesterday robbing fish you can get this once you hit febuary the seals can become very active the lads got a bit of shock when he stole a fish off one of the lines then came up not far from the boat we had to move in the end we were losing a few fish .
First time on a boat for this lad loved it he will be back got his best a cod just under 7lb and he got a few more as well plus he took the sweep that finished the day he was well chuffed,.
He gets nice few fish and a nice in the yellow bucket for one of the other lads.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Otter 2

It was touch and go today for getting to a mark that I was pretty sure would hold a bit of fish as we headed North the conditions were far from good but I new once we got past Gulliver it would flatten off a bit with a full flood running you don't know what to expect but this mark didn't let us down with Cod from the start and a steady run all the way through the trip with the best of the fish coming in as the sun dropped behind the cliffs down at snag ally the fish were taking a mix of Squid and Lug and mashed up Squid on its own 32 Cod all between the 2lb and 4lb range several fish were lost on the way in through just not getting hooked well done all you boys hope you enjoy your fish and look forward to seeing you all again BP.

January 2014 Cod fishing in the Mersey.
View Boats Page
The month started off well with cod of 9lbs,8lbs, 7lbs,6lbs 5lbs and plenty around the 4lbs. And to top it of Kieran Heaps landed a fish of 14lbs 8oz. What a lovely Cod!!! The best day we had was 18 keepers and approx another 20 undersized codling and we where still catching whiting to 2lbs. Hopefully the fishing will continue into the spring due to the late run this year.
Pictured is Kieran and the Oldham Boys with a decent haul of fish. Well Done Kieran! -
