Report on-board Optimist
Merry Christmas everyone and Tight lines in 2014. Fishing lately has been mainly pouting on the Wrecks with a variety of species on the inshore reefs. Weather has caused the cancellation of a few trips and it seems at the moment to be blowing gale force winds every other day, but when the weather allows we will try and get out. Optimist is remaining afloat all winter and we look forward to seeing friends old and new aboard, February should see the larger Pollack arriving on the Wrecks, with April bringing Plaice to the Skerries Bank. Unfortunately we are going to have to put the price of full boat charters up next year as the cost of fuel keeps going up and the distances travelled for decent fish seem to be further, also individual's will have to share this burden as well. We are however offering customers who place a booking for 2014 with us before then end of February the chance to still have the 2013 rates.

On a lighter note I was offered the opportunity to join a trip aboard Atlantic Blue out of Minehead earlier this week for Cod, although when we boarded the Skipper Mike said that Cod were pretty scarce at the moment, I did however manage to catch 3 strap conger, a Thornback Ray and half a dozen Dogfish, the cod that did come aboard were not even codling except for one 19lber boated by the organiser Derek, a really good days fishing in very muddy water. -

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The boat is almost ready for the start of the New Year now. Basically we are just waiting for the new engines to arrive and we are just about there. A total re-fit is definately something I wouldn't want to do each year !!!

As soon as we are back in the water and the sea trials have been completed I will adjust the availability calendar accordingly. It might just be that we are ready sooner rather than later ( here's hoping!! ) So keep an eye on the calendar if your thinking about an early season trip. We will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
May I take this opportunity to thank all those who sailed with us during 2013 ( both old and new ) and hope we see you all again during the 2014 season.
Happy Xmas to one and all and lets hope we all have a prosperous 2014.
Cheers

Report on-board Rapid Fisher
A recent trip for a bunch of local lads to the Cod grounds off the Isle of Wight through up some great fish. After arriving in style accross Poole bay at 20 knots hooks were baited and lowered with antcipation. The lesser spotted dog fish took this to mean that the buffet was open and doggy after doggy was brought on board. After the tide turned the proper fish made an apperance and we ended the day with 3 cod and a bonus big bass.

Today we had a 3 hour trip booked for John and Rob. Once the anchor was down Rob started us off with the first couple of whiting and then had his first cod while John stayed very quiet biding his time before catching 3 cod up to the high water. A lovely still calm day producing a total of 4 cod and 2 whiting for 3 hours

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Forcast for wind later was the report from our reliable weather friends, so decided to go slightly later at 9am to catch the start of the ebb on a SW which should prove reasonably comfortable for all. Unfortunately they lied again as the wind picked up forcing us to hug the shore. Started just outside the harbour today at slack bit later than the timetable predicted cught few little whitting ,the dabs not playing ball as they usually do. Moved further down to the Norman wreck for few more of the same, couple of dabs came in, and then onto Corton again to one of our spots on the rough. Had the place to ourselves for once ,the radio silent, had they heard a forcast we hadnt! Start of the ebb came with a few whitting not prolific as they had been, quieter than usual, ended up with only one cod on the boat between 4 and 5 pound, well done to Paul for that one pictured here, lost couple probably down to the weed in the water just didnt seem to be feeding hard. Ended up getting reasonably lumpy wind around the 30 -40 mph so called it a day at 3pm before tide changed. Big thanks to the Halliburton lads especially Jamie for organising everyone, Paul layton, Paul D, Jamie B,Greg,Mark.and Matt, sorry about the beating rain too! Thought you all done well, appreciate you coming out looking forward to our other trips we talked about. Cheers men. Jon. (High Flyer)
