Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Well, that’s yet another Summer angling competition over here at Whitby.
View Boats Page
Firstly I’d like to congratulate my old mate John Wilford, skipper of the charter boat 2 Dogs on his win in this year’s event.
John’s angler Peter O’Donnell from Hull caught a cracking Ling of 16lb 12oz early in the competition which held out to the end and bagged him the top prize of £1000.00 plus his £50.00 Daily Cash prize.
Peter also gets a 2 night stay at the Middle Earth Tavern. Well done to him!!
Our results personally weren’t too bad to be fair.
Alan Brown from Blackburn took 3rd place overall on the Shy-Torque III which won him £500.00 plus a 2 night stay at the Middle Earth Tavern. His fish also wins him a free trip on our boat for the heaviest fish on the boat in June. Well done to him!
Edward Davies took the junior prize on the Shy-Torque III with a Codling of 5lb 1/2oz.
His fish wins him a nice £200.00
More new tackle being bought there I reckon. Well done to you Ted!!
All in all a competition with very mixed weather this year which did impede us, with 11 days of cancellations!
I’m sure a lot more fish would have been taken to the scales had we got out more, but that’s the great British weather for you!
I’d like to thank all our sponsors in the event this year too, without who, we wouldn’t be able to host these great competitions. Cheers.
Also, a big thank you to all those who had a go this year. If you weren’t lucky enough to bag a winning fish in this competition, there is always next year’s, or you could have a go in our late Summer competition in September which starts on Saturday 9th September and runs for a fortnight. Some lovely prizes to be had in that one too!
Cheers for now,
Rich

Great craic all day with flat seas, sunshine and intermittent gusts! Mackerel and Dolphins in the morning, a quick jump to some inshore wrecks when weather permitted at lunchtime to find the lads some Codling and Pollack, and back to locate the Mackerel in the afternoon.

After the amount of trips cancelled lately, it was a pleasure to welcome back Piotr and the lads, all the way from London. Flat seas, no wind and sunshine for a good proportion of the day! We had a rod snapper of a Ling, "literally", at over 18 lb, a lovely stamp of Codling today, and some great table sized Pollack. It was well worth the wait!

Fantastic run out yesterday welcoming back Ash and the guys from Barnsley; we had strong wind and very choppy seas, combined with lengthy periods of flat calm seas, zero wind and suncream required! We found some mackerel in the morning for bait, and when conditions permitted we headed out to a few inshore wrecks and found some lovely codling, pollack and some small ling.

Fishing Report by Andy Savage

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
With a group of very experienced anglers aboard, some decent weather and with a good tide for wrecking, we had all the ingredients for a cracking day out today……
View Boats Page
To start the day we managed to get all the fresh Mackerel we needed from the Bell Buoy, which was pleasing. After that we spent the rest of the day on the wrecks. The last of the Ebb Tide and Slack water weren’t particularly productive on the three wrecks we fished in that period. Although Ian Steadman literally caught on every drift, having a great start to the day. Taking Ling and Codling to 6lb.
Once the flood tide came through, we ran further south and fished a few wrecks which don’t see as much attention, in the hope of finding a better sized fish. Muppet bait traces with either a whole fresh Mackerel fillet or Squid and Mackerel cocktail took the majority of the fish, although Hokkai’s still produced a fair few.
The four wrecks we fished for the rest of the day weren’t too bad at all. Most drifts saw 2-4 fish come up. Proportionately, it was a 50/50 split between Ling and Codling. The average size of the fish wasn’t amazing, but we had a fair few in the 4-6lb class. Ian Kellock took the biggest Ling of the day at 8lb 4 oz and Neil Pickard the biggest Codling at 10lb 10oz. There were also a couple of Codling double shots, which are always good to see.
Such was the banter and excellent company, all too soon it was time to head back in. Everyone had a few to take home today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of laughs and mickey taking. Thanks to all the lads for a fantastic day out.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The last couple of days haven’t been too bad fish wise. Just a pesky off land breeze making things tricky at times.
View Boats Page
Monday fished the best out of the two days with the weather conditions being the better out of the two, with around 50 fish boated to keep and the usual smaller chuck backs.
The Summer competition comes to a close this weekend and with the forecasters predicting strong winds for Saturday and Sunday, it might end on Friday. Let’s hope it changes for the better for all the competitors.
Good luck to one and all.
Cheers for now,
Rich

As ever, the lads from the Suffolk police had a busy trip the other day despite forecasts of unsavoury weather. I gave the lads the choice between going a little further with a greater chance of bass or more comfort. They chose the comfortable option and it certainly was comfortable all day. the lads run a match on most trips which encourages them to fish hard and they certainly do that. There were steady numbers of hounds coming aboard with several around the low double figure mark we totalled a respectable 37 for the day. In between these we saw lots of small tope, some just weeks old and others of a few pounds in weight. Just because it was comfortable it didn’t rule out bass of course and they still managed a few nice table sized fish throughout the day. a couple of roker came out including a nice low double figure fish for Guy. Dogfish are still there but the rise in water temperature means they are far less numerous inshore at the moment. A couple of silver eels showed during the day too. I’m not sure who decided that measuring fish was a good idea but I sat that one out! Andy had a beautiful tub gurnard which brightened up a grey day. Tony suggested it was the one he caught last trip but I like to think more than one are left in the sea. As I hauled the anchor Stuart finished the day with a dover sole which are also great to see.
I have individual spaces and possibility of full boat bookings over the coming weeks and months if you want to get out.
Remember it is often worth giving me a shout if you are cancelled else where and still wish to get out, as we have lots of sheltered fishing available and a big catamaran which makes it even more comfortable.
