Report on-board Mistress
This past week has been a productive one here at Whitby. We have seen good catches most days we put to sea when the conditions are suitable for us.
View Boats Page
One of the better days last week saw a good number of double figure fish coming over the gunnels.
we took Cod of 12lb 8oz, 14lb 8oz and 18lb, plus a couple of 6lbers all in one drift! it was like stepping back 10 years!
With it being a small tide the slack water period was a little longer than normal so we took the opportunity to get some big baits into the wrecks too taking a good number of Ling into double figures too.
We had our second sharking trip too, we got a tentative bite halfway through the day which we waited for to develop, but never did, we wound in an empty hook! Then 20 mins toward the end of the session we got a positive run, the ratchet on the reel screaming off - it is exciting stuff when that happens! unfortunately we never hooked up, but we will be returning the sharking grounds on the next set of appropriate tides to try and get one on board for a cuddle!
All in all its been a good week.
Tight lines
Rich

With my vessel still out of action till wednesday when my gearbox gets reinstalled i took saxon lady to see today The breeze in the morning was farly fresh but not to bad and we were catching fish the wind was more south than southeast makeing the drift not to bad the ground fished ok with codling coming steady on the shads but i did say to the lads after dinner would be fun time we would nail the better fish as the tide eased and the wind fell away a perfect combination for going wrecking ,

Report on-board Che Sara Sara
Not so far out today as sea conditions were far from perfect, ended up drifting on a reef about 5 mile off. Plenty of marks on the sounder and due to the rough conditions the fish stayed hugging the bottom. The first few drifts produced the best fishing of the day due to the wind against tide slowing up the drift. The pollock weren't the biggest but not bad for reef fish and we soon had several aboard. As per norm some had a better day than others and also nice to see the mackerel showing up at long last. Not the best days fishing and certainly not the worst, mackerel, gurnard and pollock making up the majority of the catch.
