Some very nice fish being caught now that the mackerel are in and with a bit of luck the fishing should be getting even better. Biggest ling came in at 11lb 8oz and the biggest cod was a nice 11lb 12oz.
Many thanks for a great day with a cracking bunch of lads. -

although it took a while to get going, since the first warm up the spring has been good to us. there have been steady numbers of thornback about ever since the first warm up. in April I bought a new boat so the aqaustar has gone and been replaced by an evolution 33 which we are very pleased with. she's quite a bit faster and this extra speed has helped on the longer trips to allow more fishing time. our first trip on here was with a group of regulars and we steamed offshore in search of some spur-dogs. we then had a good run of inshore fishing with thornbacks making up the bulk of the catches. as I mentioned they have been about in really good numbers again. with many good days had as well as decent fish our best day was 63 although it may have been more as it was a little hectic. thankfully they were close to home too so when the weather was poor we could still have a good days fishing and avoid cancellations. in between we managed to get back offshore and this time in search of some flatties. we found a few plaice and other bits and bobs, nothing compared to other parts of the country but not bad considering not many people realise they are there.
as spring turned to summer a few bass and smooth-hounds have shown but hampered by the weather and with such good sport for the rays inshore we had no need to search for them just picking some up some mixed in with the rays. we had a couple of try's for tope in early june although I think fishing was running late. after that the weather has been too bad or the lads haven't fancied. we had a try for a couple of hours last Saturday after a morning bass fishing with one of 2lbs mixed in with lots of dogfish, a couple of hounds and a roker.
thankfully we had enjoyed some great fishing in the morning for the bass so weren't too worried. Saturday and Sunday were both good for the bass with 35-40 Saturday and a few less Sunday. there were many in the 2-5lbs range and just the odd small one. the lads kept a few each day for the pot and let many go and were of course grateful for good fishing and weather. these were specific bass trips so don't expect that every time although there is every chance. over the next few weeks we hope to concentrate on the smooth-hounds for sport and a few bass and rays and what ever else the thames estuary has to throw at us.I update my website weekly with fishing reports so for more information, available dates and a weekly fishing update visit www.essexseafishing.co.ukUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Galloper

Report on-board Why Worry
With the weather forecast giving the wind coming around 1pm it was going to need to be an early start and see how we fared once we got offshore a way.
View Boats Page
The call was that we would give it a whirl, catch a few Mackerel have a another look once we had achieved that part of the equation.
An early start was called for as I wanted the boys at the boat for a 4.30AM Sailing to ensure we was at the Mackerel mark for slack HW and also to ensure we at least had half a chance at the Tope if we was to make a run off for them before the wind came.
The Mackerel were hard to come by today. We managed a dozen in around 90 minutes which by now I had the hump to say the least. Up and down the bank for one here, one there 2 here, 2 there. We had the discussion and the boys were given the choice of the run off for a crack at the Tope with the little bait we had or stay in the 20 mile range and fish for Hounds etc. The Tope call was made so off we dashed for a 20 mile run. We started in 65ft as the Tide was still running hard. I wasn't so confident of a Tope here but we needed to kill a couple of hours until the tide eased enough to drop off into the 100+ foot line.
Plenty of life in the 65ft in the way of Rokers and some big Hounds which the new guy and Carp angler Dean was happy to catch. They were a good stamp of 12-15lb fish so worth a dangle for.
As the Tide eased we dropped off into the deeper water and waited. More Hounds for Dean who was fishing with Crab.
Then Rothie had a run....Trouble was it was a lively Roker giving it large in the Tide lol
We sat there and waited and waited. Got to say I was impressed with Tiny at this stage whom I was sure that any minute was going to chuck the Tope fishing in and go on the Crab for the Hounds but he stuck it out as did Moley, Nick and Rothie.
Then finally as even I started to despair Rothie got the run we had been waiting for and we swiftly boated a nice female Tope of 42lb.
That unfortunately was it but that's how the Tope fishing works. Sometimes you get a few other times none or just the one.
Right on key the wind came and by the time we back in the Middle Deeps it was horrible with everybody running for shelter....Again.
Thanks for coming guys, we tried and we got just the one.
It was a lovely morning's but a shite afternoons weather with great company....Until next time. -

Report on-board Why Worry
Looking at todays forecast I figured we could get an early start, stay localish and maybe get away with fishing until about 11.30am when the wind was due to come and then a quick dash and be in the lee of the banks and away home. We was away from Burnham at 4.30am on the dot. Crew today was made up of the 'Work shy members'. Myself,Dan,Nick and Andy.

As it happened, the wind never really came at all and it was quite a pleasant day which could of seen us way off at the Tope again.
The Mackerel were playing hard to get but eventually we got a few full strings that saw enough bait for the day and some over for dinner.
A pretty eventful day really with some nice Bass in the 5lb-7lb bracket (Even I caught a Bass today) Rokers, quite a few 'Topelets' and the full monty of Sand Sharks. We kept some and chucked some back. There is only so many 'Sea Rats' you would want to keep.
Thanks for coming guys. See you all again very soon. Another good day on 'Why Worry' with good company. -

Report on-board Lady Grace
Today I had 4 adults out for a 3 hour trip and 4 year old Freddie came along for the ride. We fished down to low water and as the tide died we headed in as I had a pirate party booked for later on that day. We finished with 5 whiting, 2 around the 1lb mark and 3 little ones and Stu caught a bass just over a 1lb. A lovely family trip out.
