    Report on-board Avante

    Avante fishing updates 11/6/13

This weekend was a hard fight for fish but we saw a change on Monday with a great day for for Simon and Chris

Friday we had five anglers aboard and after hours of searching we did find the odd fish with Peter Catchpole landing a nice Pollock on one of the wrecks which fell to bait after everyone was shading and jellying for them as the cod for us were scarce we covered lots of wrecks for not a lot of fish in the end but they were all seasoned anglers and accepted the fact

Saturday I had a group from Wrexham who had been with me on the old boat they were a great set of lads of mixed abilities again we were struggling to find the fish and eventually found some small codling and haddocks around 13 miles off when they dried up I had a plan to try some inshore marks and some did throw out a few fish for the boys eventually we found a wreck which was holding a few more and some nice codlings were to be had around 5lb all I add on bait

Sunday I had Bernard and the Pocklington angling club aboard so I decided on a similar route disaster you would not believe what a day could make they hardly caught a thing all day I pulled all the stops out working from around 15miles back into the shallows for a few lings whiting and one or two cod a desaster of a day

Monday they were only three anglers on a few more never phoned in and I didn’t want to let them down so I decided because of the touch we had close in to target them again and boy what a change

I think Simon ended up with 14 cod in his bag and his partner Chris 15 cod all a good size yours truly in between making tea and setting the boat up and other dogs body jobs managed a stone of fillets while poor Jonty only landed 2 fish he did loose a few however the top lure was the old 4 inch rhubarb and custard shad nearly every fish fell for them I did try the sidewinder and other types as it always intrigues me why one colour or shape size whatever works one day and not the next but I had to admit being out fished by Chris ladies always do well why? we shall leave that one for another time

to summarise a poor start leading to the crescendo on Monday this must be the change we have all been waiting for?

keep posted for next weeks rundown

    Skipper Mick.

Windy old North easterly again, getting fed up of the weather, this is mid June you know! Tried hiding up the Spoils for a bit of protection first fish small pup smoothies, as tide eased made our way North to skate ground.Ended up with 3 crackers pictured here , the fish not the ugly anglers! Plenty of dogs about keeping us busy too. Moved after the ebb got bit uncomfortable back South ending up with more dogs, one lovely size smoothound for Brian worth a photo, small smoothy pups again and few dabs. Thanks to local lads Mitch, Collin and Ron, Brian and son Jay, Steve Clarke and John Halliwell, was a most enjoyable day despite the wind, plenty of stick all round, never mind Collin the lads told me the skate tasted great you can always buy some at tescos if you cant catch your own!!!! All the best men. Jon. (High Flyer)

Very windy again today fron the north east, suppossed to be mid june ,weather more like october. Headed north to a small hole on the inside which generally pays off. John pictured here picked up our only skate of the day ,nice fish of 9lb, the others getting few reasonable size smoothounds which are starting to make a show along with the spotties who today seemed a bit shy for some reason. Moved south into the Roads for a bit of shelter, more dogs and picked up about dozen nice dabs in total to finish the day off. Big thanks to all the lads who came from Northampton appreciate you making the journey and especially to Mick for organizing the trip. Also John first time on the Flyer and Dave Smith too. Many thanks men, hoping for better weather next time, enjoyed the day though lots of good banter as usual! All the best. Jon. (High Flyer)

Weather great at the weekend so headed off to see what difference a few days sunshine had made. Straight away Steve and his family were into the fish especially Steve's wife who was definately showing the boys how it was done. As the tide dropped away the Bull Huss made an appearance with 3 fish being taken to 13 pounds. Total amount of fish for the day was over 100! With all fish being returned to swim another day. 7 different species in the day including, Dog Fish, Bull Huss, Tope, Thornback Ray, Smooth Hound, Whiting and Dab.
