Its that time of year again when the weather has the last laugh.

Thankfully of late things have been pretty settled, great catches of Plaice and Bream continue to keep all busy. It is the latest I have ever caught Plaice and it is showing no sign of slowing as yet. Combine the red spots with Bass, Bream, Cod, Rays, Congers, Turbot, Brill and some Pollack on the wrecks things are still pretty Rosy in Weymouth.
One of the highlights for many anglers venturing to Weymouth at this time of year is a crack at the atlantic squid that turn up just outside the harbour every autumn. Phenomenal eating and great fun to catch, what a way to round of a great day from Weymouth!
Pictured is Phil Rogers with the average size we catch.
Tight lines all!

The offland winds have prevailed all this last week leading to the waters here being crystal clear offshore and spot on for some serious shad fishing!
The tides were ideal for us to have a run back to the wrecks 20 miles East/Northeast of Whitby but one of my mates was there the previous day so we decided to try a new pasture.
First stop on Sunday was an area known to the local trawler lads as "The Rocks" some 23 miles North East of the harbour. This fairly small area is renowned for damaging their gear as it is extreemly snaggy. A good choice indeed as we were able to work the area all day with a good amount of fish on board before home time. (Not many charter skippers know this spot like us, so it usually produces quite well)
We left the "Rocks" still catching fish so we will definately be trying there again the next time we get the weather.
I would just like to congratulate John Whitton from the Whitby charter boat "Never Can Tell" after one of his anglers won a recent competition here with a cracking cod of 20lb 12oz. Well done mate. John is also one of Whitby's commercial potting skippers and his knowledge of the marks inside 1/2 mile is amazing, as he has proven!!! He is certainly worth having a look at in any future inshore competitions.

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Lady Grace (Brightlingsea, Essex)

Report on-board Lady Grace
Today I headed out with 4 beginners who had never been sea fishing before. Today's tide was a big spring tide, we set off a 9am when the tide had turned and had just started flooding, knowing that once we anchored up the tide should be well underway. We anchored on our first spot which after catching a few whiting realised that these 4 guys were very competative. It took a little while for them to get the hang of what a bite looked like with the boat rocking and the tide belting past. But once the first whiting was caught they seemed to be having a 'fish off' to see who could catch the most whiting and they were well away, baiting up and casting out all on their own. The real competition seemed to be between Tom and Colin who were neck and neck all day and wanted to stay out longer than originally booked so I suggested a move for the last couple of hours in the hope of picking up a cod on another mark not far from where we'd first anchored, Dave and Aden didn't seem fussed either way. They were all up for a move as long as they could still catch whiting too and carry on their competition. I did try explaining how whiting have a rattley bite whereas cod are much more fun to catch with their nodding action on the rod and they put up much more of a fight. I also told them if they csught a cod then it would best all those whiting hands down and they would immediately become the winner of the competition. After a very short while at our second mark Aden quietly reeled in the first cod of the day, it was only a small one and was undersized but nether the less it was still a cod and he said he could feel the difference in the resistance the cod had put up compared with the whiting and that meant he was the winner. There weren't as many whiting as this mark so Tom and Colin were eagerly watching their rods so they didn't miss a whiting and let the other catch more than they had. While it was quiter I got my sandwiches out and sure enough this did the trick, Tom was into a decent fish and having great fun playing it in and when it finally surfaced it revealed itself as a nice 5lb 15oz cod. The excitement on the boat was unreal, Aden's victory was stolen from him while the others starred flabergastered. I told them all to get their rods back in the water in the hope of picking up a few more before they had to head in as their wives had been calling and nagging them to see when they would be in. They all baited up and cast out and Dave had his first cod and while we eagerly waited for Colin to catch one so they'd all had one each, Tom snuck another cod into the boat. Unfortunately Colin didn't get his cod before we hand to haul the anchor and head home. Not only did Tom have the biggest cod of the day, not to mention the biggest cod on Lady Grace so far, but he also had the most. We finished with 4 cod and lots of whiting.

Newhaven Fishing News

We are still catching some nice Cod on the inshore ground marks off the sussex coast out of Newhaven. This week we have been catching the Cod on smaller baits with worm and squid. The big baits of cuttle haven’t seemed to have been working this week. There are also lots of Whiting around, they seem to have got much bigger this week and have them to over 2lb, which are a nice eating size. The weather has been a bit kinder to us this week, but still waiting for it to get colder to hopefully see the bigger Cod showing once the temperature drops.
It won’t be long before we are back on the offshore wrecks of Sussex out of Newhaven to catch the bigger Cod and Pollack on the drift with lures.
We still have some spaces left for this year and are taking bookings for 2013, so if you fancy a trip contact Dave on 07966 377145. -

Another fantastic day today aboard Mistress. We managed to take the the daily prize with a cod of 7lb 12oz for Graham Thurlow of Redcar, netting him £50 for his efforts, well done Graham.
Top bag weight onboard today went to Mistress regular John Dioxn also from Redcar, he managed a respectable bag weight of 47lb 2 1/2oz, not as good as his 57lb bag earlier in the week.
We had around 30 to 40 cod today, a rogue Pollock and a few Pouts.
The Cod were all in the 3lb to 6lb class and in fighting fit condition. We're starting to see a few fresh run fish now.
