Report on-board Duke IV
Busy time here at Ramsgate with the summer species moving out and the winter Cod, Skate and Whiting moving in. The Doggies will stay, keeping you busy so plenty of action to be had.
View Boats Page
The Hounds are heading South now passing through our area nicely fattened up on summer crab, they will be here with the Bass for some weeks yet.
With the water becoming more coloured plenty of bait is the way to go so load up the hooks with worm, squid and herring for the Skate.
Sids group from Essex enjoyed Sunday aboard Duke IV catching lots of fish with Sean sorting out the better ones including the 8lb 12oz Skate pictured.
From November we are offering 6hr fishing trips aboard Duke IV, any day for just £300 for the boat so plenty of time to get amongst the Cod & Skate but not too long to get cold. Some weekend dates still available just call or email to book your trip.

We locked out of the marina todady at 5:15am. Headed out of the mersey to try a mark. Dropped the anchor and were immidiately into whiting. Plenty of whiting were brought aboard in the first hour. Then we had the first cod of the day. Which was 3lb. After this we had 2 more cod there and then decided to try for some rays over slack. We moved across the river and dropped the anchor again. It didnt take long for the dabs, whiting and doggies to start feeding, with lots boated. Then came the first ray of the day falling to Mike which weighed in at approx 5lb. A few more rays were caught around the 4lb mark until Geordie Mark boated his PB Thornback Ray which weighed 10lb 10oz, and another PB Thornback for Paddy.
Another move across the river resulted in a few more whiting and doggies along with 2 more cod . We then moved down the river onto the bank and had a few more cod to 3lb. Plenty of whiting around the 1lb mark.
Overall a cracking day with a good bunch of lads. Looking forward to seeing you all next time.

We locked out of the marina at 4:15am, and headed up the river in lovely conditions with the 3 Graces fully illuminated. We got to the first mark and dropped the anchor. After Sorting the guys out, everybody got down to fishing. It didnt take long for the first whiting to be pulled aboard. Shortly after this the first cod was pulled in, which weighed about 2lb. As the sun came up plenty more whiting and were pulled in. We decided on a move as slack was approaching and headed further out of the river for thornbacks and and dabs over slack. Within 5mins of arriving the first thornback was boated at 5lb 7oz, plenty more followed with more dabs, whiting and doggies.
The decision was made to move back down the river to go for cod again which we did. Plenty more dabs and whiting were pulled in. Total Cod for the day was 3, partly down to the amount of freshwater in the Mersey at the moment. -

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Today was a complete contrast on yesterdays fishing on the Shy-Torque. After the struggle we endured yesterday working on the inshore marks we decided that a trip to the "wall" was definately in order.

We couldn't have wished for better conditions for the cruise out there. A beautiful calm morning with a cracking sun rise thrown in.
We were greeted by a pair of Minke whales on arrival which was superb for the lads to see!!
The 1st ridge of ground we stopped on was to be the provider of a tremendous amount of fish for the lads. We never had to move from it all day which was a bonus. Everyone on board had 15 cod plus and some of the lads had half a dozen ling to add to them.
Dermot Faye from Bedale had a nice little wolf fish of 4lb for the pot. Nice eating too!
The average size of the cod today were around the 5-6lb mark with a good few fish to the 10lb mark too. A few of the ling managed to nudge the scales to 9lb. Not the monsters of late on the boat but still nice to see.
A very enjoyable day for all today including myself !!

Both the cod and ling were very hard to come across indeed. However at the close of play Jim Arthur from Blackburn came across this beauty of 20lb 2oz. A nice way to finish the day after a struggle in the morning.
Jim is a past September festival winner on the Shy-Torque.
Nice one mate!!

Continued good weather allowed us to get out again and the sea ended up like glass at the end of the day, with the sun burning down we all caught a tan as well as some fish :-)

After the obligatory onslaught of Dogfish and a few Whiting, we lost a couple of large Thornbacks at the first mark and things went quiet so moved further off to try some different ground and although it was quiet at first, we ended up bagging 6 nice Skate to 9lb, 5 late Smoothounds to 6lb, a few more Whiting and more Dogfish than you could shake a stick at!!
No Cod today but it's still a little early although the fish that have been caught locally are of a reasonable stamp so signs are good-we just need them to arrive in numbers and hopefully the next set of big tides will ease them inshore.
Well done to Edmund, Adrian and top rod for the day Rueben for sticking at it and not getting too frustrated with the damn Dogs! -

Challenging fishing this weekend, but we still managed to winkle a few out. Sat produced Roker, whiting the ever present dogfish and codling to a little over 6lb. Sunday was much the same story with similar fishing and codling upto 7lb 4oz. The weather was perfect this weeknd which allowed us to get to the offshore cod grounds and although there are a few showing it is still a bit early for our run of cod. However if this is a sign of things to come with the fish being in the 6 to 7lb range, we could be in for a good winter season
