RED LETTER DAY
fishing at the moment is FANTASTIC with non stop action almost all day. with cod mostly in the 4-6lbs range and cod upto 8-9lbs best
and taking 4 double figure lings 10.5lbs upto 12.5lbs
we hit one wreck and took 30 fish in one drift. with alan russel ken and davy managing to get down instant hook up. straight back down instant hook up. straight back down instant hook up. 4 times each
all within A 5 MINUTE DRIFT UNBELEVIABLE FISHING
and all nice plump cod between 3-6lbs
we took fish every mark we tried, with so many double shots i lost count

Another slow day on the boat yesterday with just 20 or so fish boated.
So up and down at present with no consistent fishing for us.
We worked on the wrecks and grounds with the full range of gear down there to no avail.
Thank goodness for the beautiful sunny and warm weather!
Nick and Glenn taking the best bag between them with a dozen to keep.
Nick also taking the best Codling of the day at 6lb 6oz.

Massive thanks to the guys for a run out today. We departed Royal Quays Marina and exited the Tyne piers with sunshine, no wind and flat calm seas.
The first stop off to check for mackerel, produced no mackerel, but did produce a lovely 8 lb Codling amongst other fish, which seemed promising.
By the time we’d headed a further 10 miles or so, a strong offshore wind began to pick up, and proved relentless for the remainder of the day.
We couldn't get to the spots we wanted to check out but made the most of a few inshore marks; and were made to work hard for it.
Thankfully, the harder you work the luckier you get, and all the lads went home with a solid bag full of fillets for the pan. View Boats Page

Another good day just didn't have any fish over 5lb today. The water seemed really coloured again so we had to resort back to downtide fishing.
But there was still plenty of sport with a good amount of 2 to 3lb codlings about and a few better pollock. Lost count of dogfish, pouting and coalfish.
Heaviest fish today was a 4lb 2oz Pollock View Boats Page

There has been steady numbers of hounds this week along with several rays and increasing amounts of bass. In fact on Jon's trip we couldn't get away from them. Starting on lures, then bait fishing catching hounds, rays and more bass on bait. In between we had another play with the bass as we moved and again when we packed up. There was just no getting away from them. A different day completely for the guys who sailed with us yesterday.
The plan was to run off to some offshore wrecks as the tides were easing back a lot.
We decided to have a couple of tester drops en-route to see if things had changed inside a bit. It had!
We picked away up and down the 7,8 and 9 mile grounds with some better fishing too.
Ling to just over 10lbs and Codling to 7lb and a nice picking too.
Easier tides usually make a big difference here at Whitby.
Rob Moore from Selby having the best bag with 10 fish for himself.
Rob also boating the biggest Ling at 10lb 2oz (just 1oz short of this months current heaviest fish)
He also boated Codling to 7lb. A good day for him!
Everyone on the boat taking a nice few fish home for the plates.
What a difference a day makes!

Today we had a day out on the offshore wrecks……and pleasingly it wasn’t too bad. Not brilliant, but definitely an improvement with the falling tides.
We ran out to some wrecks in the 20 mile stream in an attempt to find a better stamp of fish.
The first wreck definitely had a few fish on, but the lines were just streaming a little and the drift speed was a touch too fast for ideal fishing conditions. We took one or two fish a drift, which were mainly Codling, then Krzysztof Siwiec hooked a decent fish on a Squid baited Muppet trace. It turned out to be a nice 8lb 8oz Ling. We kept at it for a couple of hours then moved on as we were losing a bit of gear, and not getting so many fish.
On the next wreck we were greeted by a Seal and having taken a few quick fish (including a nice 9lb 4 oz Ling for Don Wang) we moved on as it seemed the fishing had been affected. The next wreck saved the day, with 2-4 fish a drift with mainly a nice stamp of Codling in the 3-4lb bracket.
Sea Urchin “stalwart” Ian Kellock was aboard today and fished brilliantly taking a great bag of fish on Shads and was “Top Rod” by a comfortable margin.
It was fantastic to see a few better sized fish making an appearance, but will be even better when we don’t have to run out so far to find them.

Another slow day for yesterday’s team on the boat.
We started off on a wreck just 6.5 miles East of the harbour for just 4 fish.
Wreck hopping for the next 4 or 5 hours produced just another 15 or so fish.
Luke from Sheffield was on his maiden trip and was well pleased with his first fish ever, a Pouting! He then managed 3 Codling, 2 of which came up as a double header which he was bowled over with.
The breeze span around to the devil’s quarter after lunchtime and by 2pm the boat was racing at 2.4 knots which is far too fast and
the vote was taken to head back for port, returning for 3.30pm.
Tally for the day, just a couple of dozen keepers with the usual smaller chuck backs.
Still, a lovely day out on the water with great humour and great sunshine.
