    Report on-board Duke IV

We are currently enjoying some great fishing around Ramsgate with Cod, Pollock & Bass on the wrecks and the inshore fishing has improved with Skate, Smoothounds and Bass. As is always the case here these fish are keen not to be caught so plenty of good quality bait always helps. Herring has been the bait of choice for the Skate throughout the winter but as summer moves on they are looking more for mackerel, squid also works well. The hounds are here for the crabs, but will also take squid & squid cocktail baits. Bass can be caught on any of the above with lugworm a favourite inshore bait for the schoolies and whole mackerel fillets for the large Bass. We are hoping for a good mackerel year but we need calm clear seas for these fine fish, so far this spring we have had neither. Latest trips gave Jamies crew on a four hr trip plenty of doggies along with Skate & a 7.5lb Smoothound. On Sunday it was offshore to the wrecks with Nordwest Sports club for Cod, Pollock & Bass along with Gurnard and Mackerel on the way back to Ramsgate. Pic shows Joe with wreck Cod.

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

It seems to be a case of grab a day when you can here at Whitby at the moment !!!

Our last trip off was last Saturday ( 2nd trip in 3 weeks!! ) and it wasn't very nice at all to start off, however the breeze did eventually fall at around 10 a.m and left us with a lovely day and some half decent fishing.

The forecast wasn't good enough for us to get to any distant wrecks so we played around on some more local wrecks and found a nice number of codling to around 7lbs.

I've just looked at the 7 day prediction this morning and it's still gloomy with more Northerly's forecast for the week ahead :-((((((((( WHERE'S THE SUMMER??????????

    Report on-board Flamer IV

I had a fantastic fishing trip on the Flamer lV. The skipper Colin made the trip so worthwhile. His knowledge of the local wrecks and best fishing spots is second to none. He made it his priority to ensure that we all had a great time and caught plenty of fish.

I have been on many fishing trips that once on board and paid your money the skipper has just anchored up and not made a lot of effort to find the ideal fishing spots. Colin the skipper on Flamer IV is certainly not in this category, I lost count of the number of wrecks we went to.

All in all a very successful and enjoyable fishing trip which comes highly recommended. This is what fishing is all about, I will definitely be booking to go again.

    Report on-board Amino

Out today with Steve, Andy, Ed and Graham some of whom had never fished the East coast before.

The weather was kind to start and the fish soon started to show with Codling, Thornbacks and our Dog friends providing the action before Ed hooked into something more lively and our first Smoothound of the season came on board. The weather deteriorated late afternoon and we ended up heading back and in to the river looking for some Bass.

Ended the day with 9 Thornbacks to 13lb (a personal best for Andy, pictured), 4 Smoothounds to 7lb, 4 Codling to 3.5lb loads of dogs, 3 small Bass and some Whiting so was a good day for the species ;-)

Well done chaps, hope to see you again soon...

    Report on-board Hard Labour

This weekend the bass came out to play. With an improving forecast right through until Sunday, Saturday saw us on one of the offshore banks with the intention of finding a few bass and they did not disappoint. Although the majority of fish were schoolies there were some bigger fish mixed in. Bait of the day was lug worm for the bass and from here on into the summer when we are looking for bass we will be using a lot of lug. Final tally was about 20 bass with 5 fish retained for the pot. Amongst the rest of the catch were hounds upto 5lb, roker, whiting, doggies and a bucket full of dabs.

Sunday again saw us on the offshore banks but with a different quarry in mind, as our party of anglers wanted to catch roker. Bait today was mainly herring. After a slow start and a move to find a bit more tide, the fish started to come on. slowly at first, but as the tide started to die double and triple hook ups were fairly common. Again we had a few bass on this bank on the worm baits, going a shade over 4lb, Also the ever abundent dogfish and plenty of dabs again putting in a show, with a few more hounds to boot. All said and done the guys took home about 18 roker, biggest was 9lb10oz, with at least 10 more released, a dozen dabs and 4 bass.
