JULY 2011 - " RICK'S BIG PLAICE DOUBLE" Rick Hawkins age 52 from Dorset landed four plaice including two six pounders.Rick first broke his personal best with a 6Ib plaice and then broke his PB again with a 6Ib 2oz plaice.It is some achievment to catch two six pound plaice in one session.Rick was using 8Ib class tackle with a single hook trace with attractor beads on and a small silver blade.The successful bait was ragworm,Ammo black lug and squid strip.Happy Rick is pictured with his 6Ib 2oz plaice.

"THE YOUNG ONES" Ian Youngs age 61 landed several plaice including his personal best which weighed 5Ib 12oz (pictured).Ian's wife Denise also landed several plaice including plaice weighing 4Ib 8oz and 5Ib 4oz.They were both using 10Ib class tackle with short one hook traces with attractor beads and a small silver blade on.The successful bait was ragworm,black lugworm and squid strip.The rest of the anglers looked on in awe as Ian and Denise landed more plaice between them than the other 8 anglers on the boat.

Went out with phil on the 11 july had a lovely days fishing the weather was perfect the compeny was good and phil put us on a good mark with tope bass and roker a good day was had by one and all thanks phil.

This years Summer angling festival at Whitby proved to be a bit of a nervous one for John Wilcock from Bradford. On the first day of the event John managed to set the precedent with a very fine ling of 26lb 8oz aboard the Shy-Torque III. The next 22 days were to prove very lengthy indeed!! However, his fish did manage to hold out to the end and John will now receive a massive £5000.00 in cash for his long wait !!! The WCSA would like to thank all the anglers who took part in this years event and also to all our sponsors who very generously donate to the association each year, without whom we wouldn't be able to host such a prestigious event. Pictured is John with his winning fish. Well done mate!!

We left the Marina at 10.15am.with a request to catch fish other than mackerel to eat
So the decision was made to head out to one of the many wrecks out in Liverpool bay. we arrived at the 1st one some 25miles from the marina in about 1hr 45mins this was only a small wreck and didnt produce much, so we moved about 2 miles on to another wreck which only produced small stuff. We then moved again to another wreck only to catch small fish and then headed another few miles out to a bigger wreck. Which produced cod, mackerel, ling, herring, whiting, scad, Tub and Red gurnard, pollack and dogfish. Leaving the whole party with fish for the table, we decided to head back to the marina. We arrived back at liverpool at 7.30 pm and a good day was had by all. We are looking forward to welcoming them back aboard in August for another trip View Boats Page

With large tides again today we had a trot up the coast again to fish the grounds we fished yesterday seeing as it fished so well. We arrived on slack water with no drift at all so started on a small wreck laying fairly shallow, first drift was cracking, a few dropped fish, but the ones we landed were of good stamp, cod weighing in at 13 lb and ling into low double figures. we fished the wreck for a few more drifts until the tide got away managing a few more cod and ling.
we moved off onto the ground nearby and took a few codlings but an easterly breeze picked up pushing us along at over 2 knots which seemed to put the fish off a bit. moving into deeper water we found a good few fish more, including a nice haddock of around 3lb, best fish of the day was a cod and went 13 lb on the scales with many in the 6 - 8 lb class, a few probably around the 9 and 10 lb mark.
Trevor Burt took first place today on the daily board with his 13 lb cod, netting him £50, well done Trev. View Boats Page

June has been an exellent month for fishing, with good catches of Rays,Bream and Smoothounds and the occasional Bass.
The Mackeral fishing has been the best that we have seen for years !
The start of July has brought windy weather but the fishing has been just as good.
Lets hope the rest of the summer continues in the same way.
Here is a photo of some Rays landed by locals. They caught 14 in total ranging from 4lbs to 15lbs including a 7lb Bass. View Boats Page
