A very frosty morning greeted us on Friday just gone. Usually perfect conditions after a keen frost but sadly we had a NW breeze for most of the day which hampered the fishing for us. However during the period over slack water we did manage to find a good number of codling to the 7lb mark on a few of the inshore wrecks. Most of them falling to the squid bait. The hokkais also taking a few fish. Nothing on the shad on the day which was strange after the previous few trips where they had been working well. Anyway the main thing is is that the fish are still showing here at Whitby and the signs for the season are looking very good indeed !!

It's good to asee that we are able to get some good fishing at last, With fine weather and good tides we were able to go just about anywhere we wanted to. It was only an hour till low water so i stopped short of the mark i wanted to see if we could get a THORNBACK or two and see if the CODLING were on this mark, We managed the two THORNBACKS but only one CODLING so when the tide started to flood i then moved to see if we could get more CODLING, The fishing was steady with CODLING, WHITING and the odd POUT, The total for the day was 17 CODLING to about 4lb and 2 THORNBACKS to 11lb 8ozs caught by Sid Smith from the Takley Sea Anglers.

Yesterday had a group of lads who work for john lewis from manchester never reall done a serious wrecking before and hadnt seen cod into double figures before well yesterday they werent dissapointed we have had a northerly swell running for a few days and in time the water clarity does drop and bait rather than lures especially shads this time of year which normally fish extremly well but today it was squid which did the damage.

The tides are extremly small perfect for inshore wrecking whitby has many many wrecks within 5 miles of shore up and down the coast and at this time of year they a stuffed with cod we started on wreck at 5 miles and the lads went straight into fish a nice few cod and one or two ling after about an hour the fishing dropped away the water clarity wasnt as i would like it so i decide to move off to the 10 mile where i new the clarity would be better we started on rough ground and it mike the organizer who nailed a really plump cod which tipped the scale at 13lb he was over the moon a personal best talk the lads were now keen as mustard you could hear a pin drop we worked the ground till the tide stared to ease the lads were getting some really nice cod up and around the 6or 7lb mark i said its time to go and have a crack on another wreck we will bait fish the wreck with squid .
I decided to drop a shad down to check if the cod were taking them but it was squid once again which the cod wanted and it was jamie whos turn it was to get a double his fish also was tipping the scales between 12-13lb another plump fish the lads fished very steady for the next 3hours bringing some really nice cod onboard they were exstatic a cracking day they were very happy they all ended with some lovelly sized cod .
Mike the organizer won the day with the biggist.

PERSONAL BESTS ALL ROUND !!!!

Party of 5 had our best days fishing yesterday all achieving p.b's - NO EXAGERATION !!!
We headed out for a 12 hour trip to a mark down river, which the skippers 40 year experience proved to be spot on, best described as 'Skate Mecca'.
Although the boat has state of the art fish finders, the skippers local expert knowledge of the Thames proved invaluable!!!.
Top quality bait included in the price!!
With a catch of 24 Skate up to 12lb, at one point keeping the skipper (Dave) running from one end of the boat to the other and back, countless times, with landing net in hand as 5 of us hauled in 5 beautiful sized Skate in the space of 10 minutes !!! We certainly tested his fitness!! LOL.
Dave kept the tea n coffee flowing during the odd quiet spell.
Help was always on hand for those less experienced on board with any questions or tips on techniques etc.
A lovely boat perfectly sized for up to 6 anglers, excellent working order with all safety features (life jackets, raft etc).
We enjoyed the trip so much we've already booked next months fishing extravaganza!!
Would certainly recommend this professional outfit for begginers through to expert anglers, with good fishing along with an enjoyable atmosphere that would suit young and old alike.
10 out of 10 ! ! ! -
