Report on-board Silver Spray II
The neap tides have fished well on some of the inshore wrecks south of Poole. It has not been uncommon to see 20 – 30 congers in one session along with plenty of good sized tope on the slack water. One such day saw 18 snakes and 16 tope brought to the side of the boat in just a few hours along with a nice Pollack for one of our younger anglers Nicolas Barlow.

Mackerel are as plentiful as ever this year with scad and garfish falling to the feathers as well. Using the mackerel for bait the grounds at Dancing Ledge and in Poole Bay have provided excellent reef fishing. With most of the bream moving to the offshore wrecks for the autumn it gives the hard fighting rays a chance to get to the baits. We have seen all 5 main species of ray with blondes and undulates being the most abundant.
Bassing is well under way now with double figure fish not uncommon on a spring tide. One trip to the isle of white waited until the last two drifts to give up the goods with 3 fish weighing in at 7lb, 9.5lb and 10lb on live mackerel, proving that persistence does pay off. Freelining is also throwing up some very nice bass with the biggest 10lb 9oz falling to Taylor Anderson

AMMO BAITS COMPETITION - Ian and Michelle from Ammo frozen baits joned Flamer III for the day and brought a variety of baits for the anglers to use in a species competition with the challange being that only the Ammo bait provided could be used.Drift fishing was done first over a reef and produced many red,tub and grey gurnards along with scad, mackerel, pouts, garfish and poor cod. Then a session drifting for flatfish using Ammo black lug tipped with squid strips lured some plaice and dabs with Ian catching a plaice him self. Two sessions at anchor then followed seeing some good size black bream being caught the biggest of 4Ib landed by elder statesman Mick Nunn with the successful bait being small pieces of Ammo mackerel.Dog fish, pollack, pouts,Thornback rayand more gurnards were also caught during the anchor sessions.Ian and Michelle also sponsored some trophies and prizes for the day which I know the lads and me greatly appreciated.Andy Coillings won the competition with 234 points.Best fish award - Mick Nunn 4Ib Black Bream. The crew and Ian are pictured.

BLONDES R'US - a morning session at anchor produced a hectic time with blonde rays and two bonus turbot.Dodgey Dave Barton started it all of by losing what could only have been a big blonde, they certainly hang on in the tide and test your tackle to the full,he later made amends catching blonde rays of 21Ib and 19Ib 8oz.Wayne Frapple joined in with blondes of 13 and 18Ib.Peter Collings landed a 15Ib blonde followed by his first ever turbot weighing 9Ib.Not to be out done Peters dad Andy landed a 20Ib blonde and his first ever turbot which weighed 6Ib 8oz.The Irish contingent in Donald and Billy weighed in with four blondes up to 19Ib.A few other smaller blondes were caught before all to soon the tide picked up and with the wind increasing it was time to move from the mark. All the blonde rays were returned back alive.I must mention Paul Milkins who must have wondered what was going on as he was the only one not to get a blonde.Dodgey Dave Barton is pictured with his 21Ib blonde. The successful bait for all the fish was Ammo squid and fresh mackerel fillet cocktails mounted on pennel rigs.
