Windy old day today but right direction from the west, only handfull of boats out, conditions only allowing inshore fishing once again! Pity really as been trying to get a bit of distance to see whats about but same old weather pattern seems just to be at weekends! Lads on today from up lincs, appreciate you coming fair way , least the day was comfortable and for once we seemed to be without the whiting. Not so many for us today thank god, the weed at times was a pain but always is this time of year. Alot of small codling were put back, the keepers here pictured average out between 2 and 3lb best one today was 3 and half only by chris pictured below. Not a single other species today, no pouting, no flatties at all just the codling which we have been very lucky and very grateful for they have stayed around even in this mild weather. Big thanks to all the boys for coming out bit cool at times in the wind, also for helping washing down, and it didnt rain for once! Hoping to go out one more night trip before xmas also looking forward to a calm slot to try on the banks and a very large hole i found around the 7 mile mark worth investigating i think. For all those who have come out on the High Flyer and had a day with us also all the regulars who come whether the fishing is good or bad i really would like to thank you for your support throughout the year, been a hard year at times like the mackerel this year but blessed with lots of skate but thats fishing. May you all have a great festive period ,some of us will be working! Look forward to 2015 for more tight lines. All the best. Jon. (High Flyer)

Latest report covers weekend of 13th and 14th Dec, weather keeping us inshore again strong west and southwest. Sat quite a few boats out but had the sea to ourselves sunday joined by only one boat from Lowestoft. Quite a interesting weekend with medium tides the flood seemed to fish better for us didnt help when tide eased as boat all over the place both days but the lads coped. Sat proved more productive with fantastic whiting coming aboard caught mainly on fresh herring, nice few flatties at slack too, couple of pouting here and there and codling throughout the day but a nice little spurt after dark as we stayed to finish the tide for a hour or two extra. Picture here of the lads on 13th Sat with some of the keepers all roughly between the 2/3lb mark on average. Nothing better for us size wise and no skate today. Sunday proved much the same still no skate but few more flatties today good sizes as well, the whiting were constant pretty much all day but small annoying buggers today only the odd decent fish. Less codling today as keepers as smaller fish quite alot of codling thrown back today, well done lads no pictures as hasty gutting and filleting put pay to that! Big thanks to all the lads from this weekend will try get out weather depending to see if any bigger fish out on the banks could do with a break in the weather wind a pain as usual . Keep eye on our night trips as had better fish on them, also if you fancy getting out over xmas break will be making up trips so get in touch . All the best. Jon.( High Flyer)

Antony and his party were on the ball Saturday morning it was nice to get away on time so that we could get the best out of the falling tide with low water around 9.00am on the mark i was hoping for a few fish before slack water, the flood has been fishing very good the last few times ive been in that area so i was pretty confident that we would get a good selection of fish,Bert had the first of many on the boat with Rodger bringing in the best fish of the day a lovely condition 6lb8oz proper Cod the party respected the size limits and put back the fish that i recommended under 4ocms unless they were gut hooked i think this size fish will allow you to get a half pound fillet off each side if you are good with the knife weight wise if you weigh the majority of these 40-44cm fish you will be amazed that they only go about a pound and half to three quarters and haven't had a chance to reach maturity so putting the smaller ones back is a feather in you cap for conservation and the future Cod stocks well done boys have a great xmas and look forward to seeing you all in the new year,BP.

Brian took pity on me after loads of shifts and bad weather and persuaded me to persuade my wife to let me come out on weekend...it took a lot of smarming to get the okay but I managed and at half six I got up in darkness, made my sandwiches and energised with a couple of strong coffees I wandered down to the Yacht Club to meet him. It was supposed to be raining but wasn't which was a good sign and with Simon and Mike aboard the four of us headed out to sea. The wind was quite stiff and we couldn't drop anchor in the intended spot so moved to a mark that's been pretty productive of late; it's where I'd been getting my roker and the 6lb cod a few weeks back and though lumpy it was fishable. We were still on the flood and with rods rigged and baits hooked we dropped down and started to fish.

I had my uptider of course but also a new toy - Fladen have brought out a new and update version of their popular and superb full carbon rods and my 7ft 10-20lb class had arrived a few days previously. I'd christened it with a whiting on Friday on a brief session but it really needed to get codded. The reel seat was a bit too short to take my usual Lever Drag multipliers so I decided, seeing as it's a sensitive rod, to screw on my Maxximus KM10 spinning reel - a small coarse reel it was totally unsuitable for the job of pulling codling up against three knot tides with a pound of lead on but I figured that it'd give me a really good feel for the rod and the fish, especially with the braid that's on there, so with a 4/0 pennel holding a couple of frozen blacks and a ring of unwashed squid from Sam's Baits I dropped it off the stern and let out plenty of line...
Three minutes! Talk about quick, the rod was nodding away and I started winding it in. I should have greased the reel up a bit more to smooth things out with this workload but it coped admirably and up came the first cod of the day.
Simon was next up - his first boat trip. Used to catching a lot of pin whiting he wasn't unfamiliar with what came aboard...well, I say next up but I mean next person up - I was on three codling already and we'd been fishing twenty minutes tops; two on the full cabron and one on the uptider with a whole unwashed squid.
Mike was next, with his first cod of the day
And then my rod was going again. I was feeling guilty so offered it to Brian so he could have a play with my skinny rod.
At this point I was streaking ahead. The others all had fresh lug while I was on frozen blacks and this kind of stayed the same throughout the remainder of the flood; I mention this because things reversed totally on the ebb. I think I landed six codling before slack (plus whiting) but only two once it turned, the others catching up at this time and Brian overtaking me. Perhaps it was an anomaly or just where my baits were dropping or perhaps there's something about expected food and tide states? Who knows; but I was having great fun on this setup whatever I caught!
The sea flattened considerably once the ebb started and the first hour was manic before it went quiet and apart from the odd fish here and there we had to wait until it passed it's peak before the fish came in more steadily and just after three we brought the line sin to make it back through the heads before darkness fell with 28 keeper cod (split evenly between us) measuring 42-48cm in the bucket plus a few decent whiting including a two pounder.
With Brian driving Mike and I tackled the gutting and the fish were full up, their stomachs bulging. Mostly crab, shrimp and prawn with a few digested fish. One of mine, full and fat, had taken my bait while a six inch whiting was down its throat with the tail still in the mouth; another had a crab around 5 inches across the carapace in its stomach which is the largest crab I've seen in a fish - and this was a 46cm fish so not even a lunker. Another had a sea mouse and a few had lug in them. Back we came as the sun began to set on what felt like my best boat session since the summer before last when we bagged up on thornbacks and hounds...
A truly great day and a huge tonic to my winter blues - Thanks ever so much Brian and thanks also to Mike and Simon who were a pleasure to spend the day with. -

Started off todays charter with high hopes of getting hold of few last remaining skate that have been hanging around inshore tide was right , bit lumpy but worth the ride i thought! Anchored up to proven spot armed with fresh herring but the whiting had other ideas. Few crackers came aboard from the off but no skate! Stayed there till slack couple of flatties came in too. Moved with the other dozen or so boats to the Roads slightly off in the deeper part still hoping for our skate but wasnt to be. The fishing was too slow with just whiting and small codling or two so headed in to my usual inside spot on the rough where we just about guarentee the codling will be there! Ended up with about 25 keepers i believe, some nice whiting in among them, Really enjoyed the day with great lads, Dave and Rodger,Stan,Nick Jamie,Ben, and Sean ,Simon,Chris and Ian, pity about the skate but think the codling made up for it. look forward to seeing you boys again soon, all the best.
