With the wind in the east it has been hard work getting out went yesterday got as far as the stanford channel and turned back mountainous seas coming in over the bank so headed north to the back of the twins just as bad there so ended up just out side the clairmont pier still a big sea but we stuck it out plenty of small Cod again all around the 32cm--35cm size with these fish in abundance its going to very good fishing in 2 years as they sone put weight on they will be our 3lb--5lb fish one of the party had a big Whiting as well it weighed in at 1lb7oz and still had the roe,well done lads for sticking at it see you all soon,a picure of sleeping beauty its a hard life fishing, bp.

May was another busy month aboard the 'galloper'. We were lucky enough to get most of our trips in with some very good weather at times. May has marked the transition from spring to summer with a few late winter species showing earlier in the month and summer species arriving in the form of mackerel and tope. We had some more big numbers of thorn-backs at the start of the month with some of our customers choosing to target them over the bass which also showed in decent numbers. We had several days with 35-50 coming out on several trips. Thankfully there have still been a few rays in the estuary which have saved the odd day when it has been windy.
The last couple of weeks have seen the biggest change and although the odd cod has still been showing it seems summer is here with good numbers of hounds spread throughout most area's. Most of these have been the 3-7lbs fish which are great sport on light gear although 'big guy' did manage a double figure one on a trip with us the other day. The main numbers of the bass have slowed down on the ground fishing. However there's a few coming out on most trips and there will still be good numbers to be had over the coming weeks either on lures or offshore. The most promising signs of summer have been the big number of mackerel which are no doubt helped by the warmer weather and more settled conditions than last summer.
Sundays trip saw a surprise for one of our regulars john. As usual we were having several last casts and were rewarded with a nice early tope of 13lbs. This is no monster but what was surprising was john managed to get her in on a 35lb trace having hooked her in the scissors. The tope can often turn up this early and with the warm spring we've had I thought there might be one or two about. Its typical that we had two rods out with fresh mackerel yesterday and didn’t have a sniff. The trip was fairly typical of late other than that with a nice mixed bag coming out. We had 14 or so rays, 20 odd hounds loads of dogfish a bass a dab and a tope.
The thorn-backs will hang around over the next few weeks and slowly move further out as the summer goes by. If we're lucky we should see the first run of bigger hounds in the next week or two. Im hoping that seeing the first couple if smaller tope is a good sign for the season ahead. Were due a good year and those mackerel will make great fresh bait. As I mentioned bass will show on many trips with worm helping to target them. If conditions are right then we'll have a go with feathers or red gills and I have a few trips in search of them offshore coming up.
With regards to baits Squid will pick most fish up, worm is best for targeting bass and crab for smooth-hounds. If targeting tope then fresh mackerel is great and can pick up the odd decent bass too. for more information, available dates and a weekly fishing update visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk

Been a while since my last report and the transition from spring to summer fishing is well under way in our area,still plenty of rays which have been joined by bass in numbers to worm baits in the right places mainly schoolies with the odd better fish..Smoothounds beginning to show here and there with the signs looking good for the summer fishing even had one or two small tope showing inshore already so looking forward to finding a few bigger ones in the next few weeks.

Had some good trips recently best trip was 72 bass 53 keepers up to 4.5lb. plenty of hounds about bigger ones slowly showing up had them up to 11lb so far skate are still about patchy at times but still showing well. The mackerel are well and truly in had over 150 last trip getting them most trips on the way out the skate bass and tope love it. This report covers two trips we had some good fishing when the conditions allowed with Bernardo holding up his prizes it was a bumper trip with Bass to 5lb and Rooker that Denis is holding a bit over 9lb plenty of fish are showing at the moment,come the weekend things didont go to plan as the weather was very poor a lot of s/e wind and swell stopped us from going to the marks that i have been fishing just laterly lets hope the wind eases a bit for the coming week,BP.

Last day of the week Sunday should of been in church but fishing more important! With the end of the strong tides thought it was worth a stab on the 6 mile bank for bass in the rough water. Lovely calm seas still could see the water gushing over the bank perfect bass conditions. We sat and moved 3 times in about 2 hours not a bite! Not even a whiting or doggie completely a big fat zero! Cant understand it fish from there recently but i suppose thats fishing. With that moved back to our trusty skate mark from yesterday and with fingers crossed set the anchor. Wasnt long and soon had few fish come aboard. Still tiny whiting about, nice few flatties, also smally smoothies and doggies making a show. Ended up with few skate pictured here, turned the day around for us in the end. Big thanks to mauris for organising lads his end and also Mick and Tom on a break first timers on the Flyer. Enjoyed the day, weather was great for once, look forward to seeing you all at some point. Many thanks,

Flat calm seas today cant believe the weather , makes a change! Pleasure to be out . Strong tides still so headed to bass bank in search off those fantastic fighters, anchored up to a place fished many times with great success apart from today! Stuck it out for a while but after nothing but those doggies again went to deeper water on further bank as tide eased. I knew skate would be here prepared with fresh herrings , hermits and unwashed squid made lovely cocktails up resulting with about a dozen skate pictured here are the keepers. We also had the pesky whiting still about ,few small smoothounds all returned along with countless dogs to make the day interesting. Big thanks to Piotr for organising his crew from Spalding appreciate you guys making the journey, looking forward to the summer for a mackerel bashing as discussed. Until then, all the best,. Jon. Today headed out with with strong tides up the Holm to dodge a bit of current. Flat calm seas for once and a bit of sun couldnt believe it! Started off with only a few doggies for our efforts so decided to head inshore a bit to a mark off lowestoft end i hadnt been for a while. Nice little result really as wind picked up a bit glad we had made a move inside. we caught whiting which were bit of a pain, more doggies , nice few flatties to keep along with some nice roker pictured here, the ones we kept. Thanks to first timers on the Flyer,Nathan and Gemma, also Owen and Lee, along with regulars Dave,Collin and Andy, was a enjoyable day, great sunshine and a few fish!
