Mon 11/06- Half Day- 10:15- 8 fishing- Where has the sun gone?? Wind has picked up and changed direction over night but luckily this hadn't effected the sea too much - Drifted the same area that was good yesterday and landed some really nice mackerel and mostly all of good size - not as many as yesterday but still a healthy catch. Now fingers crossed for maybe some sunshine for the weekend?

After another week of diabolical weather we had a small break promised by the met office. For once they got the prediction spot on.. We left at 0600 on a flat calm sunny Sunday morning - Heaven.

The angling party were on their annual competition and expectations were running high as the Thames is fishing brilliant at the moment.. I agreed to keep the scores and at around 0730 the fishing started.. From the off they hit smoothounds and bass, the best one came when the tide slackened and we moved to a small wreck, this weighed in at just under 18lb and was a personal best ever fish for Alan Tidd.
I decided to have a go as I had promised a friend a skate for his tea, I almost immediately caught the second double figure hound of the day.
We had a short play over low water trying to catch bass in the wrecks and had one about 3lb and my first mackerel of the year.. a surprise dab and loads of dogs were also caught. The wind got up as the day went on, so we moved into the shallows for the flood and were rewarded with more hounds and a couple of skate.
The winning angler had 5 hounds and a dog fish. Total hounds caught was 26 , 4 Bass to 5lb , 2 skate, 8 dogs, a dab , 30 whiting and a mackerel.. all in all a great day. -

Report on-board Hard Labour
With the forecast again not looking promising, we headed offshore in search of bass, hoping to nick the morning out there before conditions forced us from the offshore marks. In a little over an hour from leaving the marina we were fishing and although the seas were choppy, the fish were obliging. As the morning progressed the sea state worsened and at high tide we pulled the pick and punched our way back in through 6 to 8 ft breaking seas, to find some shelter.

We anchored a mark on the mouth of the river and again the fish were biting but only small hounds and the weed was becoming a problem. The decision was made to try something a little different for the last hour rather than tie her up early. so up came the anchor and off we went.
This time we set anchor in about 14ft on a dropping tide, with not a great deal of expectation from the mark, but from the off the bass were feeding. They were not big fish but there was plenty of them and mixed in were some keepers up to 3lb ish.
When we finally settled her on the moorings a good day was had by all, final tally was 40 plus bass, a lot of which came from the final mark, about 12 of which were kept, lots of small hounds to 6.5lb ish from the offshore mark, the ever present lsd, a few dabs and a solitary flounder.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Hard Labour

Perfect morning today hot and sunny looking for those bass which have illuded us lately. Very little wind pleasure to be out, headed out to a favourite inshore bank didnt wait long and those doggies and smoothies was in the boat. waited till slack passed and with the tide starting to run moved to our favourite location further out where the early make a showing. Unfortunately yours truly caught the first bass around 5 pounds to much jeering from my lovely customers , followed by others but not in numbers. Day ended up moving back inshore to catch more smoothies and doggies, few flats included. Thanks to regulars Jeff, Ian, Ben ,Chris, Dennis,Tom,Rodger, and John, was a enjoyable day. Picture shown of Johns first bass and first time on the High Flyer, thanks men. Jon.

Evening session after being out all day in the Easterly ,forcast wind dropping, was totally wrong. Wind picking up making us fish inside Scroby for protection, few small smoothounds came aboard. Numerous seals round the boat wondering what wollies was out! Headed in to a mark in the roads as evening progressed to catch more smoothounds best about 6 pounds, by now weather getting more serious resulting in heading home to be met with an angry harbours mouth and a relieved crew it has to be said. All safe and sound many thanks to ted for organizing the trip, with brave ladies Nicole, Katelin, Tiffany, and Jason,Nick,Pete , and regulars Paul and Matty. Apoligies for the weather guys, lets hope next time its flat calm. Jon.

Windy day today keeping us inshore with an easterly breeze making things a little uncomfortable. Our bank fishing hampered we chose a mark on the edge of the channel producing small dogs and whiting, on the ebb decided to get some protection and fish in the Yarmouth Roads catching a varied selection of smoothounds from about 6 pounds to the hooks bigger than that one! East fish bite least well proved today i,m afraid no flatties or thornbacks didnt expect any bass due to our location. Was a good day for fish numbers especially due to the weather, big thanks to john for organizing the trip, son joe, eddy, Brett, and dave, roll on summer. Thanks lads. Jon.
