Report on-board Why Worry
An early start yesterday was called for as I wanted to get the best part of the tide up our arse to take us Offshore. Luke and Dan was my guests today and Andy the trusty crew.As long as I have a 'Booking' and the weather is good then 'We go fishing' no messing around on Why Worry for a minimum amount of crew. Armed with brand new Squid and the finest Herrings we were away from the marina for 6.15am.A good run at 23knts for just 3150 revs now the boat is clean again. The fishing was hot from the off. The only problem on the ebb was the amount of Dogfish in the swim. As long as a Dogfish never grabbed the bait within 10 seconds of it being on the bottom, then a Roker did. The only grumble was the Roker were a little on the small side. Perfectly sizeable to keep but I wanted to find the boys some bigger ones. We had a short move after a couple of hours and we did indeed find some bigger ones. As the tide got going the fishing died a little so another short move put us back on them. This time the fish were really coming aboard in numbers and very few Dogfish amongst them. Bearing in mind it was only maybe 200 yards from where we fished the the ebb, the flood tide produced bigger Rokers and the Dogfish had petered out. Luke also added a few good sized Whiting into the mix.

I don’t know how many Roker we had all told. We kept 15 and put more than that back. The bigger females went back as well as many others as we had more than enough for what everybody wanted. All in all an excellent days fishing, the weather was perfect and the company perfect too.
Just to say bait wise, Herring absolutely was the top bait today. It murdered the Squid in the Roker stakes. -

Report on-board Hard Labour
Big tides this week. 5 rods on board, fishing was steady boating 12 roker to approximately 10 lb, one codling showed up and weighed in at 6.5 lb. A couple of early hounds also put in an appearance which is a sure sign our summer fish are well on the way in. Another couple of three Weeks and it will be viable to start doing the hound trips. All in not a bad days fishing. No photos this week as my batteries ran out

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Lady Grace (Brightlingsea, Essex)

Report on-board Lady Grace
We set off on high tide at 7am and steamed out to an inshore mark where we anchored up with enthusiasm. Aboard Lady Grace I had 2 beginners, their first trip out sea fishing, they had a little experience with coarse fishing and were bought a gift voucher each by their wife and daughter-in-law at Christmas. Gary and Roger sat eagerly waiting, not knowing what to expect. Being my last trip of the season I wanted to finish on a high leaving me eager to go again in November. Their first couple bites were little rattle bites so I knew what they straight away, they each had a whiting to start the day off. Followed by a more prominent nod nod bite on my rod, which I gave me a grin as I knew what it was straight away, as it got nearer the surface it unfortunately shook the hook out of its mouth, so I baited up quickly and got the rod back out fishing as I knew there was a codling out there. Within a few minutes I got another nod nod bite and this time I managed to get my codling aboard the Lady Grace, a very slender codling, not quite sized but a very welcome codling all the same. As the tide got underway Roger had his first decent bite of the day, being a carp angler he knew how to play the fish and made the most of it, as it started to surface a skate revealed itself. I was very pleased as this is the first skate I’ve had aboard the Lady Grace, I’ve caught many before on our bigger fishing boat, Galloper, but with the season I fish on Lady Grace, I don’t get much opportunity to catch a wider variety of species, my main catch is usually the codling and whiting over the winter months. So this early spring skate was a pleasant surprise. As I unhooked Rogers’ skate at the stern, Martins’ rod butt lifted off the deck and almost went over, I grabbed it quickly and handed it to Gary to reel in, from that bite I knew it was another skate. By 8.30am we had had 2 male skate between 4-5lb, 1 codling and 3 small whiting. We sat on this mark for another hour and by 9.30am we hadn’t had anymore so I moved further down the edge. At 10am Roger then had another skate, this time it was a slightly larger female so we let it go, she was about 6lb. Being small tides, the tide started to die down after 10.30am and the wind picked up a little so the boat laid across the tide. We moved once more before heading home at midday but that was all our luck used up for the day. Roger and Gary were extremely happy with their catch and now have the bug and want to come again in November for more of the cod action, in particular Roger after he saw the nod nod action that the cod gives on rod and line. Luckily I had taken pictures as their wives didn’t believe they had caught the skate and thought they had called into the fish mongers on the way home, I emailed over their proof which restored their wives faith in them.

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Lumpy sea today with wind against tide, knowing it was going to flatten headed north in search of those early bass and skate which once again made fools of us. Still forgetting its March but the chance is always there. Small whiting and flatties on the menu not in numbers at all even on the sandbanks the fishing was hard. Last cast of the day proved unbelievable when David James caught on worm a mackerel ! wouldnt of believed it unless i saw it with my own eyes, 3 months early, what the hell is going on? Big thanks for Mike (pictured) and Brian from Essex, David, Paul , Andy,Chalky, Collin, and Bob who was first time fishing, welcome to the club Bob! Sorry the fish wernt playing ball today lads and the big swells were a bit uncomfortable but in all a enjoyable day to be out. Many thanks lads, hope to see you soon. Jon.

Report on-board Hard Labour
No Anglers on board today owing to any iffy forecast. First call of the day was to get some fresh herring. Over went the net and 3 drifts later we had plenty of herring to see us through till next year. Off we went to find some fish.

With the forecast being a bit iffy with wind against tide all morning, we dropped the pick and set out the rods. Almost immmediately the roker were obliging. There were fish to be caught but it was a slower day than in recent weeks. End of the day 7 fish were boated largest weighed in at 15lb3oz. This fish being the second 15lb plus fish in 2 weeks and high 14lber, the roker are of a great stamp so far this season. The big maid was returned to lay her eggs and fight another day.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Hard Labour
