Report on-board Razorbill 3
Hi Well it's been a long time since I put a report on here but I thought a review of the summer fishing would make a good report, After a poor winter fishing season the spring arrived and yes we were fishing for Thornbacks with good numbers of fish up to 16lb then when the weather warmed up we started to see good numbers of Bass , there were lots of fish from 30 to 40cm and a good number fish over 42 cm and at least the anglers could keep a fish each unlike last year when it was catch and release, but that's another story, So with the late spring Bass and Thornback fishing, the better weather arrived and so did the Smoothounds with good numbers of double figure fish caught up to22lb, So fishing was close inshore with good mixed bags of Bass, Smoothounds and Thornback rays , Oh yes, there might have been a number of Dogfish as well..... well you can't have everything. I have downloaded the best pictures of the fishing over the spring and summer.

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Bringing us to date been extremley hot bank holiday with small tides lovely flat sea, been 35 miles out to few wreck pretty poor to be honest, some jumbo mackerel plenty of whitting etc. Lost few tope this last week these weaker tides they seem to pick at the bait rather than a secure hooking. plenty of smoothounds inshore for sport along with spotty dogs. Caught quite a few eels lately on crab or worm they must be migrating from broads at moment. Will be looking for few tope midweek unfortunately only got one space available this coming saturday rest of week full. Picture today of young Carmen with a bass on her birthday . Looking forward to few trips this month to end the summer off then before you know it nights will be drawing in again! Keep u posted. Cheers Jon High Flyer 2

Report on-board Galloper
summer 2019 keeps marching on, as I write it doesn’t look much like summer out side my window but we will be back out fishing again very soon. Our run of good weather may have come to an end but the good fishing has continued. The larger hounds moved further afield towards to end of last month. There is still some good fishing to be had within the sheltered areas but the direction of wind and size of the tide need to be right to make it worth while. We have snuck a few days in when these work in our favour and of course the weather has been pleasant on several days in between. when we have got out we have found some nice mixed fishing. the average size of smooth-hound has been down on the earlier part of the year but there are still good numbers and a few double figure fish showing among them. The thorn-back rays have been showing in numbers too. these are a smaller stamp of fish than we tend to see in the spring or autumn but there are still a few better fish in there and they will be bigger as time goes on. We are still seeing plenty of bass on most trips. The lads have had some lovely chunky fish and sometimes in very shallow water. The other day we were fishing in such shallow clear water I could see the anchor! Its hard to beat catching a 3-4lb bass on light gear in water like this. Watching them dart around all over the place as they have nowhere else to go. The bass should hang around until the end of October in places and I have offered some offshore bass trips up accordingly. Hopefully we are due an Indian summer. The highlight of last month for me was a ‘nearly’ fish. this area isn’t known for its variety of species, I have seen several on the boat over the years (we’re up to 32 on CBUK) so something different is always nice. I got a surprise when we were packing up the other day. I was hauling the anchor and the last few lads were winding in when Dave’s reached the surface and there was a red mullet hanging off of his 4/0 hook! Although these fish show regularly in nets in the autumn around here its not what we were expecting while fishing for hounds. I shut the capstan down and darted for the net but as dave lifted it in it fell off, sat on the surface a few moments then swam off.

Quite a hard day today had a few hours slot before the weather would beat us so headed out to hopefully have a little feather odd bass maybe unfortunately not the case. Extremely dirty water compleat waste of time and fuel the previous big tides had done some damage out there mud everywhere. Headed back inside to a day of whiting few small smoothies only one thornback today pictured here with Bernard nice fish of about 8 lb. Bit of a early home today all other boats had left us and it just died! Thanks to everyone today was enjoyable but hard work. Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)

Big tides today water barreling through to start 12 oz just holding in 40ft! Least the sun was out slight south east wind against tide but very fishable. The smoothounds had disappeared today from yesterday only a few small ones not sure why ? Usual whiting thank god giving us something to do. Got boarded by MMO fisheries again not a bad thing keep the wrong people on there toes i suppose. Decided to head out to a bank further north as tide eased paid off with this cracking bass fell to Charlie from Cambridge shade over 8lb. I got a small bass (returned) nothing else from the mark so headed inside for a small thornback and usual whiting until it died again. Slow day but result for Charlie be glad to see the water slow down next week!! Thanks to Mick for organising the lads hope charlie didnt rub it in too much!!!! Cheers Guys. Jon (High Flyer 2)

Big tides this weekend of Sat 3rd August 2019 was slightly worried especially with light easterly, we done exceptionally well i thought with smoothounds from the start, whitting most of the day i know there a pain but it keeps us busy. Moved when tide turned no slack at all to go have a feather, had to move again due to huge strings of weed. Ended up on the mud banks to finish the day with 3 thornbacks all returned really good for the conditions. Big thanks to locals Kev and Jude and Jonathans crew from Boston much appreciated. Picture today of Maggy with her first thornback woman outfishing the boys as usual! Looking forward to our Sep trip. Cheers Guys.

Sunday 28th July 2019 windy little day with 6 to 8ft swells running through on the bank. Managed few buckets of mackerel some small bass thrown in for good measure. Drift fished due to the conditions then just before lunch headed in side to try our luck for skate. Unfortunately no luck there apart from a eel , small smoothies and whiting a chuck! Enjoyable day though many thanks to DXB Water and Crayford Abbs always a pleasure to see you. Well done Tony todays winner! Cheers jon (High Flyer)
