Report on-board High Flyer 2
Nipped out today with Martin Bishop started off with frozen mackerel had first turbot , Martin managed to hook into some fresh mackerel so rebaited resulting in first tope for me of 25lb, . Martin got another turbot follwed by second tope that ran accross all the lines eventually boated 36lb lovely female. Ended up on a wreck for codling, few small pollock and pouting. After tide turned we didnt get another tope run just more mackerel and sandeels couple dabs was a great session perfect weather, cheers Martin one to remember thanks for skippering!. Big tides this weekend every fish well deserved bit lumpy on Sat with northerly winds straight against tide, managed small bass rest was crappy whiting few sandeels odd mackerel ect, quite a hard day. Sunday better with odd small smoothound, thornback ray caught by Ayush from Leicester pictured here first time on the Flyer. He also lost another decent skate and landed a silver eel nice to see. I caught small codling dont ask i dont know where that came from, rest were just whiting most of the day, Big thanks to the Rugby lads and also Atul and crew from Leicester i appreciate the long journey you guys make pity fishing was hard. Hopefully next time easier tides. All the best. Jon (High flyer 2)

Bringing us up to date of Sunday july 14th quite a lumpy day with 25mph northerly wind straight against tide ! Had to fish inshore but managed to nip out for couple hrs first thing. Pinched a bucket full of fresh mackerel thanks for the weavers as well lads , had half dozen bass thrown in as well which was nice. Biggest one here today pictured with Peter all returned for another day well done for conservation . forced inside we managed couple skate rest was small smoothounds and whiting. Not the greatest day but thought we done well due to conditions. Big thanks to Steve from S&P Leisure Ipswich for organising the trip also to Ninian who supported charity FIsh For Benny was a great day of banter look forward to seeing you all again. Much appreciated.

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Up to date weekend of 6/7th July 2019 weird weather again raining and miserable on the saturday and sunny with northerly winds on the sunday. Very strong tides every fish earned to be honest. The mackerel were few and far between managed few bass best was 4.5lb to holidaymaker Kevin from Northampton, best fish in my opinion is the turbot pictured here with Jess Little (returned) nice to see. Few smoothounds thrown in plus the usual whiting, no skate this weekend probably all pinned to the seabed! Looking forward to tides dropping hoping to get on the tope grounds this thursday and weekend so will keep you posted. Big thanks to everyone over the weekend was hard work all round but enjoyed it. Till nextime. Jon (High flyer 2)

Report on-board Galloper
Yet again I have neglected to put a report on here for a while so I thought it was time for a quick update on the fishing here in the blackwater. So far the summer has been kind to us here at mersea island. Although the weather may not have been as settled as last year we have still had loads of nice days and lost very few trips. The smooth-hounds have been in good numbers and size so far this year. Most trips are seeing plenty of hounds with the odd double figure fish thrown in. some trips have seen good numbers of doubles and the biggest that has made it onto the boat so far was 15.10lbs although several others have been close behind and with the numbers of decent fish around there’s plenty of time for the first 20lber to come out.

The bass fishing has been great so far this year, there have been great numbers coming out at times on our general inshore trips with most falling to worm baits or when conditions suit we have been catching several at a time on feathers. We might have a go for them offshore soon and will offer offshore trips for bass until the end of October.
The thorn-backs have thinned out a little now and moved further offshore. We should still see one or two on our general trips and numbers offshore at times but we should see them return in numbers in the late summer early autumn.
There have been a few tope around again this year, they showed early (probably due to the early spring we had) and our first trips saw good numbers of mackerel too. unfortunately the unsettle weather seems to have dispersed the mackerel inshore so we had to source bait from else where on our last trips. We should get another trip or two in before they move off.
We have also seen a few other bits and bobs mixed in such as the odd stingray or gurnard to brighten up our trips. Altogether it seems to be shaping up to be a good summer here in the blackwater.
I have a few dates left over the summer and I am taking bookings for the autumn too. hopefully we will see the summer weather continue long into the autumn and allow us to get offshore and target the bass.
I keep my availability up to date on here along with regular reports on my facebook page and website.
