    Report on-board Galloper

The last few months have seen us enjoy some of the best weather imaginable from west mersea and thankfully the fishing has been able to match it on most occasions. My last report on here was late spring so I will bring you briefly up to date from then.
By the time the main bulk of thorn-back rays started to move out at the start of june we already had the summer species around in good numbers to take their place. Smooth-hounds have been fairly consistent throughout the summer with good numbers of the smaller fish at times. This year saw the best season in several years for tope with most boats finding a few decent fish. our biggest went over 55lbs and was caught by billy who made the trip down from north Norfolk several times in search of tope and this was his biggest.
We started off the bass season with some cracking fish on board. the biggest so far fell to chris at 12.4lbs which came just an hour or so after a 10.12lbs bass for steve who was out that day. We have seen several mixed in with our general trips too and as ever the estuary is full of schoolies which are great fun on our 3-4hr trips. Unfortunately having to return all all of the bass has disappointed some of our anglers but they are a pleasure to catch anyway which keeps most people pleased.
There have been several stingrays come out the last few weeks, we were lucky enough to find a small one which matched to small angler who caught it. Charlie was a few days shy of 8 years old when he had his first stingray. These fish are as rare as hens teeth so im sure may a well seasoned angler would be envious of him or any others who managed to boat one this year.
Over the coming weeks the summer species should continue to keep us occupied, September approaches we should see the thorn-back rays picking up in numbers again. these will be mostly small fish at first but the stamp; should increase as the autumn progresses. There’s plenty of time for bass and hounds as yet but it wont be long until we start thinking about cod. After seeing a few more this spring hopes will be high that the blackwater estuary and beyond will be productive again throughout the winter.
I have a few spaces left in august and September, I keep my calendar and last minute bookings up to date on here but for more information, weekly reports and availability please visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk or call 07956411528

  • 01/08/2018 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

1 Aug 2018 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Hi everybody this is a message from Terry and Nicola of the Vanishing Point-2
It is with sadness but not regret we announce our retirement from the fishing world.
We would like to thank all of our customers over a 30 year period of fishing with us and your loyalty.
But we feel now is the time to gracefully step aside and recall all the happy memories we have made from the
Vicky Emma, Cacheflow, vanishing Point 1, and finally Vanishing Point-2 the pride of the fleet.

Nicola and I hope we have given many of you memorable days out fishing and shooting and lots of you have had your personal bests with us.
From my point of view, I will miss the fishing, and the boating side of chartering, but I won’t miss the stress that we were experiencing from mostly overseas anglers... don’t get me wrong some of our overseas anglers Were a joy to have on the boat but others were quite honestly a nightmare which I grew to dread driving to the boat that’s when I knew it was time for me to go.
So to all our friends of many years it’s farewell from Nicola and myself and we wish you all the best in your new fishing adventures with new skippers Philip White on Chinnock 3 out of bradwell on Sea is a very experienced chartered skipper has a lovely boat and you wouldn’t go far wrong from giving him a ring to try to book your fishing charters.
    All the best guys
    Terry and Nicola

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Bringing us up to date been extremely hot weather has put the fish off a little bit on the weaker tides. Mackerel have been patchy along with only one tope run so far very poor for this time of year but see what august brings. Nice few bass all returned of course due to the ban, biggest just under 9lb not quite double figure. Plenty of smoothounds best bait by far is peeler but still waiting for our hen crabs to moult been so strange the weather and how its affected everything. Still catching whitting on the inside on worm baits they dont seem to go away now have completely lost the spotty dogs now bit of a relief really to be honest. Odd thornback still coming in so mixed sport all round really. Picture today is of Anthony down on hoilday with decent bass of 8.5lb pb for him well done. Looking forward to August Monday 6th where we have a specialist tope trip £65 per head few places still available tide is perfect thats why date is chosen hope weather plays ball. Will organise few night trips if you want to go on the list please email or text will get first refusal picking tides so slack water is middle of the session to give you best fishing up or down the tide. Leave about 6pm home midnight so you can go to work next day ! Thats about it got a windy weekend ahead will see what happens. Until then tight lines everyone.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Keeping you up to date july 4th 2018 started off with the feathers usual hundreds of sandeels odd gurnard few small flatties. only half dozen mackerel still bit thin on the ground water seems to be clearing on about the ten mile mark. Had a quick go for tope one small run amounted to nothing. Decided to head inshore picking up few smoothounds and one skate pictured here today with holidaymakers Loius and Rebecca first time out on High Flyer 2. Decided with easterly wind pressing to head home and catch last few ours up north beach for few more smoothys cant complain about the day with a east blowing as well could of done with few more but isnt that always the case! Big thanks to everyone for the day and thanks to Ian and James for washing down very much appreciated. Hope to see you all soon. Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Report right up to date last trip 26th June Tuesday 2018, started off on the feathers lots of sandeels on the banks few gurnard and odd flatty. Had dozen or so mackerel lets hope its the start of them! Jumped over few wrecks no cod just odd coaley to our surprise usual pouting and whiting water not great viz yet on 15 mile mark. Ended up the day on inshore mark to produce couple small bass and cracking smoothound of 17lb 3oz pictured here caught by Gordon Popplewell using ragworm uptiding. Fish stayed deep till the end thought it was a tope to start when she surfaced. Lovely fish good weight for our area best we have had onboard our vessel so new record for us and a PB for Gordon. Released unharmed well done Gordon be a hard fish to beat for our area.
So looking ahead will be advertising few specialist tope trips soon as they appear also our night trips 6pm till midnight keep eye out for them also on Facebook under High Flyer Sea Fishing Trips too, until then tight lines people.
    Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)
