Inset photo of a 16 lbs Thornback Ray caught yesterday..... and returned alive to have her young.....!!! it was one of 50 Rays caught yesterday (7/4/18)
Next Sunday has just been cancelled annoyingly...!!! so if you fancy a tip ..... call me..

Hi folks sorry for not keeping up to date but there has been a great deal going on ,we managed to get out between the 22nd and the 26th of march after such a long time owing to terrible weather We contacted a few skate and some nice whiting but not as many as hoped so after cancelling the Friday due to being a poor forecast we went to sea sat with all hopes we did get some skate and yet again some nice whiting but our group had been on the booze the night prior and there attention span was severely hampered due to the alcohol and on seeing what they were putting on for bait ie Chorizo half a herring on one hook and smelly bait on the other we did not stand a chance Our next trip we decided to go further out down the mouse and managed to land on some nice skate to around 9lb so our plan Monday was push down further we ended up at the lower end of the burrows,it was a bit quiet until the flood tide and then it was all systems go but due to the lads wanting to be home by a certain time we cut the trip short but all the boys were happy. Hopefully after the next set of big tides we will get them closer to home (sorry for the war and peace write up) so until our next report tight lines and calm conditions

Well the fishing drought is over, as the usual; marks start to produce fish once again, and in good numbers..!!!
We fished off-shore on Sunday with a new party for us, a chap called Larry organised the trip (you can read his revue) although it was lovely to see the boys, it was tainted with a little sadness that we only got the party because one of our other top skippers has recently passed away...... Lester Baker who run a very nice boat out of Brightlingsea called Sea-Watch.
But life goes on, and I think Lester would have been proud of his lads not only were they a fantastic crew, but the banter never stopped from start to finish and once they got stuck into the fish they landed 42 good Thornback Rays up to 13 lbs so very busy most of the day, and they brought enough bacon, sausages, and burgers to sink a battleship...lol but with the weather being flat calm it was a most enjoyable day...!!! and the boys got off the Vanishing Point about a stone heavier than they got on.... ha ha ha ..!! we will see you on the next adventure lads with Terry Batt Sports Charters..!!

Lots of cod being caught comercialy but are full of herring and up in the water at the moment with just the odd one coming to the rods, luckly the thornbacks have set in and kept us very busy this weekend with some very nice double figure fish, springs on its way hopefully we may get a week or two on the cods before they disapear, Tight lines chris ��

Bringing us up to date we have seen a small influx of codling in recent week the downside now hit by 40mph plus easterly winds with everyone snowed in now! Hoping this cold snap will bring few more fish in on a normal year this month would be spring codling run follwed by the spotty dogs turning up mid to late March then April the start of skate when spring arrives. All we can do see what occurs the better times are just around the corner roll on the smoothounds! Website up to date for those wanting to plan any trips, this year we have been asked to do more tope specials so we will keep eye out for them mid june onwards rule of thumb. Lost out on night trips last year the wind just didnt play ball lets hope for a better season with the jet stream hopefully going the right way for once and all that cable work finished putting a spanner in the works i am looking forward to a better season. Boats been out the water for 5 weeks had lots of work dun refurbish lots of bits to make it better for the anglers etc .back in now ready for the skate etc taking bookings now hopefully weather will stay nice and let us get out on the banks.

After a 4 week lay up with a major refurbish of the engine room and engine boat is back on mooring so lets hope the gods are starting to give as better weather than what we have just been through so till our next report good luck and tight lines
