Here come the summer fish !
View Boats Page
The weather has been lovely over the last fortnight and this has allowed the charter boats to get out regularly where we have enjoyed some excellent sport on the thornbacks.
Inshore
The fishing inshore has been superb with big numbers of thornbacks showing, best reported at around 16 lb, these bigger female rays are full of eggs and should be returned alive to protect stocks. There are also lots of the smaller male thornbacks around and numbers seem to be increasing every year. Best baits are herring, mackerel, squid and any other fish baits available. Don't forget to use a big strong hook and strong trace of at least 40 lb breaking strain.
There are a few bass starting to show with quite a few caught over this weekend, best reported at around 8 lb, again best baits are the same as for the thornbacks but the bass also love crab and worm baits.
There are a few small smoothounds starting to show, these early male fish will take squid baits but their favourite is hermit and peeler crab, the bigger female hounds will start to show around mid May.
There are a few dogfish and good whiting still around although the whiting will soon move off.
There have been some big stingrays caught from the beach marks, these hard fighting rays should be handled with care, their stinger under the tail can be deadly, best baits are ragworm, squid and crab, these fish taste horrible and should be returned alive.
Offshore
The offshore marks have been producing good numbers of thornbacks and dogfish, however as the water starts to warm there are increasing numbers of small smoothies and bass showing, all these species can be caught on squid baits this time of year but when the bigger smoothies turn up they will prefer crab baits.
There have been some cracking spurdogs showing with reports of fish up to 20 lb, these hard fighting mini sharks tend to stay well offshore outside of the sandbanks but can be caught in big numbers if found, best baits are squid and mackerel, tackle needs to be strong as if you are tope fishing, watch out for the spikes behind their fins.
Prospects are excellent, it's that time of year when you never know what you might catch, very exciting.

had to stay inshore and make the most of it. Headed north of yarmouth to little group of holes i like spotty dogs from the start and still the dreaded whiting, and after seeing in the first hour of the ebb decided to move the weed just killing us. Headed back south again much calmer too, first skate came in to Tristan (Stevanage) weighed 7.5lb next one followed to Mike of 10.7lb (Wisbech) returned fish not to be out dione mate Micky (Hertfordshire) with just over6lb also returned and first timer Dale (Local) with his first skate ever of 8.5lb and lastly Will Duncan local regular with todays biggest 11.11lb also returned pictured here on todays report. Spotty dogs and whting throughout the day no smoothies for us today or flatties wasnt too bad for a windy old day lucky for us wind with tide!
Would like to thank everyone today for coming out on the High Flyer especially those making the long journey also the two girls onboard first timer Emma and regular Tess for putting up with our male banter!
Nice to see few skate making a show also nice to see conservation of fish well done to the lads for returning them. Top marks. Until next time tight lines everyone.
PS. Camera picture has last years 2016 date on as i am a useless numpty but has now been amended!!!!UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD High Flyer 2

Boat Record Smashed Twice In One Day !
View Boats Page
Out again on Lead Us Saturday 22nd found heading back to grounds that had produced earlier in the week. With a crew of 4 on board including two young lads Kacey and Lewis on their first trip angling on a boat and what a day it turned out for them, once we had settled into position it was the steady stream of doggies and whiting which continued throughout the day with the odd smoothound thrown in for good measure. Lewis was the first to hook into a ray a nice Thornback at a respectable 7lbs and his biggest sea fish, graham next with a smaller Thornback things were looking good. Then Lewis was into something and it was obvious it was big and took some getting off the bottom as it appeared on the surface a very big Thornback i didn't think it would fit in the net. Once on board and weighed at 12lb smashing the boat record by nearly 2lbs making a very happy Lewis. slack water arrived and things slowed down with the odd whiting coming in as the tide started again graham picked up a Blonde Ray a first for the boat. With the weather worsening and the wind blowing the boat all over the place and everyone just dropping their baits over the side Kacey's rod nearly disappeared over the side as i grabbed it i knew there was something big on the and handed it back for Kacey to bring in once on board another very big fish which caused some debate between the boys as to whose was the biggest but the scales proved Kacey's fish was the biggest at just over 12.25lbs breaking the boat record again and his biggest ever sea fish. At this point with the weather worsening we headed in with two very happy boys and a good day had by all.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Lead Us

Report on-board Lead Us
Out yesterday the first trip out in the new Lead Us with a stiff north westerly blowing headed up to familiar grounds under the shelter of the cliffs of Corton. Once we had the anchor set it was fish form the off with plenty of good sized doggies and nice whiting . Decide to have a move closer inshore as the wind picked up this were much the same with a fish most cast then Nigel managed to pick up a nice 6lb thornback ray his first ever ray so he was very happy

All in all a very good day with plenty of fish for all surprised to see the whiting still full of row at this time of year
