    Report on-board Lead Us

For those of you wondering about my absence and lack of reports over the last few months. I thought it was time to give you all an update on my activities here at Lead Us Charters. As you can see from the photos the new incarnation of Lead Us arrived on a cold wet November morning and over the winter with a lot of hard work and the much appreciated help of friends has been transformed into a lovely looking boat. Although the same length the new Lead Us is 2ft 6in wider in the beam and boasts a massive deck space almost 13ft x 10ft behind the engine box plus extra up the sides. This will provide more space, more comfort and stability and the ability to take more people. Lead Us is now nearing completion and will be very soon back in the water and operational again. Looking forward to catching up with all my old and new customers, bookings now being taken for Easter onwards

For more info or to book call 07803270798
    Thanks Colin

  • 19/03/2017 Fishing Report by Phil White on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

    Report on-board Chinook 3

The last fortnight has seen a big influx of thornback rays into all the inshore areas in the Thames Estuary. These fish are early this year but with the lack of cod they are very welcome.

We are starting to see some big female rays with one reported at 20 lb last week, the best we saw on Saturday was a whopper caught by Peter Hudson at 16 lb. Not only was this his best thronback but his biggest ever fish. All the females are carrying eggs and should be returned alive.

Best baits are herring, squid, mackerel and most other fishy baits, remember to use heavy traces and strong hooks as the trace quite often gets caught around their spines and tail.

The piers and shore marks are fishing well for thornbacks, whiting and dabs with the bigger tides best, mid flood to mid ebb usually. Quite often this time of year you see some different species like gurnards or other flatties.

Offshore has been good for thornbacks, whiting and dabs with some dogfish turning up, best baits are squid and herring although if you want a chance of a spurdog then mackerel is very good as well. These hard fighting sharks give good sport and are protected so should be returned alive. They can grow up to 25 lb or so

Prospects are excellent, there will be some spurdogs turning up in a few offshore places soon, lots more thornbacks and odd bass.

    Report on-board Girl Mandy

Just to put certain facts straight we are out as much as we can and only loose a few trips due to bad weather but i cant see the point in going on and on about whose boat is best at nearly 13 ton in weight we can hold our own in most weather so size does not matter all the time we may not be the fastest but a track record of nearly 48 years in the job i dont need to bullshit we are all trying to do a job. Fishing has improved and a good amount of double figure skate coming to the net plus our friends the dogfish have made a show along with some good whiting but alas no cod We have a few good tides left so get your gear and get out here men and ladies

With fishing picking up nicely now, and the finest charter boat in the fleet that gets out when most other cannot due to wind....!
There are some really nice big Thornbacks Rays coming out at the moment, so well worth a trip to put a good bend back in those rods that have been put away all winter.

Not forgetting on the Vanishing Point-2 we do clay pigeon shooting for those more competitive groups, and is also a lot of fun.

    WERE BACK
seeng as the cod fishing failed to materialise this winter we decided to pull the boat out and have a proper clean up and add some more gadgets!!
a new five year codeing has been issued ensuring she is fully compliant and is fully up to date with all safety an life saving equipment
refurbished propellors and a sqeaky clean hull will ensure a fast ride out to those offshore banks
looking forward to the summer now and those big smoothounds and the plaice and turbot fishery we only just
scratched the surface of last year
our first trip this weekend produced over 50 skate for one of our regular crews !!! no monsters but a lot of fun after 3 months ashore ! as the days grow longer and the water warms we should see plenty more and the big girls
