10 Oct 2016 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well just got back from today's charter and over the last 3 days we have landed 142 Thornback's, with a large percentage returned and some taken for the table...
Today's party started the day with a clay shooting competition so by the time the shooting was done, the ebb tide had just got away.. that saved an hour of sitting there with little to no fish as the tides are so small at the moment it takes an age to run..! and usually it's no tide run, little to no fish.
But once we got on our fishing mark we got a couple of fish almost right away, then nothing..?? so I pulled the anchor and guided the boat just 350 yards East, just up the bank a bit, and then we were off...!! another 30 Roker followed during the rest of the day... the lads we very focused and given the lack of tide, they missed very few opportunities.. which can make the difference between a good day and a not so good day...
Of course we had umpteen LSD's and Whiting, to fill in the gaps, but all in all, a very nice little day, with nice people..
Only heard of one Cod being caught from a local boat, so nothing to get excited about yet....! with the water temperature today still tipping the scales at 15.8 degrees I think it will be another couple of weeks before we will actively start trying to sell Cod trips, I am not sending out false hopes when I know you will be disappointed, as the old saying goes, One swallow doesn't make a summer...
and One Cod doesn't mean they are here...
All the Blackwater based boats are fishing quite well at the moment.... Phil White on Chinook II from my port of Bradwell has returned with some good catches, as has Chris Mole on Enterprise out of West Mersea, Lee Bollingbrock and Lester both from Brightlingsea all catching well.
In the coming weeks I expect to see a larger presence in the River Blackwater and through to the Wallet our colleges from the River Crouch, coming to join us on our home fishing grounds to seek out the winter Cod... so lets hope they turn up in good number and we all work together to give our parties some great days sport..!! look forward to seeing you guys again..!!
OK having both engines undergoing major service over the next two days, so back out on Friday.
    Tight lines & Hot guns...!!!!

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Well summers gone looking forward to snow and ice with hot soups on the go and hopefully those lovely cod turning up for us thats what winters all about in my book! Few skate at the moment showing up as they do for about a month here, plenty of whiting i,m afraid some crackers among them to be honest. Few spotty dogs and the odd smoothound still coming in will be glad to see them go so we know the water temperature will have dropped letting our cod friends come in still bit warm at the mo. Reports of codling not too far away facebook pictures telling the stories unfortunately none for us as yet but i think after a few frosts and you can feel that nip in the air now at night it wont be long now. Keep an eye on our evening trips that we will be running for night cod fishing inshore or if you have a party and want to organise get in touch for best tides. I say this every year and get bored of it but think ahead for trips if you need a weekend still places available but soon as the first cod appear bookings go ballistic and you cant always get on at the weekends. New set of Akios reels onboard and new GX2 boat rods next week looking forward to using them , trips still same price £45 per person using your own tackle add £5 using our gear covers losses/replacement. All bait supplied but for this year due to worm costs i would say bring a handfull for yourself if you wish to use lug all day unfortunately with free lug people seem to make huge great baits waste alot and spoil it for others shame really. So looking forward to start of the cod season hopefully see you soon stocking up on the coup of soups!! Tight lines .

  • 10/10/2016 Fishing Report by Phil White on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

10 Oct 2016 by Phil White

    Report on-board Chinook 3

The weather has really changed this last week and this has brought the sea temperature down considerably.

    Inshore
There are a lot more thornbacks showing up over the last few days in all areas inshore, these smaller rays will be with us through until at least January depending on water temperature, best baits are squid and herring.

The whiting have really pushed in to all areas and there are increasing numbers of better fish showing up, these tasty fish will provide good sport right through the Autumn and Winter, best baits are lug and mackerel.

The piers and Estuaries are producing whiting, thornbacks and schoolies with the occasional oddities like wrasse and gurnards from the piers. Best baits are rag, lug and squid.

    Offshore
When the weather has allowed, the fishing has been excellent with a real good mix of fish on the offshore banks throughout September. There have been some good smoothounds up to 10 lb, thornbacks, bass, dabs, small tope, whiting and a few other species.

Prospects are excellent, hopefully we should start to see some cod as we get nearer November, more thornbacks and whiting.

  • 25/09/2016 Fishing Report by Ray Martin on PLAN B (Southend-On-Sea, Essex)

    Report on-board PLAN B

Having a real treat when the weather is kind.
Friday we got to my favourite hound spot but weed was a problem , we moved a few times and found the weed was not so bad closer in, the hounds bass and skate soon appeared and remained pretty much all day.
Best hound was 18lb loads snapped off.
Sunday was windy but we managed a few hours on the same mark. Hounds again to 14lb and as the tide dropped we saw gulls working so had a go and found bass and mackerel.

To all fellow skippers be aware of another arse that thinks its funny to book up as three individuals and then not bother to show up his name is ( David phone number 07754828930 ) and then to not answer the phone or texts i think people that do this should be taken to court and fined then they would feel how it is to loose money. And apologies to Jay that had his group either not going or having to pay a bit more we did a deal instead of the full amount but he was not happy even to the point he blamed me for the other group. We have a business to run Jay and if we went to work for no money it would not take long to go bust once again the arseholes name is ( David 07754828930 ) you are now in the black book and hopefully not be able to rip other skippers off

  • 09/2016 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Sep 2016 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

Yet again it has been far too long since my last report on here so I must apologise. It has been a busy summer aboard the ‘Galloper’ with some good fishing and weather to match it meaning we had to cancel very few trips. The main target of our summer trips have been the smooth-hounds which were around in good numbers and decent size yet again. the bass were in good numbers in the blackwater estuary its self. This occupied us on many evening trips and provided some great sport on light tackle. There were vast numbers of undersized bass in here and on most occasions a few decent fish too. Once the water had warmed up the rays and dogfish moved further offshore for the summer. We didn’t spend a lot of time fishing for them through out the summer months as the hounds were such good sport. now the summer species are on their way out we have turned our attention back to the thorn-back rays and thankfully they have started to move back in on numbers. Last weekend was quite windy which is when the blackwater comes in to its own. Many of the boats sought shelter in the estuary its self and were rewarded with some respectable catches. My party had 14 aboard the ‘Galloper’ on Sunday but some of the other charter boats had getting on for 30 rays. along with thorn-back rays several other species came out of the estuary over the weekend such as whiting, dogfish, silver eel, bass and gurnard. Ive no doubt over the coming months we will be back in the estuary which (as I often bang on about) is one of our biggest assets. The sheltered fishing it provides often saves a cancelled trip and the fuss of trying to re-organise so if your cancelled else where then it can be worth calling one of the mersea, bradwell or brightlingsea boats. We should see some cod mixed in too over the next few months both in the blackwater and further afield on our usual marks. I write regular reports on my website and Facebook page and the calendar is usually as up to date as It can be.
