lots of better hounds about now with a few bass to keep us fretting about the new law and letting them go !! Hermit crab is the killer bait , everything else pales in comparison ... frozen or fresh they will get you the hounds and bass.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Forcast of no wind today along with the strong tides seemed a good day for bass so headed out on the 5 miler bank to see what would occur. Decided to have a rest bite for couple of hours inside to burn the strongest of the tide out bit of a slow start few spotty dogs and whiting, moved again further down when few smootheys appeared . Eventually got to our mark, straight away the rods dipped me thinking bass reality another smoothound! Few nice few fish giving good fights in the strong tide , also a skate came aboard but unfortunately no bass. Was surrounded by couple of long liners which didnt help but there you go, pictured today was paul layton with best one of the day, ended up with the wind increasing out of nowhere ,wind against tide making it quite choppy so back inside for much of the same fish. was a enjoyable day big thanks to 3 newbies on the boat, steve from Southend, and Derek and Martin from London all good banter hopefully see you all again at some point. Also thanks to regulars Paul and Barry and Pete shame about the bass but the liners never had any either so obviously nott there today. Heres to next time.
    Cheers Jon. (high Flyer)

    Stop press...!!!

The clay pigeon shooting is going very well now we have shooting clubs enquiring now just too book up either a whole day, or half a days shooting, as people who like clay shooting are finding, shooting from a floating platform and a moving clay trap is quite challenging.....

This is proving very popular with the corporate market as team building events, (which is tax deductible)

So if you fancy trying you hand at clay pigeon shooting either as part of you fishing trip, or as a corporate day

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Ok...... I got several calls yesterday to say that various anglers had been fishing either on their own boats and caught next to ZERO... all day, and were desperate to get something for their fishing buddies.

Me and Nic, were on our way out an 4.pm yesterday afternoon just to attend to our crab pot, as we had it lifted last week, empted and thrown back in again 1/2 a mile from where I put it so it took us over a week to locate it, we thought we had lost it forever, but at least we got it back..... I digress... but it was on our way out late afternoon yesterday some angler saw the Vanishing Point-2 and called me for some help... and we always help any small boat fisherman where we can, as I am sure any of them reading this will endorse, so when we find our crab pot raided and there is nothing left for us it hurts a bit.. but there you go..

Several of our guys were out on charters with others as we were not out yesterday and called me to say it was a mega tough day with very little caught, I am sure it was a hard day as the wind was in the Eastern quarter and as we all know when the wind is in the east the fish bite the least..!!!

So on the way back from attending to our hermit crab pot, Nic and I decided to have a quick fish on a mark for whatever reason seem unaffected by Easterly winds, as we approached the area I found a 14 foot fishing boat right slap bang on one of my marks, it was so close I couldn't help myself I went very close to where he was just to see, I reckon he had his anchor in the last hole I made there at the weekend....lol but I wasn't going to fish there anyway he was too far East and South, so we got to where we wanted to be, Nic shot the anchor away and we were settled, and fished one rod each for 40 minutes as that's all the time we had, but after such abysmal reports I need to know if these fish were still there,

Well Nicola kick off the proceedings within 10 minutes , with a nice 8 lbs female Thornback Ray, then I hit in to a nice male at 9 lbs , and while I was unhooking my fish, Nic was into another Ray so I left my one to net her fish another Ray about 7 lbs, so as we had two fish on deck we tried to take a selfie as there was no one else on board to take a photo of us, just look what that Easterly wind is doing to my hair !!....lol

We do have a great time no matter what we do even down to potting for hermit crabs we turn it into something special... and why not.!!

But on the serious side of things .... we found out what we needed to know.. the fish were still there if we need to fall back on them, but we will leave them alone if we can get out, to get on other species, but it is just a fall back position if we need it, because love em, or not.... it's better to get good bites, with nice size fish, than sitting there all day staring at a rod tip doing NOTHING...!!!

    Ok guy ... tight lines...!!

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well me and Nicola went to Brighton yesterday with a few of our fishing friends, and had a lovely day out on a charter boat called Brighton Diver II.
Skipper was Paul and his crew for the day was James, a very young man and skipper in his own right at just 18 years old but seemed to know what he was doing.
We went for Black bream first thing, and although I didn't personally get one, My lovely wife kicked my butt, and landed two decent Bream, so well done Nic..!
Some of the other lads also caught a few, but the fish were just not really having it, I must say Paul the skipper did his hardest to find the fish, and to be fair we got one or two every where we went, but he was saying at the weekend in was crazy, and I can well believe him as I put on my week report that Thursday and Friday was terrific fishing but the weekend was ok, but the fish had switched off, yes we got ample but not like it had been the last couple of days..
So I did feel for Paul, as I knew what he was going through, but ever the professional, he pressed on, and they guys got some more Bream, but I changed tactics and put on a running ledger and peeler crab to see what else might live here, as it was all new for me out of Brighton.
After 5 minutes or so I got a thumping bite, and landed a nice Pollock, Em,,, different species for me, really enjoyed the way it ran straight for the bottom, then I had a few small hounds, then Paul fired up the engines which meant rods up..!! we are off.
This was just about an hour and a half before high water, and we were going for what I have personally come for, the Plaice fishing, I had never caught a Plaice before, and my good friend
John Rawle gave me some cracking tips on Plaice fishing which turned out to be as usual spot on, I have several over 5lbs and the other guys did well also..
I think as Paul the skipper said, the fish were more than likely off the feed for a while due to a big weather system going through, we had thunder and lightning, rain, then it all cleared up and the fishing as usual, started getting good towards the end of our day, but being a true professional, he gave us an extra half hour and we all caught very well.... But I kicked Nicolas butt well and truly on the Plaice fishing, and that's what I really wanted... so full marks to skipper Paul, and the Brighton Diver, we will certainly be back for more very soon.
Well we are out on Friday so will be reporting on our catches of the Vanishing point-2......... Tight lines
Ps: just look at Nic's handy work with a filleting knife...!!

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

We now started June looking forward to hopefully better weather after lasts week blow things seem to have stirred up plenty of weed plagued us this weekend but managed few good fish even though we were kept inshore. Best fish was 11lb cod by Pawel picture here doesnt do it justice but he is a huge fella so whos to argue! few skate inside making it interesting now the smootheys starting to show makes my life easier! Lost fantastic fish sunday, never saw it ten to fifteen minutes fight nearly to the surface then broke off your guess is as good as mine. Few small cod hanging around still one good thing the whiting have sort of thinned out so not so many unfortunately been replaced with spotty dogs but good bit of sport. No bass to report of as such as havent fished for them due to the ban, have lost two along side the boat estimated at 8lb and about 5lb in these strong tides this week.

Looking ahead everyone wants mackerel so tope fishing will begin unfortunately our first trip on 18th is full, get your name down with me to get first dibs at next trip or even our night trips which can start soon as people like really now smootheys are in, i think they feed better at night personally. Night trips as we call them are from 6pm till midnight so you can still go to work next day, same costs as regular trip
, we pick tides and days so slack water is around 9pm so you get the best fishing up or down. Get your name down on the list or add friend on facebook either jon old High Flyer or High Flyer Sea Fishing Trips or just text us and email.

So leave it with you glad summers nearly here looking forward to a suntan and mackerel on the barby until then tight lines everyone looking forward to seeing you all soon. Jon (High Flyer)

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Fishing at the weekend was a fair bit slower that the previous three days.

Saturday Were a fine bunch of lads, with some squadies and ex Army personnel, a right laugh, and everyone enjoyed their day as it was a stag do for one of their mates Ail don't want to think how that ended up later that night in Colchester near the barracks..

But the boys fished well and shot well and Hugh won the "Vanishing Point-2 Top Gun" trophy these boys served in Iraqi so well done lads, and they enjoyed the DVD of Jim Davidson in Iraqi entertaining our troops, on their way back to Bradwell.

Sunday....... the strong breeze from the East did take it's toll on the fishing as usual, but the boys fished on and did ok.

The hound fishing was not great in the shallows we had a 9lbs hound on the first cast, and |I thought here we go...!! but that was it for 20 mins, then we had some small hounds around the 3 to 4lbs bracket so we moved into 32 foot just off the edge, and it was fairly busy for the last hour before the high water at 1300.

We then cut across the top of the sands, back into the Blackwater , and once the tide got away we had a quadruple hook up of Skate, this went on for a while until the tide started to ease back, and the wind started blow the boat up the anchor rope...!!! but the day was just about done by then, so we decided to up anchor and start processing the catch,

Me and Nicola are fishing out of Brighton tomorrow not sure which boat we are on???, but the target species is Plaice and Black Bream.... so fingers crossed, it will make a nice change to just fish ourselves and let another skipper do the work....lol

Ok guys catch you later............ Tight lines & Hot Guns...!!

    Report on-board Galloper

its been a while since my last report on here so i thought i'd update you all. as ive no doubt you've gathered from the other reports on here we have had a great run of thorn-back rays again this spring. these fish can provide great sport and a decent feed so they are always a welcome. over the last few weeks we have seen the arrival of the summer species with a few bass and smooth-hounds mixed in too which makes things a little more interesting. we had our first try for some decent hounds the other week and weren't disappointing. it was a steady mornings fishing with some nice fish in the 8-10lbs range showing. there were a few smaller than this and one or two bigger at 12lbs for stephen and 15.3lbs for martin. we moved closer to home for some thorn-back rays for the afternoon and had a mixture of bass and hounds too. we finished the day up with 30 odd hounds as well as several bass and a few roker so were all happy. when this weather abates (which it will) then we will be targeting the hounds again and at some point targeting tope too. even if it doesn't though there's some good fishing to be had in the more sheltered waters for the rays.
this weekend i hope to target the smooth-hounds at some point along with the rays and maybe find a bass or two. i happen to have spaces saturday and possible sunday too if your interested please call me.
i update my website and facebook pages regularly so for more information, available dates and reports please visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk or call 07956411528
