Report on-board Vanishing Point-2
With the wind blowing Northerly at 30 mph most of the day, we took our charter party along the coast to a place just off of Clacton on sea, and stayed within half a mile of the beach.

We are very fortunate to have a lot of protection from most prevailing winds so we don't have to cancel too many trips to the weather.
Well we got to our fishing mark in just over 25 minutes, travelling at 22 knots ,once Nicola shot the anchor away and we settled we had the first Thornback Ray hooked up, a nice fish at just over 9 lbs.
As we were landing the first fish and taking out the hook, a second fish was wrenching the rod hard over..!! a nice fish again at 12 lbs, so the competition was on...lol
The wind was relentless and kept at a steady 28-30 mph all day, but the fish just kept on coming, by the end of the day, between the 6 anglers on board, they managed to land around 30 Thornback Rays, we didn't see anything else, but we really didn't have bait for anything else, but a good friend of mine, and skipper of the Chinook 3 Phil White wisely took some Hermit crabs, and he called me to say they had just landed an 8lbs Smoothound, and he was fishing just a short distance from me.... then he had another hound, so nice to see hounds this far inshore.... Well done Phil, good job...!!
It looks as if the winds are stuck in this North sector for the time being, but with a good run of fish to be had close in I doubt we will lose any trips.
We have a group of gentlemen on the boat Saturday, on a Pre-wedding event...(Stag Do) and they want fishing and clay pigeon shooting, so even if the wind blows, we will still be catching fish, and busting clays.
Bass are all around at the moment, we had one take a piece of Herring the other day, a decent little fellow, at around 4 lbs, but as you all know, we cant keep them so back it had to go....!! but as of the 1st July you will be allowed to take one each...... I know, tough isn't it... but rules is rules even if we don't agree with them, but make no mistake about it.... if you do sneak one in your box without the skippers knowledge, and you get caught, it will be a £9,000.00 fine, so best don't do it..!!!!
Ok I will leave it there for now, and report back after Fridays charter, you can go to my Face Book page terry batt fishing and see all photos....... Tight lines...!! -

Hello yet again bad rumours, i m just about getting cheesed off regarding the slagging off by petty idiots from the crouch if they read this they will know who i am talking about. Our vessel is one of the easiest to get aboard there is no climbing ladders rails or long walks from car parks if i tell you that it is easy to get on then i dont have to lie but when i get feedback regarding my business then whoever it is will get a rude awakening we are not the fastest boat in the fleet but thats the way we like it iam sure 49 years in the job speak for itself as for comfort we can shelter our anglers in our cabin and wheelhouse but when the question of disabled anglers are concerned then please speak to me first as i can then let you have contacts that fish with us (of which some are disabled) tell you how easy it is to go for a days fishing with us, sorry for a report like this but Matt and myself have had enough and harsh words will follow if we do find the culprit Trev / Matt -

Well its end of the month again hopefully the fishing improving in june should see some early mackerel bit offshore now , our first tope trip on 18th so looking forward to that. Been catching few skate as you can see, spotty dogs about pain at times but there fish! Only small smoothounds for us lately the biggies should start making an appearance shortly great sport. Our bass ban is still on this month so i havent bothered fishing for them as it seems just to cause trouble under no circumstances will we be bringing any back unfortunately some people think their above the law, it is there for our future good. Weather and winds have been stupid again just unbelievable hope they disappear soon getting ridiculous north east 30 mph doesnt give anyone a chance to get out.

Amazing fishing despite the weather blowing North east 25 mph Friday and much the same Saturday but a slight change to the north north east Sunday plenty of skate Friday close to home with a crowd from London complete novices but they managed to get the hang of it by the end of the day , Saturday a trip down river produced 20 smooth hounds to 10 lb plus a good amount of skate to 11 lb but they brought their own squid and it was as pink as a girls blouse lol. Sunday a far better day 30 hounds to 14.11 lbs and 6 skate to 13 lb that we did manage to coax on herring as yet again the squid was dire lucky we had some hermits that saved the day well done lads hope to see you again in the future

As the day starts to settle down and the sea birds are coming in for the evening roost we have had bird enthusiast so excited at some of the species they have spotted as we come in for a days fishing charter, and it was suggest to us that we have a resource on our doorstep that we are not making use of.

Well we had a good friend of our on the boat Tuesday, James R Hearn, not only is James a great fisherman, he is a fantastic singer regularly seen at Potters leisure in Hopton on Sea, but sometimes on tour with the European Rat Pack show as Dean Martin... fabulous..!!
View Boats Page
But back to fishing, James brought a lovely bunch of guys with him on Tuesday, it was his birthday treat ..!!
ans we didn't stop laughing from start to finish and with the wind blowing at 23 mph Northerly we couldn't get to the Smoothounds sadly, but love em or not we had a splendid day on the Thornback Rays many into double figures, we had over 30 fish boated, and a select few were kept for the table and others returned to have their young and fight another day.
A few Bass are showing up now, even though we are not allowed to keep any so they all go back alive, but they still make great sport and I think personal satisfaction when you land one of the hardest fish to land, because if you, or your tackle are not up to it, chances are you will come second and lose it, so yeah... I think Bass even though at the moment are not keep-able, they still are well worth fishing for, and it will hone your fishing skills. so when the 1st July comes, and you are allowed to keep one Bass each, you will be ready for
them.
As you can see if you have looked at the videos, the Clay shooting is picking up pace now, and we are seeing some real talent on the gun, but it does not have to be serious, it's a goon social addition to the day out, you don't have to be at Olympic standard...lol if you hit 11 or 12 clays most times that will be in the running for the TOP GUN trophy or a silver or bronze medal, but take a look and see for yourself.
We do have bank holiday Monday available if anyone want to come out and try out the facilities, so if you call us on ...07768306646 we will get you in the diary....... Tight lines..!! . -

Fishing Report by LESTER BAKER
on Seawatch1 (Brightlingsea, Essex)
May 2016 by LESTER BAKER
Report on-board Seawatch1
Although already well documented by other boats in our area at last there is something to report that does not include the plague of Thornback rays we have had in the Thames estuary for the last eight weeks.Joking apart the ray fishing has been spectacular again this spring with 50 fish normal and a hundred plus not that unusual, best baits have been squid and herring with the herring having the edge on most days.As most of you know the spring cod run was a non event in our area this year so the rays provided some very welcome sport for our anglers.
View Boats Page
The last week or two has seen the weather warming up and the summer species have started to feature more in the daily catches with some excellent Bass and Hounds,no monsters yet on Seawatch but several bass to low doubles on worm and peeler baits and some medium hounds up to 12lbs on hermit crabs and squid, one of the Bradwell boats reporting some larger hounds slightly further offshore so they are on the way..
There have also been some reports in the last few days of some early Mackerel which everyone enjoys catching and will hopefully help with bait for the Tope trips we have booked next month.
All in all a great time to be fishing in the Thames estuary with some great mixed fishing on offer.
Good fishing and all the best,Lester
