Well after not finding very big Smoothounds yesterday the hunt was on in earnest today...
View Boats Page
We set sail at 0700 hrs and a new course set to try a bit of ground not often fished by our boats,
After and hour and ten minutes we reached our destination..!! I took one look at the water and said to Nicola.... today we hit the big ones... and as the tide got away the first fish up was a ......... doggie, not what I planed for, but all rods were baited and holding bottom when Bob's rod bent hard over in the rod holder, and the fight was on, the first real hound of the day, we had around 30 hound in various sizes from 5- 14lbs ..
As the tide eased away and the hounds went off, I suggested the lads use squid to see if there were any Thornback Rays living .here, and after 20 minutes, terry landed a 9 lbs Ray followed by a 10 lbs Ray then several more before the tide finally stopped... then it was time to hit the road , pick up our pot to replenish out hermit crab stock that got hit real hard today, ready to do it all again tomorrow, we are also putting two Tope rods out tomorrow as the big Tope usually run along side the big Hounds... so we will see in the morning, with a good weather forecast, and great tide confidence is high.....!!!
By the way we still have Sunday 29th May (Bank Holiday) whole boat available if anyone is interested, today's party booked the Saturday 28th on the strength of today's fantastic fishing... first come, first served..!! Tight lines !!...... -

Sunday 15th May..... really excited as we had our good friend Troy Botterell on the boat with his crew... always a great laugh. we started off picking up our pot for hermit crabs so we would have our Smoothound bait for the day...... so once the crabs had been lifted and stowed we set off to our first stop the tide was just starting to turn for the ebb tide, and with expectations high we had a few dogfish to kick off with, then I caught our first Hound of the season... well I say hound.. pup really then Peter had a hound about the same stamp... then Paul Kitley had a tremendous take, a real rod bender..!! he wound down on to the fish, had the thing on for a few seconds.... then bang, it was off, the hook came in stripped of bait... so we fished on for an hour or so but very little came up so I decide to make a move Eastward by quite a few miles into deep water, and again we had dogs some hounds, and \Barry was catching Roker, so after a good while we spent the last hour South of where we were and fish the tide out a better stamp of Smoothound fell to Peters rod, and more Skate... so we came to slack water when we decided to set up for the Clay Pigeon shooting.... well what a hot shoot-out it was, Troy started the proceedings, with a respectable score,

(always hard when you go first) but still a good score, then the pace got hotter as Peter, Paul, then Tony took their turn... but then Barry took the shot gun and showed us all how to do it, he was on fire...!!! half way through we even for the first time used the oscillating table, well Paul didn't miss one, once we made it harder... he is an awesome clay shooter cant wait to see how the next trip turns out..!!!
After the Shooting we made our way back 10 miles or there about's, the tide was now flooding, so as it was such a lovely day we decided to stop and fish for another hour and a bit, and I know some call then BAG |FISH but yes we fished for Roker, but this time the bigger variety we had several at 10 lbs, but Peter had a real stonker on and half way into the fight .... Bang..!! it was gone, when he wound in his hook had snapped in half in the curve... oh no cheap hooks...lol but as the guys were fishing for one of our lovely fishing trophies for the biggest fish of the day, I reckon that would have been it.
Oh well, that's fishing the trophy went to Tony, (Photo inset) and everyone had just a great day with fantastic weather...
Look forward to seeing you all next time guys,
Terry & Nicola.... Tight lines...!!! -

Had a cracking day out there today, and fish showing in the most unusual places, and we only found that out because the boys order 300 clays for their Clay shooting for to days trip, and we went to a stretch of water just for flat calm conditions so ended up in 12 feet of water and while the boy that had already shot waited for the others to finish they chucked a few rods over the side, and well....!!! boom..!! double figure fish one after the other I tell you after 30 years of fishing I still get surprises like that, they threw them all back as they had enough from earlier, but still a nice surprise...

The photos are of the medal and trophy winners.. the fish trophy was won with a 12 lbs Thornback Ray...!!
Off Hounding tomorrow, lets hope they wanna play, but I do have a fall back position if it don't happen . Tight lines...!!! -

Well we are heading out on Friday to try to get on the mighty Smoothounds, with a mix of Thornback Rays and perhaps a Bass or two.

We have now put our pot out again to start to harvest hermit crabs, which we all know is the favourite bait for those hard fighting Hounds, so as it's the first drop, we will see how many we get, as it can sometimes take a drop or two to locate these little wandering pieces of gold...lol
Well with squid just about impossible to obtain, due to the world shortage due to the El Nino we have very limited stocks left in our own freezers, so the days of fishing two Rods each with Squid bait is out of the question at the moment, if you have to fish two rods only one can be fished with Squid while we have some, the other one will have to be fished with an alternative bait and might involve an additional cost for a second rod.
A funny situation occurred the other day on Vanishing Point-2.... a group of anglers came on the boat really nice guys, some had our hire rods and equipment, and some had there own, but with a really hard tide running even the guys with there own gear didn't have the right lead weights and asked if they could borrow one of ours,,,,?
well that is no problem, all I ask is at the end of the day they put them back ready for someone else to use.!! but unfortunately one of the guys snapped off on the cast and asked for another 200 gram weight, which we gave him..!!! BUT...!! this is the thing...... when we came to the end of a very successful days fishing with over 50 fish caught, and it was time to settle up, I told matey he owed us another £2.00 for his lost weight, and he didn't agree???? well I said you lost the weight, which was one of ours, if it had been one of your own it means you would have go to a tackle shop like we do and purchase the tackle so if you borrow weights off of us and you lose it, we have to replace it, and the bigger heavier weights are around £2.00 each it's not rocket science, you lose it ... you pay for it..... or am I missing something here???????. but I must say that is a rare thing to happen most offer to pay for lost equipment, and sometimes if I don't consider it was the fault of the angler we don't charge them.....
OK well I will leave it there and let you all know how we do on Friday....
PS: I want to try to arrange a half days Clay shooting only for the boat..!! if there is anyone interested please call 07768306646 with the new all singing a;ll dancing trap now fitted if you think your good best think again.... Medals and trophies for the top Guns.........!! -

We had a full boat yesterday, well I say full, we could have fitted Brad on if he had called back..?? but we went with a party of 9 anglers, after a 17 minute dash from our home port of Bradwell at 22 knots we arrived on a spot I was interested to see if it would produce fish in this big spring tide, ??
View Boats Page
It was a bit slow for the first 20 minutes, when I say slow, NOTHING..!! and as I was beginning to think I had got it wrong, the first rod bent double..!! a nice 11 lbs Roker, and as we netted that, the net was being called for at the bow, so off we went..and it was pretty much non stop, until slack water, then as fast as it started it stopped...
But after an hour of sitting round while my lovely wife Nicola cooked up a host of burgers, sausages, bacon, and dished them out to everyone after a hectic mornings fishing, washed down with a nice cup of tea and coffee, the ebb started to get away....!!
Then we were off again, one after the other.... a great day out with great anglers..... sorry you were not on board Brad, but I hope you had a great day wherever you went, I am sure you did..
Well as I said earlier in the week, we wont be out over the weekend as I am playing music in London and we are stating in the Marriott hotel there so back late Sunday..
We have slots available throughout next week, so if you have any time off and you want to go fishing our Clay shooting... Call:
