strong Easterly winds put the damper on things a bit this weekend, but we stuck it out and were rewarded with bass / hounds and a nice unexpected tope ! all on crab.

A nice double figure hound on Sunday was the best fish of the weekend. The sun shone and everyone went home with a red face and at least 5 hounds each so not so bad in the end.. -

Back home from my holidays now after 3 weeks away, was hoping the weather had improved.. it hasn't. Got both Saturday and Sunday in and had a mixed bag of results. The weed proved a problem in my usual marks so had to move around a lot to avoid it, but the fish came in reasonable numbers. Double figure fish came both days with some very nice skate and hounds.

Sat 4th was booked as a hound fishing trip and it did not dissapoint. With one of our regular crews onboard and a bucket full of prime peeler crab we headed back to a mark fished the previous week. from the off sport was hectic with double, triple and quadruple hook ups. Many of the fish boated were double figure fish and heaviest for the day a shade under 15lb. The vast majority of the fish went back to fight another day, with a few of the smaller males kept by the party for the pot. Tally for the day was 77 hounds ranging from 4lb to 14lb 10oz.

Sun 5th another one of our regular crews and a mixed day of hound and bass fishing was asked for. The bass fishing was slow to be fair but approx 15 bass were boated up to 3.5lb. Again we went to the same spot as the day before for the hounds and again from the moment the hook was in the mud, the fish were obliging. After a couple of hours we started losing the tide and the fish with it. Final tally was 28 hounds biggest for the day a touch over 12lb.

For one reason and another it wasn't conclusive of a good days fishing. The weather started off shite and we took a bit of a battering going over the Whittiker first thing.Across to the Barrows for some Mackerel where, lets just say 'The Sea was interesting'.We ran across NW from there and dropped the Hook.A series of missed bites, lost fish due to line breakages etc saw some smaller hounds and one decent Bass come aboard. As the tide eased we moved off to the south and the 75ft line.Again missed bites and an absolute clonker of a head shaking Bass again saw a line breakage. At low water we drifted and got some Mackerel for the guys to BBQ.We then had a couple more hours of the new flood tide which resulted in a few more smaller Hounds and missed bites.A long day, again nearly 13hrs, but I am not of a mind to do short trips.I believe in giving anglers 'Value for money'.Once you have done the miles and Diesel, it costs no more to do a long day...Only time.

Thanks to the guys for coming today.A real nice bunch of blokes and a pleasure to meet.Looking forward to seeing you all again.
A few days off now for us due to the weather turning crap. -

Today at last after all the wind we have had,we managaed to get Offshore for the Tope.We went....we caught one....Just not a very big one.In all honesty I think it is over for the year.Perfect tide,Bait, area and none there.I am not hearing of any anywhere in the Thames by anyone.I just don't think it is worth the journey and fuel anymore this year.We missed the best of it because of the weather we had.

We still caught plenty of fish, just not Tope.We had Rokers, smaller hounds etc.Plenty of Mackerel this morning once I had found them. They were not where they have been for a week, having moved a couple of miles to the East. The Rokers (Thornback Rays) have now moved offshore and it is pretty much carpeted with them out there on the Tope grounds.Smaller Smoothounds and the odd Bass are on the contours of the Offshore banks with them.
Tomorrow and Sunday we will concentrate on the Hounds and the bigger Bass in the deep water.Lets hope the weather holds out.Next week isn't looking too sharp at all and looking to be back 'Tied up' again. -

An early start today.Leaving the marina a little after 04.30am it was certainly a glorious morning and this time of the year,I consider it to really be the best part of the day.
View Boats Page
Only the 3 of us today as one couldn't make it due to a family problem and one was a 'No Show'.It was a busy old day really. The Mackerel seemed scarce today. No idea why,it just seems to vary from day to day.We got enough for what we wanted anyway.
We put the Hook down where we should of done it yesterday.I always think it helps to go with the banker mark rather than where you think they 'May' be.
From the off we was into Hounds. Not big fish, the biggest around 10lb but plenty of them and it kept the rods nodding.....Along with the weed.
Brian had never been Hound fishing or indeed used Hermits.I think he is now hooked lol
Dan caught well and of course, had to go and spoil it by catching a roker! I think I had one too at one stage lol
At low water I gave the option of what they wanted to do. We decided to go off south a couple of miles and see if we could find a bigger Bass, rather than going up and into the sands for more Hounds on the flood tide. I set the hook in about 14ft of water.I like it here. The water swirls and rushes over a rock hard lumpy bottom.I know Andy likes it here because he has had 3 Double figure Bass with me from this spot. You seem to either get the big ones here or none at all. Today the Bass never wanted to know. The Hounds were playing here though and they go off like Exocet Missiles once they get any inclination things are not right in there crub munching and noshing world lol
Not big fish 6-8lb fish but they fight like Demons here and are great fun to catch at this spot.
All in all another Glorious day with plenty of fish to keep the interest and of course it was Hot,Hot,Hot again!
Day off tomorrow as I need to to do a few bits and to try too grown some new skin on my hands after 4 days on the trot Hound fishing, but out again Friday,Saturday and Sunday.
