Having been fishing in Norway and only getting back late Friday night put me up against it.. I had to get up at 0300 to get the boat ready.. luckily the bait man did not let me down.
Saturday a group managed a haul of around 15-20 skate up to 12lb and around 30 hounds, plus god knows how many dags.. sorry dogs.
Sunday fished a closer mark and had again 15-20 skate best one 10lb and only 3 hounds (ran out of crab) doggies still in big numbers and a load of whiting eating large ragworms meant for bass.
next week I am going bass hunting, should be good as the water is clearing and the crab are about in big numbers....

    What a fantastic day out.

We were a bit early for our trip, but this was no problem to our skipper Stuart. We left as dawn was breaking and cruised for about 45 minutes before reaching our spot. Stuart was friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable as he patiently explained the required techniques for fishing. Most of us were complete novices so we appreciated the input. It only took about 30 minutes for the fish to start biting. My son Mark hooked his first ever dogfish and was elated. Not long after my twelve year old daughter got a large skate, she struggled to hold it for the photo! After that all of us hooked a variety of species and sizes. Whether you are an experienced angler or total newcomers like us I can't recommend this charter highly enough. We all had a fun and memorable day.

    Many thanks Stuart.

Now the winter has finally passed the Spring fishing is picking up nicely.
The last few trips have produced much better fish counts, with Skate and Bass being the main target. 25 to 30 fish are now being caught off each trip and improving daily.
We have had Skate up to 14lb so far and Bass 9lb, all female Bass and Skate are being returned for future conservation.
This year looks set to be a much better year than in the past.
Tope and Smoothound fishing will be coming soon, so get your bookings in.

Easter Saturday started nice and fine, so I opted for a lower estuary mark to try for hounds and skate. Found a nice lot of very small hounds and pesky dog fish. Caught a couple of skate but after a couple of moves decided to try another area.. result 13 good skate.. best 11lb.
Easter Sunday, went straight to the spot the 13 skate came and as usual another day another tide and everything changes.. only had 1 skate and at low water although we were getting a fish a cast decided to go to another spot that fished well last year.. result 15 skate.
Easter Monday, although the wind had picked up a bit from the North went back to the same area and caught skate throughout the whole tide steadily, resulting in around 15-20 skate and numerous dogs and good whiting.
Great weekend, great angling, great company... roll on next weekend. All anglers everyday of the weekend had PB's ...

The Thornback sport is now hectic, with very good numbers of fish well into double figures being landed. The first bass of the season are showing and there are still codling to be had on some marks.

    Briliant weekend.
6 Good skate on Saturday, plus loads of dogs and a small hound. All anglers aboard had personal bests.
12 Good skate on Sunday, not so many dogs and heard of a 12lb hound on a boat nearby (they had devon crab)
Plenty of fish taken in a small area, my mates on the IN-T-Net and SEEKER got the fish as well, didn't hear of much else being caught elsewhere.
Got a supply of fresh hermits starting this week, plus a couple of trawlermen who are promising lots of crinklies and peelers -so look out hounds..
Last year we averaged 30 hounds a trip.. lets hope this year is even better!!
In the picture - one of the anglers on a nice skate.. lovely blue sky, sun shining, it cannot get any better..
