    Report on-board Razorbill 3

Fishing over the weekend was slow with WHITING and DOGFISH the main catch but there are reports of some boats landing COD up to 8lb offshore and numbers of CODLING inshore, The small tides made fishing for THORNBACKS slow , If you anchored on a patch with some on you would get them. With bigger tides this week i think we will see some more THOPRNBACKS caught, These tides should help with the COD fishing as they will move up on to there winter feeding grounds,

The weather was against us again last week, with only one trip out it's hard to say how the fishing is, We are starting to get some good numbers of larg WHITING, DOGFISH, DAB'S and i am glad to say most boats are starting to see one or two CODLING, As the tides drop away i think we will see more (if the weather let's us get out) over the next few weeks,

Another quick update on the recent fishing..
Bit of a mixed bag last few trips.. Dogfish have shown up in large numbers, we are catching about 30 per trip. The hounds have gone, the whiting have started showing and the bass are still about but only a few larger ones the majority are small bait robbers.
Skate are bit thin on the ground, but the ones that are caught are all larger ones.
Cod should show any time now.. cannot wait.

Here's my mate on a nice skate.. just under 10lb..
The wind was blowing hard NW but we hid behind a large sandbank and enjoyed the sunshine and flat calm conditions.. this is the beauty of the Thames Estuary.

Got a few minutes to spare - so time for a quick update on the fishing.
Had a patchy spell last month - August is always a bit quiet. Still managed a nice lot of good bass and hounds.
Had a competition on a wet and windy Friday a couple of weeks ago we had a good mix of fish, bass, hounds, tope, whiting, dogs, pouting and an eel. The following day we struggled to get a bite.. thats fishing !

Plenty of school bass about .. with the odd bigger one if you persevere.

The hounds are disappearing now and the cod will start to show any time soon, the big bass should be about and with the large set of tides this weekend I am expecting a return of the rod benders..

So off we went to a deadcert mark.......... well it should have been a deadcert!!! Off we went again, Third time lucky. As soon as the baits were in we started to get bites, DOGFISH to start then the first of a dozen THORNBACKS and some SMOOTHOUNDS,

    Report on-board Eastern Promise 2

Fished with Derek on 22/7/10 moved 3 times and once again he found the fish. We ended up with a mixed bag, including Bass to 10 pound plus, Thornbacks to 10 pound, Smoothounds, Doggies, a Surprise Cod for July, Mackerel, Pout and whiting The afternoon more than made up for the slow start in the morning. Several fish kept for the pot. A 10 pound 3oz Bass ended up whole on a birthday BBQ another Bass and several doggies went in a smoker. (The smoked doggie was very popular!!!) Another great day out and 7 happy anglers. Thanks Derek. Note In spite of quality rag and hermits onboard the Bass all took fresh Mackerel or whole frozen squid. Smoothounds fell to fresh mackerel or squid. You never can be sure what Bait to use.

Just a quick update as I am always far too busy to get these done!
Fishing over past month has been superb. Most days we are getting 20-30 hounds mostly around the 5-8lb mark and bass of around 2-3lb.
The last two trips have produced larger bass (due to a change of tactics and trying various baits)... Bass like some wierd combinations!
I have tried to avoid catching Roker (thornback ray) but they still keep coming... They will take anything it seems, Rag and squid cocktail is their favourite at the moment (meant for bass) .. they all seem to be about the same size (about 7LB).
The weed seems to be thining out now, so we should be able to fish the closer marks, so fingers crossed the big bass should start to show from now on...

Excellent weather, flat calm (for most of the day), and some great sport with Smoothhounds to 11.5lb, Tope to 1lb !

As soon as the fishing died after slack tide Lee moved us on to the fish again, with 4 Bass including one for the barbecue.

Al the bike is pictured with one of his smoothies and wearing his best pants.
