Report on-board Hard Labour
Well the last couple of months have been fishing their socks off. Excellent numbers and sizes of smoothounds caught with multiple double figure fish caught each day. Biggest so far this season is a shade over 18lb, but there is always the chance of those elusive 20lb fish. In the last month or so we have done a couple of way offshore sortees with good results on the plaice. The Tope fishing hasnt really kicked off in ernest this season although we have had them to just over 33lb.

Now the Bass ban has been lifted, we have started to target the bass with great success. plenty of fish in the 2 to 8lb bracket, but by far the best specimen locally this season is a 14lb 2oz beauty caught by the skipper. Yes she swam off happily too, no point in killing breeding stock in our eyes.
We are now offering our evening trips as and when required at a reduced rate from full day charter.
We look forward to seeing our loyal customers on the boat soon and welcome any newcomers who have not fished with us before

Fishing Report by Phil White
on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)
6 Jul 2017 by Phil White
Report on-board Chinook 3
The last few days have been calm and sunny and this has allowed the charter boats to get offshore and enjoy some cracking sport.
View Boats Page
There has been a big influx of mackerel to all offshore areas; these super little fish are providing some great sport over the slack water when we would otherwise be waiting for the tide to turn.
There are a lot more smoothounds showing up, a lot of these fish are 7-8lb with a few better ones in certain areas, best baits are hermit and peeler but ragworm works well.
There have been some lovely bass caught this week with the best reported at 14lb, this fish was returned alive. We had fish up to 9lb on the Chinook with most boats seeing bass on a daily basis, best baits are squid for the bigger fish and worm baits for the smaller fish inshore.
The thornbacks are still in good numbers offshore with some big fish still around. We had our biggest thornie on Wednesday at 13lb; it was a big fish and would have been 16lb plus in the spring before it had spawned.
Inshore is quieter now that the thornbacks have moved offshore, there are still a few around in some areas. There are plenty of school bass in the Estuaries if you can get out of the weed which seems bad this year inshore.
Prospects are excellent, there is a lot of bait fish in the water and this will bring more fish into the Estuary.

Fishing Report by LESTER BAKER

Report on-board Seawatch1
June continued to see huge catches of Thornback ray in the Thames estuary area,I have fished this area commercially since 1980 and never seen such large amounts on the grounds.I can only assume that the lack of quota allocation for the few commercial fishing boats left in the area has had a very positive effect on the population, obviously most of the ones we catch are returned alive with just a handful kept for the table.

June has seen the number of summer species increase daily with Smoothhounds,Bass,a few Tub Gurnard and the first of the mackerel starting to show up,it has been great to target something other than Ray's and offer our anglers a change, still a few Ray's here and there some days but tailing off for this springs spawning but will return a bit further offshore in a few weeks time in smaller numbers as we seem to catch them throughout the year now.
Seawatch has as I hoped a few years ago become a very busy charter boat and June has seen Seawatch take on Mark Davey as a a second skipper to cover the days I am unable to fit in myself (old and tired ) Mark has been a keen angler all his life and run a charter boat before.Mark also spent several years as skipper of the local fisheries patrol boat and knowledge he gained from grab sampling the grounds has brought a new dimension to my experience and given answers to some of the theories I have formed over the years.I have posted a few photos from Marks last couple of trips some ,nice mixed fishing.Mark is a really friendly guy and happy to help and we will both endeavour to give you the best day out that we can.
Remember only a couple of days to go and you can actually take a bass for dinner ( Should make a few anglers happy!
All the best and mind how you go,Lester -

on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

Report on-board Chinook 3
The last fortnight has seen a steady influx of summer fish whilst the thornbacks have just started to move offshore.
View Boats Page
Offshore
There are more hounds starting to show with some cracking fish amongst them. Best of the fish on Friday was a beauty of 15lb caught on our boat by Paul Beach, there were several other fish around 10lb or so and we also lost a couple of good fish.
All these fish were caught on hermit crab, all released unharmed.
There are more bass showing in all areas with reports of fish up to 10lb, these fish will take most baits including squid, mackerel, crab and worm, there have been reports of shoaling fish which will take feathers jigged up and down when the water is clear.
There are plenty of thornbacks in all areas, these fish will start to move further offshore in the next few weeks.
There are a few small tope showing and hopefully when the mackerel turn up there will be some bigger ones as well.
Inshore
There are still stacks of thornbacks showing although there are signs they are starting to move offshore from some areas.
The piers are fishing well on the bigger tides for thornbacks, bass, dabs, whiting and odd sole with the top half of the tide always best.
There have been some big stingrays caught off the beaches with the best reported at around 47lb, these hard fighting rays like ragworm baits but will take squid and mackerel.
The Estuaries are fishing well for school bass although the weed is starting to be an issue, best off drifting for them with worm baits, there are still a few thornbacks and dabs coming out.
Prospects are excellent with more bigger hounds showing and there will soon be tope and mackerel as well.
