    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Sorry it's a little late, but here is the report from Sundays trip....!
We had a bit of a mix and match on the boat, as Troy Botterell usually has a full boat on his own, but for whatever reason 4 of his usual anglers couldn't make the trip on Sunday so troy asked me and Nic if we could get some more anglers, so we called a few of our regulars and they jumped at the chance, and as we have such nice people from all walks of life, we new they would get along just fine, and the banter would fly as usual, and everyone would join in with no offence taken..... although I took a fair bit myself this trip....Grrrrr,,!!! (well deserved though..tee he).
But on with the fishing..... we got of to a flying start with Troy hooking up within the first few minutes of the trip.
We decided to start off on Sunday where we finished the day before, as you might of seen we did well with the Pete Marron Family and friends, and it doesn't always pan out that one day will fish as good as the last, but with no big jump in the tides they were almost the same height, it was worth a try...
As I say Troy hooked up very quick into the trip and fish started to come to the boat from all directions, and although not as manic as the week before, there was a steady stream of fish coming all day...
At slack water most of the guys requested we set up the clay shooting.
Well these guys were the first to try the new Mk-2 clay trap which now is mounted on a sub-frame which oscillates left to right, and has a ram arm at the back to rise and fall, so if you think your good..... think again... this is the Godzilla of clay traps...lol but if you find it too difficult, we can just launch them off the stern port quarter, so a bit easier...
But after a hard fought shoot out, little Paul emerged the winner of the "VANISHING POINT-2 TOP GUN" trophy... well done mate good shooting, I think your score was 19 out of 25 clays?? then there was a shoot off between Tony and Paul Kitley they were both on 11 each, so I got 4 cartridges out enough for two shoots each, this time it was on the oscillating setting...!!! and whoever hit one/two would win the silver medal, and the third place would get the bronze... it turned out Tony hit one clay and missed one, and Paul Kitley sadly missed both clays. so we then had our final result.... outright winner... little Paul centre, second was Tony, and third place was Big Paul.... great shooting, and great fun, I think you all did well coz it aint easy to hit them bad boys from a boat...!! if you think it is... best you come and try and win the trophy ...!!!!
But even though one or two did not shoot, I could hear the net going out along the starboard side as fish were still being landed over slack water... a really good day with a great crowd of guys..
Well done everyone, look forward to next month.... be looking for the Hounds I think then, as one or two are just starting to show up now, peeler crab's and getting going now, and we will soon be harvesting Hermit crab's so lots to look forward to, and of course on the smaller tides we are going well off to hunt the elusive big Tope...!!! we now have quite a few trips lined up for these large predators just hope the Mackerel turn up this year....
(if we are not banned from landing them)
I must say that on Monday, it was like a different stretch of water.. a big jump it the height of the tide, and the fish were much harder to catch, it's as if someone threw a light switch, and they didn't want to know, we had to work very hard to land a dozen..!!! but the boys were pleased with there day, but when you consider we landed 12 fish in the first 2 hours of the trips just days before, you see how when you get a big jump in the tides it has a big affect on the fishing, they haven't gone anywhere, they just wont feed.... funny little creatures....
Ok........................... we find ourselves with a completely empty boat for this coming Sunday... No party.. so if there is a party of anglers who want to go.... just call ... 07768306646 and......... make my day.!! (I love Dirty Harry films) ... Tight lines..!!!

Fishing was fearsome once again today, we had NW 25 mph this morning, but once the tide got away the wind dropped to around 16 mph and we sat there flat as your hat, and the weather looks even better for tomorrow, so happy days...!!
We had a few beginners out today the best they had done to date was a couple of Mackerel on a day boat from Cornwall, but brother and sister Woody and Jodie Marron both hooked up on double figure Fish today and boated at least 20 fish between them and Mum Brenda Marron well she was just on fire one after the other, But Dad Pete Marron who used to organise the Blackwater Challenge kick of the proceedings on his first cast a nice double figure Thornback Ray toi 10 lbs, well done mate you still got it....lol lovely to see you all once again.
Well as I say the weather is looking good for tomorrow so doubt anyone will be cancelling, but there might be a space on our boat if any one is stuck.....!!! Tight lines..

Fishing is on fire at the moment, with many triple and quadruple hookup's so if you want to get in on the action
we do have some spaces available this coming Sunday April 17th so if you would like to join us then call 07768306646

The Clay shooting has become so popular that we have yesterday picked up the advanced Mk-2 clay trap...!!
this one has a longer arm to throw the clays further, and it is mounted on a sub-plate which oscillates left to right, and also up and down movement, so this will be more challenging for the more accomplished shooters..!! but for the beginner, we can just operate the trap as before, and flick the clays off the corner of the boat... should be even more awesome......

Well I agree with everyone, that this weekend you could not go wrong on the Thornback rays...!! there seems to be biblical amounts just about everywhere..
As with all things it wont last too long so make the best of it while you can, undoubtedly fresh Herring is by far the best bait to use, and it is relatively cheap... so it's a win win situation at the moment..
I don't know how many we had over the weekend, all I know is me and Nicola didn't stop running from the bow to the stern with the net, we didn't even get to do the clay shooting yesterday even thought the guys wanted to have ago....!! we just ran out of time....lol
I have an idea how many we caught but I would not publish the amounts but it was good fishing too say the least.... and only 17 minutes from our port of Bradwell...... mind you we were steaming at 27 knots so not as close as you might think..... Oww I can hear the cogs turning...lol
Here are a few photos of Sat/Sun.........Tight lines
Oh bye the way Brad... if you want to go on Thursday can you let me know please as I have not heard back from you ... cheers bud.

  • 04/2016 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Apr 2016 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

Its been another busy month here in the thames estuary. Fishing was hard at times earlier in the year due to the low water temperature but after a couple of weeks of warmer weather the fishing has turned a corner and fishing has picked up everywhere. There are good numbers of thorn-back rays showing inshore now and some good fish amongst them too. now they have arrived in force we shouldn’t loose many days to weather as we can find good fishing even in the shelter of our estuary. There are several whiting and dogfish showing with them. There is still the chance of an elusive cod (and they have been all to elusive) and I would be surprised if a few made a showing before summer arrives.
The other day we managed our first offshore trip in a while with some good results. There was a mix of lads aboard with some beginners and some experienced anglers amongst them. There was a bit of breeze to start with but it was quite manageable and good enough to get where we wanted. after a good steam we eventually got anchored and started fishing. We were hoping to see a spurdog or two but they don’t spend much time in our area so its hard to predict when they will appear. As it happens Rolf was bitten off on his first cast which may be frustrating but was a good sign that there may be some about. With the likely hood of catching these fish being slim around here its often hard to convince people to fish heavier snoods but it is usually worth it as the one that bites you off might be your only chance of the day. as it happens today there were several chances and it wasn’t long before our fish spurdog was aboard. In fact at times it was quite busy between them and dogfish and untangling and casting the hire rods out as well as making dodgy tea. By slack water we had a few spurs aboard. The biggest fell to nick at 14.6lbs then Rolf at 12.6lbs and another at 11.7lbs with a few more at 4-8lbs. this mark doesn’t usually produce much on the next tide but as we had seen a few we sat it out just in case. As the tide got going it became clear it wasn’t happening so we made a move to another mark. the tide was just getting under way here but the dogfish were already feeding hard. Stephen had the first notable fish which was a nice roker. After the rolf had a couple of spurdogs and then on the last cast he winkled out the first cod ive seen since the middle of January. A nice fish at 8lbs too and it finished the day off well. We had 11 spurs, a roker, a cod, a pouting and lots of dogfish.
I have a few spaces on offshore trips before the end of the month if you fancy facing the barrage of lesser spotted dogfish that are likely to be there. On the general trips for the next few weeks will be targeting thorn-backs with a chance of cod as well as the first of the smooth-hounds and bass that should show in the coming weeks. for more information, available dates and weekly updates please visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk or call 07956411528
