    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Sorry I have not been on here to do reports... but with the current weather patterns, this has played havoc with our fishing trips.
Many of our anglers have made the comment, "I thought your boat can go out in adverse conditions?? well the answer is it can..!! but the reason we don't go is, basically you wouldn't enjoy it... well one or two of you would, but most would not.
Vanishing Point-2 was built to withstand harsh weather conditions and has more than proven herself in the hostile waters of the Irish sea for 3 years, and worked in seas of up to 3 meters high, so there is no question about the vessel, or our ability to operate in these type of conditions, but it's one thing working in those conditions, and trying to fish at anchor in those conditions..!
But as always point out to my guys.... I have given you the best advice I can, but if after all that you still want to go, and I consider it is safe, then we will take you, then there is no room to say ...."this is crap" yep, and we told you it would be..! but I must say rarely has this happens...
OK guys, as of today, the clay shooting on Vanishing Point-2 will be officially ready to go, with all the relevant safety equipment in place, so one choice you do have if the fishing is not,, for what ever reason going to happen, and you guys want to do shooting then you have the option.
We are going to run days where you can just book and pay for half a days charter, say from 0900 to 1300 (4 hours) and just do clay shooting, at anchor, or steaming into the wind, which has a massive affect on the flight of the clays, or steaming down wind, again has a dramatic affect on the flight of the clays so defiantly not easy, but all are subject to sea conditions.
We have now picked up the awards to be given out at the end of the shooting session we have......The prized, fully engraved..
"Vanishing Point-2 Top Gun " rosewood shield for 1st Place.
Silver colour medal on a ribbon for 2nd place
Bronze colour medal on a ribbon for 3rd place
So prizes well worth competing for (pleas see photo below), great for company team building events, or just a great day with good friends.
OK guys, lets hope this weather soon calms down and the fish go on the feed again..!!! so until then... Tight Lines, & Hot Gun's.

    Report on-board Galloper

Im sorry its been so long since my last report on here but as ever ive been very busy with the boats as well as ashore so something had to give. I have kept my website and facebook page up to date though. Those of you that read my weekly reports will have a fair idea that its been hard work for the cod around here recently. This is down to many factors including bait fish distracting them, drop in water temp and lack of fish in the first place. Ive no doubt they will be back at some point in the near future though and the mild turn in the weather will help if it stays. Thankfully we have still been able to get out and find a few fish though with good numbers of thorn-back rays about until last week. Since the population of thorn-backs has increased locally we have regularly seen them 12 months of the year. January and February have also become a good time to catch some of the biggest females too with our biggest of the year coming out this time last year. The whiting and dogfish have been showing too although the cold snap has pushed life a bit further afield for the time being. If we get the tides and weather we will be heading offshore again. The weather put a stop to any offshore trips for over two months but we have managed two trips off there so far this year. There hasn’t always been lots of what we want off there but we did find a couple of decent fish in the last hour of the last trip to make the effort worth while. After the usual barrage of dogfish and whiting and a few rays we hadn’t seen anything special until Lawrence hooked a decent fish. it got us in a bit of a muddle around some other lines but we quickly untangled the and soon had it in the net. It was a lovely bass of 9.8lbs which wasn’t quite what we expected but very welcome. It was a great fish to see and made a change from the carp he usually fishes for. With the end of the day fast approaching I managed to hook into a decent fish myself which went really well having several good runs on light tackle. When it surfaced martin netted it for me. It was a nice spurdog which went 15.7lbs and a great addition to the days catch. We normally only see spurdogs on these offshore trips so it made the effort a little more worth while.
Over the coming weeks I would expect to see the cod come back on the feed and if it stays warm I would hope the thornbacks will be in numbers too. there will be the ever present dogfish and whiting too. if we get offshore who knows what will show up but I would bet lesser spotted dogfish will feature in high numbers as ever. Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

I know some people might not think shooting and fishing go hand in hand, but years ago we set up Clay pigeon shooting on "Vicky Emma" our old charter boat...
This was so popular, that now are back full time chartering, clients of our have been asking can we re-introduce this very popular sport.... and as we advertise VP-2 as a sport charter vessel, it seemed only right to try to get the right tickets to once again give the people what they want
so after a fairly long process, we finally got the go ahead yesterday to once again start Clay shooting on board Vanishing Point-2.
We took possession of the new clay trap yesterday, a fully remote controlled unit which can be operated from down in the cockpit, with the trap up on the massive wheelhouse roof, not like the old days when Nicola had to sit up on the roof launching the clays manually one at a time...!!
The clay shooting should be up and running in the next two weeks once the installation has been approved.. there will be really nice Trophies to be won on the day.... The Vanishing Point-2 Top Gun Trophy and medals for 2nd, and 3rd places... so yes guys ...THE CLAY SHOOTING IS BACK.!!

  • 01/2016 Fishing Report by LESTER BAKER on Seawatch1 (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Jan 2016 by LESTER BAKER

    Report on-board Seawatch1

The new year has started and finally the weather has allowed us to put in a few trips. The cod fishing has been a bit slow with only a handful of fish caught on most days but we have been lucky enough to enjoy some good sport with good numbers of Thornback Rays, the best on Seawatch so far at 19lbs 2ozs for regular Tony Holt.
The last few days have seen the temperatures drop to more normal levels for this time of year and it will be interesting to see how this affects the catches.
Weekend dates are booking fast so don't leave it too late or you may be disappointed,
    All the best Lester.

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well the weather was fair on Saturday and Sunday.

Fishing was still a bit difficult but we did manage a fair number of Rays, photo of just one caught yesterday.

Glad to say the biblical amounts of dog fish were no where to be seen, I think we only caught about 4 the whole weekend..!! just a few Codling came out, and most boat did very much the same..!

So to summarise... still tough out there, and room for improvement, but with the water temperature now down to 7 degrees it's heading in the right direction...!!!

    Tight lines everyone...!!!

January and a few more better frish showing with severall thornbacks but spottys have gone off for a while
odd spur dog showing aswell ,with the spring fishery still to come, so if the wether settles some reasonable fishing to be had
