Wed 03/07. So the poor spring now shows signs of finally ending so we thought we would take ourselves off and have a look at some wrecks on the small tides today, found over 20 cod today and a lot of really good size, had a great bunch of lads today and all very eager despite an early start,,, nice to see some wrecks holding some fish again, and we also mustn't forget the mackerel and a few wrasse that also put in an appearance. Flat calm start today which i havent seen for months! Pleasure to be out with a glassy top to the sea. Headed out to a six mile mark i havent been able to get to lately. was rewarded with a lovely 8lb smoothy first off by yours truly, then couple more for Paul, few doggies as well. Moved slightly south near a wreck as tide eased, unfortunately the wind was picking right up, ended up with a 5lb roker, few more dogs. Had to move as the boat started mis behaving so forced back inshore as has been the situation for months now getting absoulotely ridiculous this weather pattern. Couldnt even hold anchor as the wind was stronger than the tide with the anchor out the stern on a flood! early day for us today thanks to Paul, John and Shannon , sorry about the wait for those who didnt show but least we had a reasonable day. Had the place to ourselves today, mostly due to the 40mph winds! Lost previous day due to weather becoming ridiculous for this time of year everything is at least a month behind. Had to hide up inshore as strong tides today, within minutes fish coming aboard usual doggies and a lovely surprise for Carl with a sole normally a nocturnal fish nice to see. Moved onto a skate mark to end the flood resulting in just one around 5lb,was hoping to stay for the first run but the wind proved too much so moved again North to hide up. Plenty of dogs again, few flats, on the ebb , had to shift again to our final position the weather knocking us sidewards at anchor! Positioned ourselves in a little alley i found last year proved to pay off with some lovely smoothounds coming in some nice keepers around the 6lb mark average , usual dogs and odd flatty. Was a reasonable day for the conditions well done to the lads few firstimers on High Flyer,thanks for sticking it lads.

Bit of a choppy start start to the day from last nights blow, went off to a six mile bank i hadnt used for a while down to weather been too windy lately, started off well with doggies straight away. As tide weakened nice sizeable bass and doggie on same line would you believe! Ended up with 9.2 lb skate from the mark before moving to a bass mark which proved no good only few small dogs so ended up back inshore to finish our day. Another couple of skate for us of just over 8lb and 4lb along with more dogs and handfull of lovely dabs. No smoothies at all anywhere today maybe tides were too weak for them? Big thanks to Derek from DXB Water for organizing the trip and Keith,Rhichard and Rob all the way from Brentwood,appreciate you guys making the journey. Was a pleasant end to the day with calm water and we got a nice mixture of fish. See you guys next month, all the best. Jon.

Forcast today very strong SW winds no choice but to head North using the tides to our advantage ended up off Winterton. Arrived on slack waited for the flood the doggies came on as expected with nice little smoothy thinking we were in for a good day. Unfortunately the heavens opened ,the sky turned pink with lightening, as always turns the fish right off. Had a move further North , went through numerous downpours and with strong gusts all day made conditiions not great. Fair play to all today spirits kept up, had a great sport as tide slackened and i decided to dab bash changing hooks etc, getting the black lug out.Ended up keeping about 40 odd dabs pictured here, countless returned ,had fun all round. Big thanks to everyone from Mildenhall Base,Shannon for organizing the trip much appreciated, Breanna,Cierra,Ian,Joe,Justin,Andy,Matthew, and Steve ,hope you all enjoyed the day despite the weather well done to you all. Windy old North easterly again,getting fed up of the weather,this is mid June you know! Tried hiding up the Spoils for a bit of protection first fish small pup smoothies, as tide eased made our way North to skate ground.Ended up with 3 crackers pictured here , the fish not the ugly anglers! Plenty of dogs about keeping us busy too. Moved after the ebb got bit uncomfortable back South ending up with more dogs, one lovely size smoothound for Brian worth a photo, small smoothy pups again and few dabs. Thanks to local lads Mitch, Collin and Ron, Brian and son Jay, Steve Clarke and John Halliwell, was a most enjoyable day despite the wind, plenty of stick all round, never mind Collin the lads told me the skate tasted great you can always buy some at tescos if you cant catch your own!!!! Very windy again today fron the north east, suppossed to be mid june ,weather more like october. Headed north to a small hole on the inside which generally pays off. John pictured here picked up our only skate of the day ,nice fish of 9lb, the others getting few reasonable size smoothounds which are starting to make a show along with the spotties who today seemed a bit shy for some reason. Moved south into the Roads for a bit of shelter,more dogs and picked up about dozen nice dabs in total to finish the day off. Big thanks to all the lads who came from Northampton appreciate you making the journey and especially to Mick for organizing the trip. Also John first time on the Flyer and Dave Smith too. Another windy day today getting fed up of this especially now June! Kept inshore again having to make the best of it, tried different spot today headed South in deeper water looking for those skate in these weak tides, still not playing ball today. Plenty of dogs and few smoothies, ended up moving close inshore and dab bashing for our special 7 year old guest Kate pictured here with some of the catch. Ended up with over 40 today , few to take back to Essex! Big thanks to Carl and Brian, Chalky, and Rob and Susan and not forgetting a very well behaved and pleasure to have aboard little Kate. weather was a bit lumpy at times , thanks for putting up with it, look forward to seeing you again. Todays wrecking trip scuppered by the weather, strong northerlys again, decided to stay inshore and be safe.
Started in the Roads to hide up only to be greeted by commercial longliner and various other craft so headed north to a little hole i use . Paid off with over 50 mixed dogs and smoothies, coming aboard , no flatties today or skate really did expect them on the weak tides today. Big thanks to Andy for sorting out the trip, much appreciated, picture of Paul Alford ,todays top angler with some of his catch. Another great trip out with Jon on Sat 1st June. There was to much wind for the wrecks but stayed inshore, still had a great day over 50 doggies caught. The coffee and tea flowing all day with biscuits and choc bars as usual. If you have never been on High Flyer i can highly recommend it , Jon is very helpful and will always try and put you on the fish. Thanks again for a great day.
