Hello Gary and Daz, as promised we were back again to try our hand at deep sea fishing. This time based in the Mersey. We had the added entertainment of the power boat championships and a four plane aerial display team keeping us amused. As usual Gary and Daz had everything ready for us including baits and rigs, and with the historic skyline in view, set out to catch. Fishing was slow at first but began to pick up as Gary plumbed the depths of his experience to keep us going in difficult conditions. Hot tea and pies cooked up by the skipper kept coming and so did the fish as various Rays and dogfish were landed.

What A trip! non stop banter all day.
we left the marina at 9.30 am to head out in search of Cod. We headed out over the Bar and after sailing for 30 mins Ian(Captain Ahab) decided to make an offer to Neptune for a safe passage which was last nights curry, I turned round to ask if he was ok to see three or four phones filming him, i thought how cruel. The lads settled down for a while with Ian rushing to the side of the boat again, to give some more offerings to neptune. He later explained he was ok until the lads let him watch himself making the first offering on video. Any way back to the fishing. We tried a couple of marks which produced Pollack to 9lb and Cod to 6lb, Coalfish to 5.5lb pouting and mackerel.
A great day had by all.

We cant stop ourselves laughing with some of the jokes they were playing on each other.

    Gary Flint Skipper.

    Report on-board Lady Helen

Sailed from the marina at 06.00am with John Mac and the rest of the Mersey Pirates, had one of the calmest days this year (so far), fished out on the Hoyle Bank, with mixed results of dogs, huss, dabs, weavers, whiting, small codling several types of gurnard and loads of mackerel with a smatering of herring in amongst them, best rig was a small shrimp rig which out fished the others hands down for the mackies and herring. Moved inshore to try for the rays and smothies, couple of small rays and a single 7lb starry smothound to Phil (yet again), and returned to the marina at about 17.00pm

    Kingys Party

We left the marina at 5:45am to head offshore. We stopped for some mackeral on the way out and filled a bucket. We then proceded out 2 and a half hours, to the first mark. We immediately started to haul in Pollack to 8lb 8oz.
We then moved to another mark and had fish straight away after having a few hours on the second mark, we moved to a 3rd mark and were into fish from the first drop. On the way in we stopped for some more mackeral. We arrived back into the marina at 4:45pm. All in all a cracking day with a cracking group of lads. We look forward to welcoming Kingy and the gang back in the winter for some Mersey Cod fishing.

We left the marina at 6.30 to head offshore the wind was blowing a touch so we discussed with the lads that we would fish some marks inshore and see if the wind dropped as the forecast had predicted we arrived at the first mark just to catch mackerel,We tried 4 or 5 drifts but to no avail,We then edged a bit further out another 15 mile. i st drop we had fish but only to 6lb we fished this for a couple of hours and the headed out to another mark this produced pollack to 13lb 8 steve price was winning the pool, up until alan j hooked a 13lb 8 pollack and a 4lb pollack on the 2nd to last drift overall a really good day with loads of laughs and the odd grown over the back of the boat i should not of had that extra nite cap, was murmered from the back. Every body seemed happy with the day.

We left the Marina at 10.15am.with a request to catch fish other than mackerel to eat
So the decision was made to head out to one of the many wrecks out in Liverpool bay. we arrived at the 1st one some 25miles from the marina in about 1hr 45mins this was only a small wreck and didnt produce much, so we moved about 2 miles on to another wreck which only produced small stuff. We then moved again to another wreck only to catch small fish and then headed another few miles out to a bigger wreck. Which produced cod, mackerel, ling, herring, whiting, scad, Tub and Red gurnard, pollack and dogfish. Leaving the whole party with fish for the table, we decided to head back to the marina. We arrived back at liverpool at 7.30 pm and a good day was had by all. We are looking forward to welcoming them back aboard in August for another trip

Todays trip was arranged by Daniel Porter from Benchmark. With a request to go wrecking instead of general bottom fishing due to the weather conditions being idyllic. We left the marina and headed out for our first wreck which was approx 38miles from the marina, 20miles northwest of Liverpool Bar. We arrived at the wreck and immediatly everyone was into pollack and pouting, but of no size. After a few more drifts, we caught more pollack and a few whiting, and a decent 3lb 8oz Tub Gurnard. We then moved off and fish 4 more wrecks across the bay. With Pollack to 9lb, Cod to 4lb 7 oz. Red,Tub and Grey gurnard, Weevers, Doggies, Whiting, Scad, Mackeral,Pouting and Ling to 6lb 8oz. After a round trip of over 90miles we arrived back in Liverpool , with a group of sunburnt lads and everyone happy with a view booking us for Winter Cod fishing. The lads even left us a few Cod, Pollack and Ling for supper.
    Cheers
