Report on-board Duke IV
Duke IV strikes again with a 10lb 8oz Bass to Pat from Essex who being a conservation minded chap returned this beauty just after we took the pic! Again its well done Pat but fair play to the rest of his group with very little action until she came along. The Bass took Mackerel strip and swam away strongly on release. Also Smoothies and Mackerel and Whiting around along with the ever present Doggies!

Excellent fishing here at Ramsgate with good Thornback Ray and Smoothounds. The big Bass have started to show with a fine pair weighing 8lb 12oz to Sam aged 15 who was in line to win the pool for the biggest fish of the day, some suggested that £40 might not best be paid to such a young lad when Dad Nigel weighed in with a last minute Bass of 12lb 4oz. Nice job Nigel! Both fish caught on mackerel fillet on Ramsgate charterboat Duke IV. See more pics on www.fishingramsgate.com

First Class Boat. First Class Skipper. First Class Fishing. First Class Day Out!

Last Friday (July 23rd) was our first outing with Kurt, his deck-hand Charlie and
the Yellow Fin Boat. We were a party of five, including my Brother-in-Law from
Canada, who is a lake fisherman, and Chris, our next-door neighbour who has never
slung a hook in his life. If you book this boat (and you'd be a fool not to) take
time to arrive for bacon butties (or more) at the cafe and a visit to the 'Newhaven
Angler' for your bait and lures, where you get a great reception from both shops.
Other supplies are availbale from the convenience store on the same parade. It
really is a 'one-stop shop' for everything you need for a great day out.
Leaving shortly before 8, we had caught our fresh mackerel bait by 9:30 and were on
the way to our first mark. It wasn't long until, thanks to Kurt's expert knowledge
of the area, before we were 'in the fish'. One of the other Lad's, Tim, caught an
amazing 60lb, 7ft long Conger Eel which had us all leaping around the boat once it
was landed and photographed before release to breed another day. It wasn't long
before Rob, from our party, caught a very handsome 35lb Conger and Chris, our
newbie, opened his own sea-fishing account with a respectable Pollack of around 7lb.
I was thrilled to bits to hook my own personal Pollock of around 10lb.
Including a handful of very meaty Bream, our total catch gave us over 50lb of
table-ready fish after gutting and a very enjoyable BBQ was had by all and the WAGS
of the Hunter Gatherers. The party went on long into the small hours and most of the
talk was about booking the Yellow Fin for our next trip.
Don't bother looking for another boat if you're fishing off Newhaven. Kurt Lander
and the Yellow Fin is Numero Uno. It's the tops. End Of.

The weather Gods are smiling on us here at Ramsgate with calm seas and plenty of sunshine, this all makes the fishing so pleasant, the fish are playing ball too!

We are getting good catches of Thornback Ray from the many banks in our area, the Bass are shoaling and we are catching some quality Smoothounds.
Mackerel are also around but not in the numbers we would expect at this time of the year, this is the second year where they are relatively thin on the ground, could this be due to bad luck or possibly something more serious like overfishing in other areas?
I keep thinking of the thousands of tonnes being trawled in the north of Scotland! Could these Mackerel have been making their way south?
July and August are probably the best months of the year to try for large Bass using whole squid or large mackerel baits. Pick a large tide and sit in the rips around the North Foreland or up in the Thames Estuary, be patient and you may be rewarded with a double figure fish! Please bare in mind these fish will be females, with huge spawning potential so to return them is a great service to the future Bass stocks and great to see them swim off after a quick picture!
Malcolm Andersons crew from Corby landed 17 Thornbacks on Duke IV, releasing most of them unharmed, this followed a tough day on the wrecks so well done chaps, hope you enjoyed your trip to Ramsgate! -

I've done a couple of Bass charters on the banks, with good results. The mid channel marks are produce good bags of Cod and Pollock, the fish are in prime condition and mostly double figure fish. Its all looking very good,"long may it last"!!

A great evenings fishing with one of Newhavens finest skippers, Kurt. Species caught were mackeral, whiting, black bream, dabs and plaice which was a great return as we couldn't go too far due to lumpy sea conditions. But Kurt still managed (as always) to put us on the fish.
