    Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3

What can I say, The Ocean Warrior Crew came up trumps again!. My nephew, visiting from the States, wanted to try his hand at fishing the Channel. Dave put together an individual’s trip targeting Blonde Rays during the slack and Turbot once the tide started to trickle.

All Anglers managed to catch and the jovial atmosphere and helpfulness of the crew made for another memorable trip. This topped off with my personal best Turbot!

My nephew Zach had a “lifetime experience” his words not mine, and surely will not forget Dave and Jay’s hospitality. Jay had to think on his feet when Zach hooked into a 12lb undulate on 6lb Turbot gear. Coaxing Zach on how to “Pump and Wind” they soon had the fish boated. Zach found it a little slimy so the picture is of me holding his fish. After photos, Jay released it to fight another day.

The Unicorn is here!!! The Cod!!!
Finally after wishing and hoping we have finally caught a Unicorn on TopCat Charters!!! Actually we caught four of them! We had such a smooth, sunny day out at sea with over 500 Mackerel, Sand Eels, Pouting and Cod caught onboard.Fishing was never a dull moment, it was non-stop action from first drop to the last, it was such a shame we had to go home, but some of us were getting sunburned and we were running out of cans of Cola, the fish just kept coming.

    Report on-board Better Days

The hound fishing is picking up with bigger specimens being caught. There are plenty of bass but not in the sizes we’d be hoping for, most bellow the 3lb range but the occasional 6lb+ is coming up from ramsgate. Hopefully as the bass migrate through we should see some better bass in numbers and hopefully some early codling. As the summer is drawing to a end we are noticing a increase in whiting, mackerel, and a very steady stream of large amounts of fish. Hopefully some nice pictures will be uploaded soon.

Bookings are due to start being taken during the beginning of September as the fishing picks up. September can be one of the best months out of ramsgate with big smooth-hound and bass Fishing. Plenty of other species such as thornbacks,Whiting,Pouting,Mackerel,Dog fish and Cod can also be caught inshore.

Today our target was Bass, in our 8 guests, we had two get a bass on the first cast! It felt like it was going to be a good day .... then two undersized Bass appeared, which we kissed and tossed back to the ocean. Then the weather changed, it went from so calm to bumpy, then the skies went grey and then black, and we got a little wet. That didn't dampen our spirits, we carried on and the bad weather passed.

Today our party wanted to fish for skate, a bit of unusual request of recent, as we are always being asked for mackerel trips. We set off in slightly bumpy waters, anchored up and started a day of fishing. We caught the occasional DogFish as always, then a really decent Gurnard. Then there was Bass, Pouting and in-between all the other fish caught the ThorneBack Rays appeared!

We had the pleasure of having Skerry Bell's Skipper, Roger onboard TopCat Charters today. Roger and his party wanted something a bit different, target some Turbot, celebrate his Birthday, take a day off skippering and relaxing on TopCat Charters. We caught Turbot, Plaice, Bass, DogFish, Mackerel, SandEels and Pouting. The weather was against us, it was a bit bumpy but the sun was out and the fish was fighting.

Another fantastic day with a returning group. The lads are a laugh a minute and it turned up a surprise fish today. Our first scheduled Shark trip isn't until Monday 29th of July when we have a dedicated Thresher trip on, so when Kiwi "Mark Burton" landed a small Thresher today the boat was buzzing. We really didn't have a slow or slack period as we netted plenty of double figure Rays. We also had good smoothounds, and plenty of Strap Congers, and Bream and once again Caroline kept the fresh bait coming with Mackerel. Makes us wonder now as when Mark landed his Thresher, we also had 2 complete bite offs when the line was not that unsubstantial. Sam never gave up at all and was the last to land his targeted species... A double figure Undulate, and he pulled it out of the bag by netting two. Dogfish were conspicuous by their absence and we had no more than a dozen all day between all anglers. Thanks to Jay Young for organising another fantastic day.

A very hard day's fishing today to much ground swell to push off and anchor. Found a few hounds on the crab but the highlight of the day were the hot dogs, wish I had taken pics but they ate them to fast. Thanks boys and girls for fun day.
