The weather has definitely been a little bit kinder to us this month, we haven’t managed all of our trips but the ones we have, we have had to head up The Solent. As before this paid off on most of our trips.
Not only have we been busy with day trips, but the nights trips are also getting popular.
We have managed a few of these now, not all productive but still nice to get out there and try.
We produced a lot of whiting, pout and a few dogfish, with the smallest dogfish we have ever seen i think.
We had a run of nice weather last week, and we managed to find a few nice fish, with the biggest one around the 12lb mark. The whiting have been in in numbers, and we have also seen a bass or two and a few nice rays as well.
We are running a competition for this Cod season which runs until January 31st, that is, the biggest cod caught aboard Kelley’s Hero wins one free individuals spot on the boat and £100 voucher for Allens Marine.

Plenty of Skate out from Ramsgate with some good Whiting among them. A few Cod being caught although slow to arrive this year, perhaps due to the high water temperature. The Bass are still around. Herring the top bait for the Skate with lugworm for the bass.. The Herring should arrive soon with the main shoal of Cod and Codling and the Skate will stay throughout the winter. Jeffs group had plenty of fish today keeping the male Skate for the pot. Still some weekend dates available on Duke lV.

Cod to 20b are still on the wrecks on neap tides, Black bream are in good numbers on the rocks plaice fishing
is also very productive if you can get past the Mackerel which have made a massive return as they where scarce

Gemma showing the boys how to fish on Lady Ann in tricky conditions today. Gemma didnt give up till she had amazing bite and landed a cracking 6 lb bass which put up a good account for himself in 2 knots of tide. Well fished boys but only 1 winner today, thanks again Jez for brilliant day a laugh a minute, see you all again soon.

So the plaicing season has just about come to an end for us now, and it's time to start looking some of those winter cod. The plaice weren't as prolific as previous years but the fish that we were getting were in better condition and a lot of them were better sizes. The biggest place we had on board was a 3lb 12oz fish. During our place trips, we had a nice number of brill come up, the biggest being 4lb. Normally we only see around one or two a year on these but this year we had near on 20.
On the 17th September we headed out on our first evening trip for sole. It was hard work but we managed to find a few. With the biggest weighing in at 2lb 4oz. The rest were smaller. We had red mullet, bass, bream, silver eels, dogfish, pout and whiting as well that night. The fish didn't stop biting all night.
The first weekend that we started for cod, we definitely found them, we landed 4, up to 13lb. There wasn't a quiet spell all day and we ended up with conger eel, silver eel, pout, whiting, dogfish, bullhuss, smoothound and of course, cod. It sure is nice to see them this time of year and makes a nice change to all the rushing around done in previous months. Lets hope this is the start to a good cod season.
Monday evening saw another one of our evening trips for sole. Unfortunately we didn't see a sole, but we had lots of activity including cod whiting and pout.
Lots has been happening at Kelleys Hero, for those of you that don;t know, the boat will be getting upgraded to an 11m South catamaran. This will be able to fish 12 comfortably. It will then allow us to do Alderney runs and Weymouth runs next year. If anybody would like any any information on these trips please feel free to contact me.
So lets hope we manage to get out and find some more cod, and some more pb's.

Fishing starting to improve inshore with Cod around 10lb showing in the Solent along with the whiting which should improve in size in the coming weeks . Offshore still a bit hit & Miss but some nice fish turning up . on the next set of neap tides should see some improvement with Cod & conger putting in good appearance . Best baits normal for this time of year Black lug squid & cuttlefish

The fishing should be spectacular now off the coast of Ramsgate, all through the months of November, December, January and February. The cod fishing will be superb! The herring and sprat scholes have now moved offshore. So with the cod putting on extra weight feeding on these the fish should be much larger than last year. Averaging the 6-8lb bracket and definitely a chance of a large double. With this and the skate fishing on the goodwins where we have seen fish up to 15lb. And over 25 fish a trip. It really should be a bumper few months. Remember all my trips include equipment and some baits and I can supply lug worm onboard so no need to worry about baits on any trip. For the very first time this year we did not get all of the fish we were after, well we got some Bream but the Bass eluded us so I guess its fair to say it was 50% successful. We headed West, then North, anchored some, drifted a little, changed rigs several times, put in the miles and stayed out a little longer - it was tough! Anglers were great (particular thanks to Stuart for sharing the "bait of the day" which only he had, classy Stuart and much appreciated by all) and we ended up with some lovely deep plaice to go with the Bream so on balance a reasonable day.
Sunday 9th
Really needed a day off and hadn't planned on fishing but at 0900 received an SOS from a group that found their boat double booked and stranded in Brighton - what a horrible position to be in. 90 minutes later we are heading out to Sea and making plans on the hoof! Feathered some bait, headed West and had a great days fishing which included: Scad, Mackerel, Starry Smooth-hound, Bream, Dog fish (off course), Dabs, Plaice, Red Gurnard and our first inshore Cod of the year. Happy anglers with a box full of fish to take away and a ruined day salvaged at the last minute.
We are now prepping for serious Cod so its time to pack away the 12-20lb class and get the big guns out!!
